That sad moment you realize GTA:O is an MMORPG (like World of Warcraft

Okay why are people complaining about grinding when it's been out for less than a week? Do you think you should be able to beat the game in this short amount of time? If they made it like that then everybody would buy everything they wanted and then complain about there being nothing to do.

I think the progress pacing is alright. But I do think the payouts of some activities should be balanced out. Like deathmatches are almost worthless when you subtract the cost of ammo, armor and deaths.

Its not a sad moment. Its a great moment. Ive always loved the idea of MMORPGS/MMOs but been disgusted by the idea of monthly subscriptions...

MMORPGs are fun. There is no need to pour any extra money into this one...yet.

nd this is an official GTA MMO. I'm pleased :)

The game will require endless hours of grinding, which is incredibly stupid. Very sneaky of Rockstar, too.

The game will suck people in. People will pour endless amounts of money into the game as well. I can't believe Rockstar decided to allow the GTA series to basically turn into an MMORPG. Even GTA IV was more respectable.

How is this game any different than WoW?

1.) "Jobs" are basically "raids". You get exposure to more difficult jobs as you increase your level...

2.) Guns are equips. You can't buy certain guns until you get to a certain level. I'm surprised Rockstar didn't find a clever way to create "classes" so that only certain types of people could use certain types of weapons (causing you to want to create multiple characters and grind endlessly on them).

3.) The world will be expanded. It's no different than a WoW expansion. Different maps, same repetitive bs.

The list could go on and on... parties to do raids/jobs, experience points for levels, side jobs, free roam when not in a "private" raid/dungeon....

I enjoyed GTA when it was simply a creative free roam sandbox game. Rockstar promised us that GTAO would be something never seen before... it's a re-theming of WoW...

Instead of running around as elves and wizards we're running around as hitmen and thugs...

What's the end game to all of this? Even the "storyline" missions are repetitive. I've never played WoW and I promised myself I never would. But I see too much resemblance in GTAO and WoW. Not liking it at all.

I said this last week and I yelled at by about 50 ppl. Why, b/c they think GTA is the GOD of all games when it borrowed EVERYTHING FROM WoW. Which I never played.

How do you know they borrowed everything for WoW if you never played it? This game is the farthest thing from WoW that i can think of. Think before you speak.

When the concept of MMORPG come into play. all you need to know is this: WoW, Everquest, Ultima Online. If played either of these old school MMO's you understand the premise. It's all fetch-quests. Look honestly, I would stop complaining about it, if there was some inclination of major/minor heists long before level 40.

In response to the original post.

I understand where you are coming from

Completely ... BUT I completely disagree with the sad moment :-0 this is the perfect mmorpg it's fast which no mmo I've played is ( lotro, STO, swtor). Grinding ??? So would grinding not be replaying the multiplayer on call of duty over and over and over ?? How about FIFA or pro evolution playing a match over and over ?? Is that not grinding :-/ well I'm guessing them games all did poor, I guess the millions of people that play these games stop buying them ...... Ill end on the fact that wow has more player than other game over the period of time it's been out even though I don't play it in my opinion if r* can make a game like WOW then congrats R*

Rockstar make an online game that has fantastic replay value and a good long game time, with hundreds of missions and side activities to complete and you will say we have to grind the levels..

Rockstar makes a closed online game with little to no features and hardly any ranking system and you'll complain the online is too easy.

ROCKSTAR cannot win!!! They make a game with a fantastic ranking system and long playing value, and you will always find a way to complain. I guess they can't win.

I dont know yet if you are just angry at something or plain ignorant and stupid.

If GTA5 where anything like WoW, it would be a hell of a game.

I am loving the MMORPG-like elements. I've been wanting a GTA like this for almost a decade.

In fact, I wish they had included classes. I'm playing a petty car thief/stick-up/wheelman/illegal racer type who I just don't see as a big kingpin or major heist guy, living in anything more than a sh*tty apartment. I just choose to play him that way now and accept only certain types of missions. Eventually I'll create other archetypes, too. I would like to see these kinds of specific play styles actually reflected in the mechanics.

WoW is a little bit too much to say GTA Online is similar to.

I would say Diablo 3, but with a couple advantages. You can play single player (GTA 5 has the advantage because it doesnt always require an internet connection), but you can play with other players online if you want to, like Diablo 3. It's not an MMO, but rather an RPG with the option to play online and save your progress with a server allowing you to access your character on a different console like at a friends house if you really wanted to. Plus Diablo 3 had a pretty bad launch aswell.

Well the gaming world has been waiting quite some time for a true mmorpg shooter!! Despite the similarities you mentioned GTA online is not quite an mmorpg! Look out for Tom Clancy's The Divison- probably going to be the first true mmorpg shooter!

Very true, The Division looks epic..... Can't wait.

Are you an idiot? WoW is literally all of that. Not only is it incredibly repetitive it also drains people of money and time. Also unless you like repetitive, unimaginative tasks, then yes, raids are a bad thing. Obviously I don't like WoW, or mmorpgs in general, otherwise why would I be complaining? Edited by Ronrollin9434

You are giving false criticism. What is the point of getting a nice car or apartment to find out everyone has it ?? I earned my sports car which I love spent loads of money on it and I've never come across a players car in free roam as nice or fast I'm happy with my reward for hard work I wouldn't be if everyone had it also comparing it to a game that is a succes been around 10 years and has more than 8 million members that's not well thought and FYI I don't play WOW I just look at the figures and facts if we can play a game better than WOW and for a 1 of payment then again I say congrats R* if you want to be heard by R* I suggest you write to them and bring up good reasons why you don't like it because if you send the original post they will probaly reply THANKYOU FOR YOUR COMPLIMENT !

No, calling this an MMORPG is such an insult to MMORPG's. This game has nowhere near the depth required for such.

You relate this game to a game you've never played and obviously have no clue about.

You are an idiot, this game is no where near close to an MMO.

Anyone who think this is like an MMO probably thinks CoD is as well.

Now, a quest is a job is a is raid is a heist. If you try hard enough, you can call every level in PacMan a quest or a job. You have a requirement to finish something, and when you have finished the requirement you're done with that particular part. It doesn't matter if you call it a raid or a heist or a job or a quest. Every single game is built on the concept of repetition. Which game doesn't have repetition? Break down any GTA game and you'll find: "grinding" jobs or just playing around in a sandbox environment. Heck, break down any game and you'll find that concept in one form or another.

Do X to get Y, use Y to get Z. Even if you have ten different ways to do X. If it wasn't experience points, you would need money and if it wasn't money it would be something else.

If you don't like the game, that sucks cause you were probably looking forward to enjoying it.

So let me get the facts. You have never played WoW but yet you compare GTAO to it? I don't know about you but when I compare two games, I exclusively compare games I have played myself because otherwise I don't know how I would be able to compare the 2 games.

GTAO is neither an MMO nor a MMORPG. It certainly has a few features which are similar to features in an MMORPG such as character progression. But seriously, if you have ever truly played a real MMO before, and not just for a few days, there is such a huge difference between MMO's and GTAO that it seems ridiculous to compare them.

It is clear and beyond any shadow of a doubt that a BMW is just a re-theming of a minivan... after all.. they both have 4 wheels.

I am utterly shocked that nobody spotted this unquestionable fact until now!

GTAO is nothing like WoW, believe me. WoW is way better than GTAO (in terms of end game etc) but thats with over years of polishing up. Give GTAO few years and it might just be the next big thing

I can see the similarities between GTAO and WoW, but they're not exactly the same.

GTAO is more about just making crews, and basically like a co-op GTA game. They limit you in terms of what weapons you can use and cars/vehicles you can access to keep it challenging.

The reason I say that GTAO is not an MMORPG is because there's no end game. It's all about the satisfaction of completing jobs and heists with your crew, friends, or even strangers.

The guns, cars, apartments are not really things to strive for considering we have them in single player. If Rockstar started adding things like classes, unique equips, grinding/training in free roam, then you'd have reason to be worried.

But to be fair, no one has to play WoW to know that it does have a terrible track record of draining people of their money, eating up all of their time, deterioration their health, and crushing their social life.

Saying "you've never even played WoW and you're assuming that it wastes time and money" is like me saying "you've never even tried heroin, yet you're assuming that it can ruin relationships, your health, and your finances" - you don't have to try it to know it.

But again, if Rockstar starts delving into the avenue of encouraging people to pay for virtual goods, unique ways to increase stats on equips and vehicles, character stats, a virtual economy, and so on... then that's when you have to start worrying.

Like you said, OP, other than being curious about the interiors of the safehouses, there is nothing to make you obsessive about leveling up and building up cash... there is no end game which is why I'm convinced GTAO isn't an MMORPG (at least not one like World of Warcraft).

Pop quiz: What happens to nearly every MMO that has a lack luster end game?

Hint: It's not a good thing.

As it stands, GTA has no end game. I hope R* is not counting on this to be a standard MMO because they are missing extremely vital components that keep players playing this type of genere.

The highest lvl one can reach has been found to be 999. You will be able to get all of the weapons, cars, and houses you want under lvl 200. So what's the point to continue on this MMO journey? You have nothing to strive for except a higher rank, but who actually wants to be in grind mode all the way to lvl999?

So you can finally do heists(raids) now, great! But what do you get for it? More money. Well by then money will mean nothing to you. GTA:O has only been working off and on for about 3-4 days for most people, and already there are many players who don't care about money because they have everything.

So maybe free roam is the end game right? Maybe its just to have fun with all your stuff and cause mayhem with friends and randoms there. Nope, free roam was not designed for that. You'll end up with a bad rep within a week and a dunce cap on your head, playing with all the other people in the bad rep servers, who like you, have nothing to do but blow sh*t up.

So the end game will be the bad rep servers with dunce caps. Cool.

Good post tbh
