General thoughts on GTAOnline?

I'm sure there's threads discussing what people like and don't like about GTA Online. What I'm curious about is, if online was more, or less than what you expected when you first heard about it. And why it's better or worse than what you expected.

 

See, I don't have the game yet, but even so, I've seen plenty of videos of online to know a couple things I don't like already.

 

In my opinion, based on what I've seen and heard, GTAO is no where near what I thought it would be. For a couple reasons. The character customization isn't good..at all. I figured it'd at least give you SOME customization, like character weight, more beards and hair, where facial features are located, etc.

 

And then there's the fact that the game literally starts you out with free stuff. This is pretty much how the first part of online is:

 

-make character-

-load game-

-you get a free handgun in the first cutscene-

-you also start with $8000-

-you do a mission or two-

-you find out they give you a free shotgun at Amunation-

-You're told you can get a car now so steal whatever one you want-

-you're able to find a really good car to use as your own right away-

-you get free car insurance and a gps tracker for it instantly-


Now see the problem? You get all that without doing ANYTHING really. I was expecting to have to earn everything in the game myself. Not be able to actually "own" a car until I get a lot of money, and it being awesome to finally own a car after so long of just stealing them(and not being able to customize stolen cars). Having to actually earn ALL of my money. Not starting off with free guns. I assumed it would throw you in with nothing, and you'd have to mug people for money, to buy your first gun, to rob your first stores for more money, to buy some more ammo, to rob more stores, to maybe eventually being able to do some missions, and finally getting some money to buy your first crappy apartment. From then on, you'd be playing to upgrade things. Better guns, buy a crappy car, buy insurance, better apartment/house, etc.

On top of that, given how much you die from random people shooting you for no reason, you end up losing all your money that you actually DO earn, because of hospital bills.

I'm sure someone'll say something to me about not judging it until I get the game. But that's why I'm posting here right now. I'm waiting to get the game(I'm getting it in a month or two) and I need something to keep me busy. I'm like, obsessed with gta5 at the moment. lol
