That sad moment you realize GTA:O is an MMORPG (like World of Warcraft

I am subbed to wow, I have been since 2005. GTA online is nothing like wow.

People amaze me when comparisons come up regarding video games. Video games need not compare to one another at all. Doing so is just a waste of time and effort. It just needs to boil down to if you like the game or not.

When people compare games they are trying to put across an insight they believe has to be there. And if they say it just the right why people will agree and they will get some sort of affirmation from it. The sad part is that peoples lively hoods are based on daily comparisons. Video games are no different then books, movies, TV, porn, fruit, pets, shoes ETC.

Ask yourself one question, Does it meet my needs of entertainment? And let it be. My opinion; I want to shoot a gun and drive fast at the moment. I can always go back to swinging a sword and flying a dragon when I have had my fill.

Pop quiz: What happens to nearly every MMO that has a lack luster end game?

Hint: It's not a good thing.

As it stands, GTA has no end game. I hope R* is not counting on this to be a standard MMO because they are missing extremely vital components that keep players playing this type of genere.

The highest lvl one can reach has been found to be 999. You will be able to get all of the weapons, cars, and houses you want under lvl 200. So what's the point to continue on this MMO journey? You have nothing to strive for except a higher rank, but who actually wants to be in grind mode all the way to lvl999?

So you can finally do heists(raids) now, great! But what do you get for it? More money. Well by then money will mean nothing to you. GTA:O has only been working off and on for about 3-4 days for most people, and already there are many players who don't care about money because they have everything.

So maybe free roam is the end game right? Maybe its just to have fun with all your stuff and cause mayhem with friends and randoms there. Nope, free roam was not designed for that. You'll end up with a bad rep within a week and a dunce cap on your head, playing with all the other people in the bad rep servers, who like you, have nothing to do but blow sh*t up.

So the end game will be the bad rep servers with dunce caps. Cool.

Good post tbh

You forgot about the mission tools we`ll be getting. I HOPE some of them will be heist related too.

I dno you definitely have point

it's very MMO-ish

it has pro's and cons if you ask me

overall I like the game and try not to focus too much on the MMO aspects I don't like (ridiculous grinding to get a pretty house and all that sh*t)

My biggest beef is the way they nerfed the skill-factor out of almost everything. There are like two dozen options to make the winner lose or losers win. What happened to'learn the world and get f*cking good?'

You can loosely compare WoW with almost any game and have it appear similar. Try Halo, or CoD. The only thing this guy has is the fact that both are open world. (I think WoW is open world? I've never played it)

Yea I see the similarities but the gta world is much more fun, however i hate stupid games where u have to rank up to get stuff forcing you to perform endless pointless tasks over and over to rank up. Its much less fun and more like work, boring, lol!

So what if games go the MP way now? MP is great, and adds a lot to replayability, imp i'd never pay more than $30-$35 for a SP-only game, not even GTA.

the idea of this being close to an MMORPG is the very reason i was so excited to play Online, and still love it despite my character being deleted twice...

Let me get this OP

Because it follows basic character progression, it is now an MMO RPG just like WoW....

Because they want you to have to put time in to be rewarded, it's considered an endless grind.....

Because you are a sh*tty player and can't get a decent rank you blame them for it......

Well, no offense but if you aren't ass at this game making money and RP are f*cking easy. I get well over 1k RP per mission with a group on low level missions. If I do that mission solo its over 1500. To level from 20-21 it took me 5-6 missions at a few minutes each. So long....

I think you're just bad and because of this you have to shift the blame (like all bads) onto something or someone else. It is nothing like the grind WoW is. It is hardly a grind, you have no clue what a grind is until you have played WoW. Players playing for years and still have months of grinding ahead of them to be somewhat viable in PvP or PvE.

Stop being a puss and keep running missions. It's not like they are some impossible game mode, we had 5 level 4s and one level 25 doing level 25 missions. Guess what? We only died maybe one time per mission. Get good, that's all I can say. Yes it takes time, what did you expect from a game they want to last a long time?

Oh wait, you're just some entitled gamer expecting everything to be handed to him. Anyways, if it's such a drag then quit. You're like an abused wife who can't leave her man... Lol

Until we see missions take more than 5 hours to complete, there is no comparison to raids lol. Again, you know nothing about raids if you think a raid is the same as a mission. More like the missions are quests.... But I could tell you don't know the subject of MMORPGs

You then say it's a rehash of WoW and you are obviously upset about it, then ask what the end game is. There is no end game lol, the end game is playing.....

Not to mention, WoW is simply a clone of a few MMOs. Not even original, it copied Ultima Online for one, which is where almost every MMO game gets is base from. Why? Because it works well, as players play more they get better stuff. Not everything gets given to you at the start. sh*t even in gta single player you don't. I don't see you starting a topic saying you HAVE to do a lot of missions in SP that feel the same just to get that new gun.

Yeah, cuz your a bitch and it's all you know how to do.

The game will require endless hours of grinding, which is incredibly stupid. Very sneaky of Rockstar, too.

The game will suck people in. People will pour endless amounts of money into the game as well. I can't believe Rockstar decided to allow the GTA series to basically turn into an MMORPG. Even GTA IV was more respectable.

How is this game any different than WoW?

1.) "Jobs" are basically "raids". You get exposure to more difficult jobs as you increase your level...

2.) Guns are equips. You can't buy certain guns until you get to a certain level. I'm surprised Rockstar didn't find a clever way to create "classes" so that only certain types of people could use certain types of weapons (causing you to want to create multiple characters and grind endlessly on them).

3.) The world will be expanded. It's no different than a WoW expansion. Different maps, same repetitive bs.

The list could go on and on... parties to do raids/jobs, experience points for levels, side jobs, free roam when not in a "private" raid/dungeon....

I enjoyed GTA when it was simply a creative free roam sandbox game. Rockstar promised us that GTAO would be something never seen before... it's a re-theming of WoW...

Instead of running around as elves and wizards we're running around as hitmen and thugs...

What's the end game to all of this? Even the "storyline" missions are repetitive. I've never played WoW and I promised myself I never would. But I see too much resemblance in GTAO and WoW. Not liking it at all.

It's not really like WoW. However, the way you say it. You may as well compare GTA Online to every f*cking MMORPG that has ever existed.

I think it's fantastic. If you ask me, robbing rival gangs of their coke supply is WAAAAAAAY more fun than "Kill 10 rats and return to me".

Also, I can just jack any "mount" I want and upgrade it to an "epic mount" in a nearby Pay'N'Spray at any time.

P.S. I HATE MMORPGS but love this.

I can just jack any "mount" I want and upgrade it to an "epic mount"

I agree with you, once you get everything unlocked game is going to get boring pretty quick, so I really dont see why people are in a rush with all this farming bs. What is the point of even reaching Rank 999?

There's a WoW ad right at the bottom of this page ironically...

I've played WoW for a long time and then stopped playing once GTA 5 was announced. GTA and WoW are honestly the only games I've really loved, so if GTA Online has elements of WoW's style then awesome. best of both worlds really...

Yes absolutely, the mission tools and content editor will be a saving grace for this game when everyone has more or less finished doing jobs/missions.

But as it stands, what we'll be getting first is deathmatch and race editors with a heist editor planned for the future. My only hope is that the heist content editor will come in time before the game becomes completely stale. Free roam could have helped the time go by faster, but I can't do anything there besides drive around and rob gas stations.

The biggest similarity to WoW is the apparent weight given to level and gear and the apparent irrelevance of actual driving and shooting skills.

Some games are great multiplayer games, some suck and are better as single player games. Its hard to make a "great" multiplayer game that appeals to high level gamers. 12 year old think farmville on facebook is a great multiplayer game though, lol! GTA is an awesome single player game with a good story, usually, 5 not so much. GTA multiplayer was always a crapfest at best. 5 looks to bring great improvements to GTA multiplayer, maybe, its pretty non impressive so far, but the heist stuff if it ever happens sounds like its gonna be pretty cool, so far its just morons driving around killing each other for 100$ a pop instead of playing missions together and ranking up and making 60K like they should be doing. Some of them will figure it out eventually if they ever wanna rank up and unlock more better car mods and weapons and make money, lol!

KingGladiator

You only have 3 kinds of multiplayer

Multiplayer matches: Team vs team or FFA (Think halo or BF3)

Co Op: You and a few friends go do the campaign or similar sections (Think Borderlands)

MMO: You, your friends, and a dozen other people, or maybe even hundreds go out to do objectives, and also have mutiplayer matches. (Think WoW and GTA:O)

Are you telling me you would rather have GTA:O just be nothing but deathmatches?

All these WoW kids want 'end-game' to grind.

Sorry but linear end-game bs is the opposite of sandbox. Only people who like an endgame focused MMO are those who started with WoW.
