Add Cricket to GTA Online

I don't see why not? We don't shoot cops in the head either but we do that in GTA. It's just a fantasy game and it would be fun so we shouldn't let realism get in the way. Tennis isn't exactly popular either

Not that I condone this but, Theres more people who shoot cops in the head a day in America than there are people that play cricket in America.

 

This is how I think all americans feel about cricket

 

I know but this game isn't made for Americans even though it is set there. I mean why not just ban everyone from outside the US from playing it if its supposed to be like a real America.... Just because the game is set in LA doesn't mean we have to exclude every other world culture from the development of the game... And as I said, i'll wager more people in LA Play cricket than run triathalons, just dip into the indian and Pakistani expat community and it's huge even in the united states trust me.

 

I wouldn't know if people in LA play more cricket then run triathlons but I would bet on triathlons...never seen a televised game of cricket but have see triathlons on the tv guide all the time. Mate its not popular in the US with white americans but Indians, Pakistanis, Brits, and people from the Caribbean Islands all play it every weekend in every major city in the country you just need to open your eyes. America isn't all about white americans anymore.

This is how i'm imagining the drinks break will be in GTA Online, or if play is stopped for rain - You go into a smoky locker room and can drink beer, play poker, smoke, and generally have a rant.. And don't forget the onion bhajjis

 

Epic. X to smoke, square to drink, circle to enter the Indian food and dip selection screen as detailed before. Having to balance stamina regeration, bravado and spiciness all while maintaining banter with your team mates. Could be a great minigame, I'd actually be looking forward to the rain.

 

Maybe the winning team get to unlock Cuban cigars as a reward but of course, smoking them near the police would lead to an instant wanted level due to the trade embargo. I'd also like to see more unlocks for more varied mustaches as well as the cloths and kit we talked about earlier.

 

OMG the facial hair, such a great thing we forgot to already discuss, El Tel. Can you imagine getting the Merv hughes facial hair ? I think i'd wear a baggy green cap even if I wasn't playing for Australia and I definitely want the South African test sweater for driving around Los Santos.

 

You bring up an interesting point with the Cuban cigars. As a cricket player who lives in America I know it is hard to buy gear and kit, usually you need to call up some Pakistani guy who is selling bats out of his garage and it's not professional at all - There are no sporting stores that sell cricket gear .

 

So to buy your bat and clothes you could take a trip over to the same block where Lester lives and meet up w/ your friend Mahmoud in his garage and you can go through whatever he has and decide what to buy... Inventory varies on whatever the last shipping crate from Pakistan contained.

 

Also you can smoke Cubans but if the fans see you doing it you take a minor reputation hit especially if you get run out on a slow run later in the game, not to mention the police attention it will draw because of the trade embargo you mentioned. It's risky but it gives you a +10 to focus because your head is swimming .

 

I'm liking the idea of having to buy your gear from the Pakistanis, it's safe to say that wherever there are Pakistanis, there is Cricket gear. Maybe once you've won a certain amount of mathces, you could get free cab rides due to the Pakistani taxi drivers and they could keep asking to take your photo.

 

Maybe the Cubans could be included to the bravado mechaninic during breaks, if you can finish the whole cigar during the break you can fill the guage more, but if you smoke too fast then you end up throwing up and loosing focus during the rest of the match and suffer from negative chants from the other teams fans in the crowd.

Rightly so too, it would be devestating to loose a 'stash like that. Perhaps you could use the mechanic to make a fraudulent claim if you need the cash, but of course you would suffer a negative impact on your stats while playing due to the taunts from the crowd as well as being less successful with the ladies.

I live in St. Louis which might not be the biggest but it is a Major City and I have never seen a game of cricket break out in a park EVER.....not once in my whole life, Nor do they sell cricket paraphernalia in any of the sporting goods stores. I'm not trying to down talk or talk sh*t on your sport of choice, I just don't think it would make sence in GTA which is based on an American city and based on American things. Now I leave this topic with a big "GO CARDINALS" that's my town's MLB team in the playoffs now for the eleventh time in 14 years.

I'm still trying to work out a mechanic for fielding other than "Move to this position to catch" we need to add something that can account for match fixing and dropped catches as well, maybe you need to use the joysticks to keep something centered or press a button at the exact right time or something. Will give it more thought and post when I figure something out.

Well the left stick would control position, maybe the right stick could control the position of the hands? Maybe you could use the triggers (one for each hand, allowing for one handed catches and dives) to actually catch the ball and this could require correct timing. I'd also like to be able to throw the ball in the air in celebration, push right stick up, rotate 180 and push back up while releasing the triggers and yelling into the mic.

 

I'd also like to see the ability to bowl no-balls in spot fixing situations. This could be a great way to earn extra cash but runs the risk of you being labled as a bad sport if done too often.

Dude...every f*cking gas station around here and I mean EVERY ONE is owned by some sort of arab or indian...we have a huge Italian community centered around "The Hill" which is where all my favorite resturaunts are. And also we have many communities of other cultures in my city. foreigners don't go to middle America? I like the idea for catching - One handed dives are useful but if mistimed you risk jamming a finger or getting injured by it. We definitely must add a way to throw the ball all the way up into the air as well.

 

As for the spot fixing , my preliminary idea is this - At the beginning of the match your Pakistani friend sends you a text message saying he wants a no ball on a specific ball in a specific over, IE 5.2, and it is then your job to make sure you lie to your captain and get him to bowl you in that over. Once he does, you then must correctly deliver the no ball on ball 2 - And you cant check your cell during a match, you need to remember the exact moment from before the game.

 

I think this would pay off huge like 15-20k if you pull it off but you risk the bad sport rating and possibly getting banned if you do it too many times or get caught agreeing to do it on tape

Thanks for chiming in mate we'll need to figure something out for if people refuse to walk or leave the field for bad light or tea, maybe we can give the Umpires the taser from the GTAV mission to deal with these people

Actually, not a bad idea. This could provide a way of regenerating stamina without the risk of overdoing it on the spiciness. Of course, you wouldn't be able to fill your bravado gauge but sometimes playing it safe is a good idea.
