Note: Please do NOT use the “Retry” button after receiving the message “Rockstar Cloud Servers are unavailable” as this may result in loss of character data. If you are trying to access GTA Online and Rockstar Cloud Servers are unavailable, please exit to GTAV Story Mode and try entering GTA Online again through the Pause menu in Story Mode. We will be issuing a title update that will fix this issue as soon as possible.

I don't think that's what they meant, the erased characters are still somewhere on their servers according to Rockstar, I believe it meant it might erase them from there if you press Retry. Meaning you'll never get your character back.

i will absolutely flip the f*ck out if i lost my character by pushing that button or any other means. i lost an apartment once, but that wasn't a big deal... i was only set back by about 2 grand. this launch is so horrible flawed. i'm irate. i hope everyone else is, too. i've had about all the sh*t i can take from rockstar. i am as big of a GTA fan as you can imagine... but i don't think i could handle having to re-do everything i've done online so far.

This should've been "updated" literally an hour after the problem FIRST occured. How many millions of people have pressed the OBVIOUSLY HARMLESS retry button? There may be some truth in this as I just bought a comet, modded it and drove it for roughly an hour whilst doing missions, dropped back to single player before going back to multi and hammering the sh*t out of x to retry and now my comet has f*cked off without a trace.
