Is this the real cause of our missing characters?

So after going through a rank 15, and a rank 27, I started thinking about what happened just before my characters erased, and I think I might have figured it out.

 

My first character, the rank 15, my game completely locked up, so I had to shut off my PS3 by the power button.

 

My second character, the rank 27, it was stuck on the loading screen for 35 minutes, I hit the PS Button, left game, came back, and now she's gone as well.

 

So my question to you is, have you lost a character without doing either of these two things? Turning off the console by the power button mid-game, or leaving mid-game/loading screen?

 

It's quite possible the people who still have their day 1 characters just have managed to avoid these two issues completely.

 

I don't know, just a thought. I think it's strange when I shut off my PS3 normally when nothing is frozen and I've left the game properly, it saves my characters, when I don't, my characters are gone. Every time I've done it so far.

Nah. I knew that stuff after #2 character. I used extreme caution and always turned it off as instructed etc. Still got eaten.

Rockstar know what the issue is. It is impossible that something of the sort to have not been noticed during internal QA.

Rockstar already said that the servers is getting overunned by amount of users, so the clouds just simply shut down cause it cant handle. It was posted somewhere on the forums.

my character appeared to be deleted as well but then i just shut off my console, prayed, and came back online the next day and it was back. i think you're meant to resume online using the character wheel instead of trying to load online through the loading screen or the menus.

I'm not sure I truly believe this, my first character from 2 days ago was lost, and when I made a new character in a different slot, after running the tutorial I restarted my PS3 to see if it would save her, and it did.

 

So if the cloud servers were actually down, why would it save one character and make my other one vanish?

can't say if i have or not the Cloud servers is down ever time i try to go online even if is to make a new character

Oh, for sure. I'm not understanding this push towards cloud servers, I have so much space on my PS3 that I don't even use, I would save my online profile to there in a heartbeat if they gave us that option.

I was not trolling. Rockstar likely had their own internal QA dept doing full-time testing as well as possible outsourcing through other companies, given the scale of the game. I highly doubt these issues were not present in earlier builds when doing stress testing.

I'm sure, every game has internal testing, but that doesn't get you very far in this day and age. Especially with this scale of game, they had all this time since they started creating the game, plus 2 weeks after the game launched to figure out these problems, and now we have characters that are guys with breasts, characters randomly vanishing, servers crashing, people floating in mid air, the "Retry" button possibly erasing your characters, tons of mission and robbery glitches and exploits, people being able to sell their cars unlimited times, this really seems like an unpolished game as far as the online aspect of it goes.

 

A group of what? 40-50 internal testers is nothing compared to millions of people all around the world. This is why when you hype a game up this much, you release a beta so the launch is smoother.

Lol, so what are you saying? They knew about the bug and because they're evil people and wanted people to loose characters.

 

But no seriously, millions of people weren't in their QA team, and this bug is going on because millions of people are trying to play the game.

Yea, when i logged out last night, i shut it down as suggested as always (really didnt want to lose my char). Went to log on not long ago via story, "Cloud servers down", so i just sat in story mode and would try every 10 or so mins, same message. Left it in story mode for the last 20 mins while i made some food, tried again. Char select screen, no chars there what so ever.

 

There goes my lvl 28, 300k appartment and 400k cash (not alot no, but frustrating none the less)

 

Now if you will excuse me, im going to dress a piglet up in people clothes just so i can punch the crap out of it...

It wasn't a question of technicality. All I was saying is if it saves one character for close to 2 days, but my other one is still vanished, that means the cloud servers were up for sure, and it's just my character that is gone.

except these arent all heavy load problems. This guy is right. There is no way they "accidentally missed" these issues. Time out issues are ALWAYS tested online, and disconnects too. You're going to tell me during the entire time they "beta" tested this game, nobody thought "I wonder what happens if the internet goes out"...? This isint even the cause of my issue, but how many people have gotten stuck in a loading screen? Thats from timing out. How many people have gotten "kicked from online"? Chances are, thats a disconnect.

 

Rockstar had to of known alot of these problems, and just assumed it wouldnt effect the majority.

 

If some people got f*cked, appearently that was okay to RS.
