Sounds sh*t

You should like a real Rhodes scholar with that attitude. Please refrain from abusive, insulting , non contributory comments. Didn't you get a temp ban for similar behavior a few months back?

Had loads of bans for loads of reasons, ain't no thang, cricket is a sh*tty idea though. Just because you can think of something, just because it exists in RL, doesn't mean it should be in the game.

You can't put stupid ideas out there and not expect flak.

EDIT: Glad you're keeping tabs on me though.

Have you actually played GTA online? If you lose connection getting back into the same activity is an impossibility while the activity is running. If you manage to get back onto the same server your crew was on and then join them on the job you are only there as a spectator and you can't even communicate over voice chat with any players still in the activity.

That isn't correct. If you join a friend while they are doing a survival mission you might need to spectate at the start but as soon as they start a new wave you will properly join and be able to participate. I imagine a player coming back into a cricket game will be have to spectate until the next wicket or drinks break before being able to properly join the game again.

Precisely this. At a minimum, the start of the next over. And as we fleshed out previously in this thread , you will be able to engage in banter and sledge as a spectator so it really wont be too boring or much of a problem.

Spectators can change views and view from behind the batsman or bowler and make sarcastic comments with each delivery.

Guys, to keep things as on topic as possible, i'd suggest we just ignore the obvious trolls and flame baiters. They will eventually lose interest if we stop biting onto their non contributory posts and insults.

Lets all do our best to keep it (Agree or disagree) about the cricket in GTAO and what systems will, and will not work.

One thing I've been wondering about is the mechanic for bowling, I remember the old Brian Lara game on the PS1 where there was a small (or large for poor bowlers) circle indicator that you had to quickly move into the position where you wanted the ball to bounce. I quite liked that at the time. Of course we can't just copy it but I think there needs to be some way of aiming your ball, if it is just a case of swinging an analouge stick with no precise aiming, I think it might be a little too simplistic. I've been thinking about it for a while now but I haven't come up with anything solid. Any thoughts?

You're right.

The more I think about I'm thinking the connectivity issues the game has will have less of an effect than playing most of the other game modes online. It is very frustrating to be leading a race or almost finish a mission only for your connection to drop out. I can only imagine how annoyed I would be if I was on the verge of winning a 6 set tennis match and my connection dropped. With cricket being a team game you will have the option to join back in should your connection drop. If it fails completely and you can't reconnect at all your team will still have a chance of winning and your effort will not have gone to waste.

I recommend everyone watch the video The Admiral posted. It really shows how nasty cramps can be.

Lots of excellent ideas in both ElTel and admiral's posts. It's very late here and I think I will need a bit of time to digest them all and then give my thoughts in the morning.

For bowling i'm thinking of a system like this (Open to disagreement and suggestions obviously)

At the beginning of an over, you will declare what type of bowling you will do (Pace, leg spin, off spin) and if you want to go over or round the wicket.

To keep things simple we will have predefined run up lengths for each particular style. As great as it would be to have measuring out your run up a part of this, I don't see it adding much to the overall game and it could waste a bit of time.

If you select pace, you will have a "power up" meter where it goes up and down and you must press a button to lock in the optimal rating. Once you lock in the power, your bowler will begin his run up. During this time period you will move your crosshair to the general location you wish to bowl. For example, if you aim at the middle of the pitch, this will be a bouncer. Right by the wicket will be a Yorker, et cetera. If you want to go straight on, you do nothing. If you want to attempt swing, you can hold down left or right respectively and your bowler's skill , the wicket, the wind condition, and the ball condition will all determine how much you actually get out of it.

If you are bowling spin, you will need to lock in the power rating and then a spin meter as well to determine how much spin you are going to get out of a particular ball. This will be a bit more difficult. If you target outside off stump and do not get full spin, you will be off target. However, if you get it just right, you can grab a clean bowled wicket or an edge. It'll be a bit more gamesmanship here as the best spinners will need to know how much spin to apply from various locations to achieve the desired effect.

And only a cricket player would bitch about cramping. What an incredibly lame sport.

Let it go guys.. cricket?! 46 pages of cricket chatter? Move on with your lives. There is absolutely no way R* will add this to GTA (at least one set in the US) no one here in America cares about cricket. And by no one I mean no one who coincidentally cares about GTA.

BTW admiral: I respect you and find many of your posts to be witty and or informative.

Rugby would have been a better wish.

I don't mean to flame or troll, but the only thing more boring than cricket would be talking about it in GTA for several months and 46 pages.

Soundism: A fair point but it is frankly inaccurate , and I do mean that with all due respect. I'm an American born and raised, no other identity, I care immensely about Cricket and I've been playing GTA games since the very first one. Many of my friends are the same way. So to say that no American GTA player cares about cricket is not exactly correct by the simple logic that i'm here in this thread.

Thank you for the respect. Nothing against Rugby and wouldn't mind seeing it included either.

Crickets would be a pretty good addition in the Sandy Shores area, you know when the sun goes down the nice sound of some crickets would really add to the illusion. Maybe some bullfrogs near swampy areas. What do you guys think? Crickets, Mosquitos, if they added bees we could have honey in GTA:O and I love honey.

I see no reason why shouldn't it be added? What a laugh!!! Going to have to wade through this when i'm absolutely pissed on the weekend. Keep it up lads.

We are thinking the sandy shores air field would make a good playing area. With its dry and cracked surface it would be a good approximation of sub-continental conditions. Of course a sufficiently skilled groundskeeper would be able to transform even this wicket in to a lush, grassy wicket similar to that found at Lord's Santos (Maze Bank arena). Here are some pics I took of the location earlier:

0_0.jpg

0_0.jpg

As you can see there is a box overlooking the playing area which could house the third umpire and commentator. The second picture is from the box. Sniko, hawk eye and other pieces of technology to assist the third umpire will also be housed here. There are also two players sheds in the location making it very suitable.

I think honey on toast wold be great addition to England's snack regime. We could also include crumpets and English muffins along with other assorted spreads including jams and preserves. We would have to ensure first that such items are allowed under England's 80 something page "what you are allowed to eat" guide to ensure realism but I'm sure they are included.

^ You look like a young Darrel Hair before his ban from the elite umpire council for racial bias against Sri Lankan pie chuckers.

Looks like a great site for a game of creakit, from that tower you can probably see all the action. Bet the key to my falcon fits in the cracks in that wicket.

I think it is closer to 200 pages. It obviously was not much help for them. I don't think we'll be able to exactly replicate the entire range of England's food in GTAO but we can make sure that some of the snacks are authorized for realism's sake. For the Indians im expecting all Samosas and Jalebis.

We're going to need to spend some time working on how snicko and drs will actually work, if we are just going to give a replay to the control tower umpire or what. That is probably the easiest way to do it. I'll think on it tonight and post my thoughts tomorrow.

Is there already a cricket on-line multiplayer game?

Is it massively popular?

If the answers to either questions are no, anyone with an ounce of sense can understand why it won't be implemented into gta online.

imo, its probably one of the most boring things to play, let alone watch

people should concentrate on putting up good ideas for gta dev's, not trying to make an IRL sim where people get punished by having to play cricket (everyone bar the toffs at school detested cricket)

Drug running, kidnapping, arms dealing, better store hold-ups, destroyable areas, assassinations, bribery - this is what should be talked about being implemented into gta online. Not a bunch of guys that wear whiter than white pressed clothes that don't get dirty and walk between a set of stumps :S

Can I punch you in the face? I really think it would help your outlook on life. After your racism and homophobia yesterday you are now suggesting violence against other forum members. I don't know why you insist on coming into this thread and acting in such an unpleasant and uncouth way. I imagine you are dangerously close to a ban for your posts, particularly your last.

The only talk of bashing welcome here is talk of the 20/20 Big Bash and how we can implement something similar in GTA Online.

This thread upsets you for some reason, we all get that and since you seem to be incapable of not clicking your mouse button to open this thread, I will give you a tip. You can ignore users and their threads. Go into your settings and select me, The Admiral, El Tel and whoever else is making posts that make you so enraged. I'm close to doing it to you, so I dont have to read your inane comments, but I think even idiots can say something worthwhile every now and again. I have only every blocked Gay Porn Spammer in his various guises but you are coming very close.

i don't even like cricket (and before you say it, no, i don't love it either), but i'd definitely play it were it included in the game. especially if it was implemented as outlined in this thread.

there are some great ideas here and such thought has gone into their practical application, rockstar would be foolish to dismiss the notion.

GTA has a completely different theme and cricket cannot be added to it. If somebody want's to play cricket then they can buy cricket game or best they can play fantasy cricket leagues virtually. There are so many sites which offer that. There is a site called Dream 11 which even offers cash prizes on fantasy cricket matches. And since it is a game of skill; it is completely legal.

Totally agree with this, if it was GTA England/India/Austalia/South Africa then Cricket would be appropriate. One of the several problems with the proposal is that there are for more suitable team sport candidates than cricket.

1) Volleyball - Fits the theme and has a small team size so probably the most likely team sport to implement.

2) Basketball - Fits the theme and has a smallish team size. A possible contender but things start getting trickier with the team size from a technical/lobby stance.

3) Ice Hockey - Almost fits the theme as North Yankton is near Canada and a smallish team size like Basketball but the same issues therein.

4) Baseball - Fits the theme but the team sizes are getting too big.

5) American Football - Fits the theme but team sizes are getting too big.

6) Soccer/Football - Doesn't really fit the theme and the size is too big unless reduced to 5 a side (even then its a large lobby).

7) Cricket - Doesn't fit the theme and the team size is getting too big.

Whether cricket would be at 7 is debatable but the point is there are more thematically relevant team sports to implement than cricket but only a few are actually realistic due to the size of the teams.

I would also put forward that there is an argument team sports don't belong in GTAO at all due to team sizes and possible lobby issues unless they were very small.

The batting cages as suggested by Chiraqie above is as a far more realistic proposition, could fit both cricket and baseball, would keep lobby sizes small and doesn't break the theme totally due to the baseball connection.

This thread is hilarious.

I could only support the addition of cricket under the auspices of an option to which I can spectate in the stands, obviously with ample supply of beer and then later nude streak at some point in the game.
