Kifflom
You know what I love? Paying for the privilege of nag missions! You know, those super fun timed missions that the game randomly delivers to you, according to it's own time schedule, then forces you to complete or else, WOOPS, no rent for you! Those things are awesome, and I love them. I'm sure you do, too. I mean, Rockstar made a lot of good choices when it came to handling real estate in this game. From a game design perspective, it's sheer genius, and it really shows what a developer can do when that developer hunkers down and makes ignoring gameplay in favor of scripted movie-style sequences a priority! First, they made property prohibitvely expensive, so you'd only ever have the opportunity to buy some late in the game, if at all. Then they made the income you get from these businesses absolutely minsicule; so small, in fact, that you'd have to play for literally two or more game-years before you'd start to see a return on your initial investment. And to top it all off, they made that income quest-dependent (OH BOY!), so the only way you'd get that precious sh*t-trickle of cash from your sadisticly overpriced business venture is if you took time out of your busy day to do boring, menial side quests, like driving a puking dude 'round the city or towing a pickup truck from Point A to Point Ahhh f*ckit. Because if there's one thing I know about businesses IRL, it's that capital investors do all the sh*t jobs for minimum wage. (REALISM! The Procedural Content of Rockstar's brave new paradigm!) But one thing worried me about this whole setup: what if Rckstar let me do these tedious, low paying side missions on my own time? Why, that'd be no better than anarchy! So you can imagine how relived I was to buy a couple properties and discover that Rockstar helpfully decided to tell me exactly when and where these missions should be accomplished... usually at times when I'm off trying to explore a remote mountain top, or gearing up for the silly ol' final mission. Because really, when I pay a half million dollars to buy a shop, it's simply too much to ask that this be either a turnkey operation that provides a steady stream of no-hassle income, OR a sidemission fest that promises a good payout. Thanks Rockstar! You nobs.
rrocks
Love you rant. I had covered some of this in my topic about the "The Stockmarket and More", but you sir worded yours with far more elegance. I truly lol'ed like 3 times reading this and I couldn't agree with you more. I wish they would have held off a few more months and polished all this sh*t out before they released the game, but then again, they had to rush it out to beat the new console relases. TrevorPhilipsInc
Yup major bummer for me as well. Seems like another shortcut. Instead of giving us side missions that 'unlocked' the flow of income from said business like theyve done in the past. And effectively adding to the storyline...Somehow this is much more realistic. Cause at my job. When I cant accomplish my task. I call my boss and he comes and does it for me. No questions asked. No one fired.
