Add Cricket to GTA Online

When I read this title I thought he was asking for the sound a cricket makes, because the online is so empty.

Could you imagine bowling a Shane Warne flipper in gta online while all your mates go "ohhhhh yes" on the microphone

 

I can see myself pressing X to clap already.

 

You can also press square to yell out "Bowling!!!!"" followed by an X for clap.

 

Triangle will yell out "RUN!" if you want to play sleazy style by confusing opposing batsmen with fake calls. Circle will yell "STAY STAY STAY" and if you hold down R2 when you press triangle you can shout out "ONE FOR THE THROW"

 

Another mechanic i'm trying to work out right now is if you hit a ball too far on a six and it gets lost in the woods, both captains and the match official need to pick a new ball that is about as many overs old as the one that was lost, i'm thinking a screen with 5 different balls on it and you vote just like you would in the mission selection screen, the ball that gets a majority vote is the new ball even if the seam is roughed or the lacquer is cracked. Havent fleshed that out all the way yet but I will post as soon as I do

 

Talking of balls, we need to get Rockstar to add white balls for some epic, floodlit night games.

Brilliant, I see no reason why we couldn't pick white or red ball at the beginning when you pick the time of day (morning, noon, night and weather) because surely a white ball will get you a few more hours into the night than a red test ball. We could even consider giving the umpires in game a light meter so they can act like Aleem Dar and determine if play is dangerous , giving a little bit more leeway when its a spin bowler but for a fast bowler we really need to consider safety in the game when lights go.

 

I prefer a red cherry but at night definitely a white ball and we could possibly even make an unlock where you can use a taped up tennis ball as a trick.

 

I think if we modified character generation so you could specify what position in cricket your grandfather/mother played in it would be a great idea, IE if my dad was a great bowler you know i'd start with like 20/100 rather than 0/100 because you know he and I would be tossing it around in the back yard.

m8 yoga isn't exactly exciting either and it made the cut, and if you survey world citizens 8/10 find cricket to be a thrilling game it's only Americans, and a few Brits who don't go outside that don't appreciate it

Perfect, even the people who don't like it , I cant see them giving anything less than a Billy Bowden crumb sweeping 4 runs out of 5.

Absolutely brilliant again El Tel. I'm thinking the same stick mechanic you have to use to hold a yoga pose to determine the signal you give to make the game interactive and challenging for the player umpires too.

 

IE: Both sticks held up for a six, right stick down to tap your knee for a leg bye, left stick left and right stick right for four runs, et cetera... We are really onto something here and we haven't even deviated from the systems rockstar already uses in the game. This is perfect.

At least give an idea that would make sense like Basketball, Baseball, pool or bowling (Which should all be included btw).

I'm loving the idea of using the Yoga mechanic. Perhaps the umpires stick control determins how loud the appeal has to be. So if he tried to refuse the appeal for a nick, but the cries of HOWZAT are too loud and his stick control isn't great, then it is called out by defult. If he's really good with his controler, he could shake his head even for a blatent LBW.

Do you know how long cricket games are?

I wouldn't come on GTA to play a cricket marathon, I'd get bored.

If I was to play a sport on GTA it would be as a lil mess around for like 5/10 mins.

With cricket it's not that simple.

Not hating or anything, my lil brother plays cricket (I live in UK).

I'm just saying it just wouldn't work well in a GTA game.

If you want a cricket game buy The Ashes or something.

R* have more important things to work on rather than developing a whole new activity. They need to concentrate on fixing all the bugs.

Amigo Mane you claim a triathalon is more popular and American than cricket, I don't think that is accurate. I don't know any Americans that run triathalons, i'm sure a few of them do but it's not exactly a quintessential sport as you make it out to be.

 

 

Also tennis matches take hours IRL but you can play the same thing in GTA in 45 minutes. I'm not talking about playing a full test in GTAO although you should have the option if you want to. 20 overs per side with an option to reduce to 10 if you want and it shouldn't take any more than 2 hours per batting side.. So if you and your mates sit down at 18:00 with a beer right after dinner you should be calling stumps by bedtime. It beats spending the night shooting people and losing medical expenses in freemode.

 

 

Also @El Tel I love that idea about connecting it with the appeals. One thing I think we need to work out is that if you yell howzat too much and unneccesarily appeal you can be sanctioned and lose your right to appeal any further for the rest of the match - Most cricket players are mature but we don't want to get some kid in the game that yells HOWZAT on every ball e ven if it's pitching a meter off the off stump.

 

 

And again @Amigo Mane i'm pretty sure your brother would like this idea will you ask him what he thinks and report in? Always need more opinions from real players.

 

 

I'm also thinking out a replay mode for LBWs , but only AFTER a decision is given so players can then watch a hawkeye like thing and determine where the ball was pitching, you can then accuse the umpire of bias if you want but only at your own risk.

The running & cycling aspect of the triathlons is popular with the rich upper class who try to be healthy to be better than everyone else lol. That's why R* included it.

 

I don't even need to ask my brother bc I know he would say yes like any-one else who plays cricket or cricket games would.

 

It's like asking me if I would like to see Basketball included (Which I would).

 

But something like Basketball would make more sense bc they can do more with it in terms of creating a stereotypical basketball player character to introduce you to the activity etc. & it's huge in America.

I don't want to be harsh but I don't think this is right. I currently live in the US and I see people playing cricket all the time in local parks but I've never seen a Triathalon in my life.

People probably practice fencing, field hockey and rugby in the Los Angeles area too. That doesn't mean it would be a good idea to include them in a parody of that city. They want to recreate the feel of Los Angeles, and cricket is simply not a prominent sport there. Sports like basketball and baseball should definately have a priority over cricket.

OMG the facial hair, such a great thing we forgot to already discuss, El Tel. Can you imagine getting the Merv hughes facial hair ? I think i'd wear a baggy green cap even if I wasn't playing for Australia and I definitely want the South African test sweater for driving around Los Santos.

 

You bring up an interesting point with the Cuban cigars. As a cricket player who lives in America I know it is hard to buy gear and kit, usually you need to call up some Pakistani guy who is selling bats out of his garage and it's not professional at all - There are no sporting stores that sell cricket gear .

 

So to buy your bat and clothes you could take a trip over to the same block where Lester lives and meet up w/ your friend Mahmoud in his garage and you can go through whatever he has and decide what to buy... Inventory varies on whatever the last shipping crate from Pakistan contained.

 

Also you can smoke Cubans but if the fans see you doing it you take a minor reputation hit especially if you get run out on a slow run later in the game, not to mention the police attention it will draw because of the trade embargo you mentioned. It's risky but it gives you a +10 to focus because your head is swimming .

I wouldn't know if people in LA play more cricket then run triathlons but I would bet on triathlons...never seen a televised game of cricket but have see triathlons on the tv guide all the time. LOL @ " and it's huge even in the united states trust me" well I live in the united states and trust me when I say that cricket is about as huge here as bobsledding is in Jamaica...sure there was that one team but that doesn't make it huge
