rrocks
I am new here and I have spent a lot of time reading some of the topics. I finally decided to join after I beat the game 100%, this way I was sure to not spoil anything for myself....but I am like so many others here and I realize there is actually nothing to spoil, minus a few plot things in the main mission. Other than that..there is nothing really here. Can someone please explain to me all these things you people are doing in GTA V that make it so incredibly awesome? I mean, I really liked the game and it was fun doing the main story, but the world seems so empty to me. I keep seeing people reply with "Use your imagination" or "Do one of the 'many' things in game"...Um, wtf exactly are you guys referring to, honeslty, I don't know... Am I to 'role play', as in the sense of pen-and-paper dungeons and dragons...pretend that my car is unicorn and I am prancing through my kingdom....I mean honestly here, there is no real content once you beat the game, there are no real "characters" in the game or personality to any of the NPC's. In RDR I can load up my 100% game and still ride around doing loads of things and entering tons of places...some even new to me. Without pretending that chop is a terrorist and I have to outrun him or some other fairytale nonsense, is there anything in game that is fun at all? rrocks
In GTA IV, I found myself doing cage fights, playing Qubed, and just taking strolls around town to discover new things and watch the people freak out. In V, I expected there to be more "content" so I wouldn't have to just walk around listening to NPC's talk to amuse myself. I don't know, maybe I had my hopes up for this one, but I still think they rushed this one out avoiding the new consoles releasing. I hope some patches or DLC will bring some life into this huge world they have given us, but I fear now that all of their attention is focused on the disaster that became "GTA Online". I just thought there would be more umph to the game and I wouldn't be forced to come up with ways to entertain myself as much. If I can be honest here, I have done the holding out police thing a few times, but I always do it right before I am ready to put the game down...i.e. right before I put on another game because I am so utterly bored with GTA V. I have found that I drive back to my place as Franklin, save it and then go outside and start murdering randoms until the cops show up, then I run downstairs and hide behind the wall and take out cops until I die. Take Skyrim for instance, you can role play in that game and come up with loads of things to do because it's a roleplaying game built with those mechanics. It's the definition of free roaming and role playing, with GTA V...I just wanted to be entertained and yes you can say "have my hand held" because it's not a role playing game in that sense, it's a free roam action game. Just Cause 2 has loads less content but for whatever reason it's far more entertaining to me....I don't know, this game had a awesome SP story line (well the story was rather blah, but the heists were awesome) but other than that I find it to be dead in the city. Saying people pretend to be five by playing the game after the missions end is well. Retarded because the game was designed for that. AND if playing video games makes you like a 5 year old..Whining its not enough like Skyrim makes you even more childish. Stop being retarded and crying about something thats been apart of GTA for the longest..And had you played GTA before youd have known that. rrocks
Role playing in an action game filled with nothing more than violence is what I find retarded. About as retarded as you trying to troll my thread. Playing videos games can be fun, if the game is good and provides entertainment. But even you admitted on other posts that this game is all visuals and no gameplay. So clearly they have said -- here is a world, that you can do nothing in...go along now and entertain yourself. My argument here is that they never gave you any tools to "play" with. But whatever to each his own, you like to pretend to be trevor phillips and that's cool, no one is judging you for that man...seriously...no one. Nice edit to further your trolling. I don't want it to be like Skyrim lol, that was my point "bro". I wanted it to stand on it's own merits and provide enough content to keep people entertained without having to "pretend" to be having fun."Saying people pretend to be five by playing the game after the missions end is well. Retarded because the game was designed for that." --- This makes no sense what so ever, but after getting a few friends to help me decipher this sentence you tried to form, we have come to the conclusion that you are a complete f*cking idiot. Besides the whole idiot thing, I never said anyone was pretending to be five, I 'implied' that running around idiolizing Trevor Phillips on a message board while calling people names for no reason and trying to troll them is retarded. Just as retarded as running around pretending that you are having fun by controlling a character on screen that is literally doing nothing because there is nothing to do. The game was not "built for that" idiot, go re-watch the trailers a few more times (probably a dozen or so for someone of your hindered intellect) and you will see them advertising a game full of activities and content that promise to keep you entertained....not a dead world filled with lifeless NPC's and loads of buildings you can't even enter...the same buildings mind you, that you could enter on previous titles GTA:SA for instance (clucking bell, etc). madicea13
Well, I don't have 100% only and 71%, basically because I don't have a huge desire to get to 100% so for me there is still lots to do (random events, strangers & freak...) other than that I usually just f*ck around in the mountains and sniping cars. I love driving planes as well, parachuting etc. I've never done any of the side activities other than triathlon and that is still fun. I don't know, it's clearly different if you have 100%, I just go my own pace and f*ck around a lot, if I get a space part great (one time I was in a 5 star police chase as Trevor and while on a run away I ran into a space ship part... lol). I've never completed 100% in a GTA game because before I was a kid when I played GTA III, VC and SA so I never wanted to do stories and just focused on cop chases and driving around... With San Andreas I spent most of the time modding my cars and changing the appearance of CJ. With GTA 5 I just fell right into the spell of the story telling like it was a movie so whenever I played I only wanted to play the story. ...And I can't abandon Trevor, Franklin & Michael right now just to play online. They are great characters and I love playing them.

I don't feel robbed by Rockstar because they did a great job on that part of the game and the heists felt really thought out and professional. I did the same as you and just took my time. I didn't do much free roaming at first but I am doing more now, that's why I created this thread. I just wanted to see what other people were doing to have fun. I know there are some elements of the game that you are going to have to roleplay if you really want to have fun, but I am hoping that there are things out there that I haven't tried because honeslty there are far better games that offer better platforms for roleplaying...in my opinion. The one thing I haven't done much of in this game yet is modding...I think I might take some time out tomorrow and mod up a car and see how that works in GTA V. BlackNoise
I definitely see where you're coming from. Most of the activities R* put into the game don't do it for me. I still do the traditional GTA bullsh*t, but I was just hoping for more coming from R* and not just my imagination. I guess I just expect R* to look at the world they created and then think of all the cool/fun sh*t they can put into it. I know some people like them, but tennis, golf, & yoga don't really interest me. Stuff like surfing, skateboarding, wingsuit flying, and heist planning(free roam) sound much more interesting to me. Great game, but I wish R* would've created more activities. Just saying it's a free-roam game is a cop-out. Of course you can make up stuff to do, but you still can only work with what's there. The more there is, the more creative you can get with your personal play style.
John The Grudge
Once you've achieved 100% then all that's left to do in the single player is do the rest of the stunt jumps, Under bridges etc. The things that aren't required for 100%. There's tennis, golf, hunting, TV, cinema and darts. Beyond that there's a rich , detailed world to explore wiith a few little mysteries to look into such as the death of Jock Cranly's wife, a serial killer and of course the drawing at the top of mount chilliad. Add that to the multiplayer and I'd say GTA V comfortably justifies it's price tag. Edited October 7, 2013 by John The Grudge

The more there is, the more creative you can get with your personal play style. I agree with you 100% here. I wasn't looking for "scripted activities" as someone pointed out previously, but instead, enough "toys" to make justify loading up the game anymore. How cool would it have been to be able to rent or even buy and customize a surfboard and skateboard down at the pier, I think that would have been an awesome addition to the game. More heists goes without saying, they could have created say 5-10 interiors and then randomized a location for heists giving you an unlimited number of extra jobs to do in free roam. You are correct in saying that people take the easy way out and say "it's a free roam game". That may be true, but look at every other SUCCESSFUL free roam game out there right now, they all have loads and loads of content and the ones that don't are simply not successful. It a game with such a large world content is key, they have all these houses, business' and other locations that are just not utilized what so ever. It took me hours to find a place I could actually rob and once I robbed the place it just didn't feel worth the effort to hunt down another place to rob. Sure, I could have used a guide to hold my hand for me but that takes away from the exploration of the game. What I have realized in this game though is that exploration is not really rewarded with anything. During the collectible missions I encountered all these new and wonderful locations that were just sitting there, for no purpose other than to hide a note or spaceship part in. The skate park was highly detailed as well as the prison and yet they were just pointless additions to the game that serve no real purpose. Again, I don't think they have to add scripted events to make the game fun, but at least give us enough toys to play with in game to keep us entertained, because as it stands...as hard as I would have to use my imagination -- I could have saved $60 and just sat down and stared at a blank piece of notebook paper and pretended I was a space pirate going through the galaxy on some robin hood-esque mission to save my bretheren or some crap. Revoemag
I have to agree with the OP here. To much was put into online and not enough in single player. The missions online are mostly single players missions but only online gets to play them. Those same missions should be available offline. At least it would give us something to do that's a little scripted once the story mode is completed. Outside of a fight with the cops or a random citizen there's not many other opportunities to get into massive gun battles. Like last night I watched a YouTube vid of a guy playing solo online, doing an assassin style mission at a mansion full of guards. He was being attacked from inside by the guards and outside by the cops. The only way he figured out how to beat the mission was to parachute onto the roof and snipe from there. It was amazing to watch...but I was like, why don't I get to play missions like that. I payed for the game, the missions are single player, and simply cuz I can't connect online I'm not entitled to play. More needs to be added to single player or this game may end up just another game on the shelf... Its just a shame tho.... TXF
This is exactly the problem I've mentioned in a couple threads now. People expected more than they should have. It's GTA. There's not much NEW to it as far as 'extras'. Yeah new things are added here and there, but there's also things removed, and it's not really any more than 4, it's just different things than 4. Maybe a few little things here and there like the camera. People expected it to be some life changing game, then they're disappointed when it's just an upgraded GTA4 in a new location. What'd you expect? It's a sequel to an already good game series. It's not gonna change THAT much. And even then, if you played 4, then that's about how much to expect 5 to have. If you want something to do, there's tons of interesting things to at least see. Characters in back woods areas, and shacks. The 'freaks' and stuff. Take out your camera and go sight seeing. Half the fun of GTA is just going around and doing random things. Pick a thing, try to do it. Go on police chases. Attempt to take pictures of the police chase while it's happening. lol I dunno. Just..do things. Or wait until Online works a bit better and go on there. Edited October 7, 2013 by TXF

Just..do things. Or wait until Online works a bit better and go on there. Well, you have to look at the fact that Rockstar's trailer for this game hyped up all the things you could do in game. They failed to mention that those things are boring as sh*t and have replaced things people enjoyed in GTA IV. They didn't exactly tell us everything that you could do, but they made it sound more abundant than what it turned out to be. I think lots of people had the same expectations, just look at the sales for this game. How many of these people do you think actually would go out now and buy it again, knowing what they know now? The game is all hype and no content. I go into minecraft, terraria, 7 days to die, cube world, skyrim, x3, etc..knowing that I am going to have to use my imagination and role play to have any fun what so ever...in GTA:SA I never had to do this, in GTA IV I never had to do this, in RDR I never had to do this. Again, with more and more people discussing this issue and the "magic" fading very quickly for them, it's clear that Rockstar gave us have a games content and the other half is for online only, but they failed to advertise that FACT in their trailers, had they done so, I would have passed. They screwed the pooch on this one and I can assure you their next release won't do nearly as good, with people feeling burned from this one.
