Some thoughts on GTA Online...

Firstly the game (while it is online) is incredibly fun and has huge potential, I've managed to attain a level 41 character with the $400,000 apartment and several cars, which I've probably lost forever earlier today after having to dashboard due to the game freezing, not too pissed off about it, as others have no doubt lost more progress, however starting a new character is worrying as that may get deleted in the future as well, so playing online at the moment is a no-go for me.

 

Now the server downtime, it was to be expected with the huge influx of players, however I though it would be a day or two at most, going into the 6th day of instability is really worrying considering the size of Rockstar and how long they've had to plan and develop for this project, even taking into consideration the fact that it's their biggest project by far to date, 5 years is a long time to prepare.

 

Maybe that's why online was released 2 weeks later, may be down to them not being ready to release online, if that's the case then it surely it would be more sensible to hold the release until they were definitely ready. Hindsight is truly a curse. However unfortunately looking at the threads on this forum, the server instability isn't the biggest issue at hand; the character deletion.

 

This is an absolute mess. And I'm not technically literate by no means, but I really believe they've made a MASSIVE mistake using Cloud, especially for a project like this. Correct me if I'm wrong but giving us the ability to save our characters on our hard drive would completely eradicate this issue, even with Cloud saving on hard drive would give us a backup and we wouldn't have 90% of the threads on this forum complaining. Also it'd give Rockstar a bit more leeway to deal with the servers, as now they've got so many problems to deal with, it could be a very long time until GTA Online is at a competent level.

 

Then you get to some of the minor issues with the game, or non issues depending on your viewpoint; violent duct. A controversial issue at the minute, I'm gonna be honest and say I did grind this mission quite a lot, even after the pathetic update where they removed the replay button, even though you can press RT which restarts the game quicker than pressing replay. I really don't see this as an issue although I may be biased as I did grind it, there isn't much detriment to other people from grinding this mission, and it's not an exploit unlike the LS Customs/shop robberies glitch.

 

At least Rockstar had the foresight to remove the ability to buy in game currency, that would have been really problematic.

 

 

Overall though the game whilst able to play is definitely very enjoyable, and when Rockstar finally sort these issues out, the online will definitely be one of the best games, the potential is there and they aren't far off, single player was incredible, and I do like the bad sport system, I'm gonna get gunned down for this, but I spent 2 days in a bad sport lobby for blowing up players cars, and the inability to play with friends and that f*ckING dunce hat will definitely deter me from doing it again, it's harsh, it's effective and it works. Although it's silly that you can kill somebody 20 times over with no punishment, but you can't blow their car up.

If the game would just save my character (not too much to ask R*!) I could get on with my anti-Catchup mechanic agenda. However, I have no character to put in a car anymore again, so that will wait.

In future i simply wont give R* any money , Second hand games, 1 year + after release,

 

no joke, my gran could wip up GTA V in 5 years, with less than half the glitches, and im been serious, she really could.

i feel like xbox 360 and PS3 are just betas for Next Gen / And/Or PC

no joke, my gran could wip up GTA V in 5 years, with less than half the glitches, and im been serious, she really could.

 

Yeah it really is a shame, I've not been disappointed with any of their releases up until now. It's sad how most of the problems are really preventable but they seem set in their ways.
