I can't believe this thread is still going.

Cricket in GTA is pure fantasy. Wrong culture and wrong type of players playing the game.

The idea seems fun as a seperate game but this thread shouldn't be taking up prime spots on the 1st page of a GTA forum. This thread should really be moved to the gameplay section or a wish list section so the people who want to talk fantasy cricket can but then it leaves the forum uncluttered and everyone can get back to talking chadder.

Id be willing to contribute towards a crazy cricket game seperate to the GTA series but the key antagonists on here are trolling to the nth degree and can't be taken seriously with some of the ideas being put forward. All these stupid posts make a credible idea look like the biggest joke since rockstar unveiled GTA online.

How can you possibly reach the conclusion that the wrong kind of people are playing when this thread clearly exists, written by a GTA player? Not to mention the fact that this game sells worldwide, including several countries where cricket is hugely popular. Essentially, what you just did is dismiss offhand the opinions and desires of every GTA player who is not from the US.

I personally think Cricket is a joke of a sport. But if you want to add it and then add something for people who have male reproductive parts all at once I wouldn't be opposed.

Back on topic.

Regarding the twelve man being able to drive a caddy it would be great if the caddy has some customisation. I would love to be able to add my cricket clubs logo (could use crew logo mechanic). I know this is probably a bit unrealistic but some custom modification would be good too. Imagine you club's Caddy just starting off with an esky modification to give the on field players drinks but after delivering enough drinks as twelve man in the vehicle you will unlock the full Gatorade bottle conversion similar to what is used to deliver drinks in modern international games.

We definitely need to be able to add our cricket clubs logo to our clothes, caddy, and other pieces of equipment.

We also need a separate crew membership: One for your "regular" crew and one for your cricket club. I've taken the extreme step of becoming a member of a crew that IS a cricket club (Vinewood Cricket Club) and our logo looks a bit like a West Indies cricket emblem. When my character wears it on the chest of a white polo shirt it looks absolutely amazing.

I do understand that not everyone would want to leave their crew to join a cricket club so we really need to give the option to join both.

I want to talk a little bit about how we will unlock different pieces of equipment but I haven't figured out the entire system just yet. For example, if you want to wear that sleeve thing that Ben Stokes wears on one arm you are going to need to earn it. The same will be true for modifications to the 12th mans caddy, flamboyant umpiring signals like Billy Bowden, et cetera.

I AM SORRY ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE VIDEO, BUT MY WEBCAM IS ABSOLUTELY RUBBISH.

I find it amusing that there are people actually arguing in this thread that since this game is set in the USA, it is therefore primarily targeted at an American market. Here's a big shocker: millions of people outside the US buy this game too, OMG MIND BLOWING MY EYES HAVE BEEN OPENED.

You realise that Rockstar is a British company, right?

Rockstar North, originally based in Dundee, Now in Edinburgh and have a branch in my home city of Leeds!

I'm very aware that this game isn't just played by Americans, if you had read my previous posts you would see that I stated that GTA is a satire of American life and culture,

I'm not even against cricket as a sport or as a video game. I'm just a realist who knows this will not happen in GTA V.

For all you ignorant Americans who think cricket should have nothing to do with America, the only reason you guys don't play it anymore is because you disowned anything that had something to do with the British when you f*cked them off. I'm from Australia and even I know this.

You realise that Rockstar is a British company, right?

No, its not. The Rockstar Games label was founded in New York City in 1998 by video game producers Sam Houser, Dan Houser, Terry Donovan, Jamie King and Gary Foreman. The main headquarters of Rockstar Games (commonly referred to as Rockstar NYC) is located on Broadway in the SoHo neighborhood of New York City, part of the Take-Two Interactive offices.

There are eight satellite studios:

Rockstar Japan - Tokyo, Japan 2005–present - Responsible for localisation of Rockstar titles in Japan.

Rockstar Leeds - Leeds, England 2004–present - Previously known as Mobius Entertainment, they created Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories for the PlayStation Portable, Max Payne for the Game Boy Advance, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, and the music game Beaterator. The studio's most recent work is the Microsoft Windows version of L.A. Noire.

Rockstar Lincoln - Lincoln, England 1999–present - Quality assurance and localisation, previously known as Tarantula Studios.

Rockstar London - London, England 2005–present - Formed in November 2005. Took over development of Manhunt 2 after Rockstar Vienna closed and developed the portable adaptation of Midnight Club: Los Angeles, Midnight Club LA Remix.

Rockstar New England - Andover, Massachusetts 2008–present - Acquired on April 4, 2008 and was previously known as Mad Doc Software. They developed the Wii, Xbox 360, and PC ports of Bully.[6]

Rockstar North - Edinburgh, Scotland 1999–present - Founded in 1988 as DMA Design, they are famous for the Grand Theft Auto and Manhunt franchises, as well as the original Lemmings games.

That summary of Rockstar's operations was very interesting but I'm not sure what it has to do with GTA cricket. I don't know why you keep coming in here trying to derail the topic.

I would prefer soccer, though it's the sport I hate the most, after cricket.

Why soccer and not football?

Well since GTA cricket does not now, and will not EVER, exist I figured I would help chainsoar get his facts straight.

Do you guys think we should explore the role of a player controlled groundskeeper? I'm thinking we would take dues from each cricket club member similar to apartment bills in gtao and allow groundsmen to have a lawn cutting mini game, as well as a two player minigame where we push the heavy roller along the pitch and also spray paint in the lines of play when they get eroded.

The advantages would be that a groundsman could bias the wicket towards his spinners or fast bowlers and it would give each wicket a unique personality.

The best groundsmen could be sought out by different clubs and certain players would strive under certain conditions.

It would also give captains something to complain about when their team loses.

What do you think?

Guys, please stay on topic . Some of you may hate this idea or find it ridiculous but a lot of us are passionate about it and have put months worth of work and ideas into this thread. I'd just ask that you either respectfully disagree about the idea itself and the cricket rather than posting nonsense and insults that are designed to derail the thread.

The best thing to do if you don't like this thread is move on and let those of us that are into this continue discussing it with each other. Please?

A lawn mower mini game, a heavy roller minigame and spraying paint lines in GTA!?! Utter nonsense!

Actually, this sounds exactly like the kind of thing Rockstar would do. They've already had the lawn mowing mini game in Bully, and considering the amount of people they had running for miles through the desert in GTA in order to be accepted into a fictional cult, or even mopping the floor of an office building. I don't see a grounds keeping mini game as far fetched at all.

I like the idea of biasing the wickets, but there would need to be a specific reward for me want to be a grounds-keeper, maybe a utility room as a free safehouse?

I think whoever suggested to make this into a poll had a great idea. It seems as if there is less than a handful of people trying to keep this thread alive but those same people are completely ignoring any posts that aren't in agreement with their views. Poll?

Right on El Tel.

Lawn cutting is already established in Rockstar games. Spray painting is also an established concept in the Grand Theft Auto Genre. For the heavy roller, i'm thinking of a system where each player mashes buttons in unison to keep the thing pushing straight or else it will veer off course. Something similar to arm wrestling, perhaps.

The Groundskeeper would definitely have a shed to store the roller, tractor, and other equipment in. I'm seeing no reason why it cant act as an optional safe house for him to sleep in with a radio, frat-boy fridge, and whatever else he'd like to put in there.

Great stuff. I'm really liking proving incentive to encourage people to take on roles other than players. I think with the utility room safe house you mentioned and by allowing groundskeepers to modify their lawn mowers, that going down the groundskeeper path will be very inviting.

Not sure why people who are not interested are calling for this to be locked. Sure Rockstar may not take all of the ideas we have come up with on board but you forgot this game will likely be released in PC. PC gaming has quite a large modder community and I'm sure many different cricket mods will become available after the game is out on PC. This thread will be a great resource for any future PC modders if rockstar does not decide to implement all of our ideas. It may seem ridiculous to you for us to be discussing the role of a groundskeeper but only by covering all angles will we ensure that we consider everything and it is the best way to ensure nothing is missed.

As a side note, isn't there already a souped up tractor like thing you can find in Sandy Shores? We could use that as a template for what type of modifications the grounds man would be able to install on his tractor.

It is a well known fact that the best pitch men are highly paid professionals and it is not as easy as it looks to cut in those attractive lines.

It takes too many people to play. Even golf can be a pain with four people goofing around.

I voted "No"

-Not because it's a bad idea, but because it's logistically impossible in the GTA arena to get that many random people to do anything but act like idiots..

That is a fair point but I don't think the type of people who want to play cricket in GTAO are going to act ridiculous and spoil it, unless we tie it in to some super crazy unlockable weapons that everybody is going to want or something.

I can get 16 player races with some regularity.

As you can join multiple crews I don't think it will be too much of an issue for players to form and join crikcet club based crews. They can still be part of their regular crew and simply switch over to their cricket club crew before a game.

Equipment will definitely bed to be unlocked. Whether this is simply through matches played and raising your cricket level (similar to how most items are unlocked in online) or through specific feats (such as how the skull t shirt is unlocked for completing a survival). Billy Bowden umpiring style for example could only be unlocked once you have been dropped from the ICC Elite umpires group for making a set number of poor decisions.

I very much know about the Vinewood Cricket Club. One of the first times I corresponded with you, I asked for membership but alas I am on xbox. I might play with the settings in my Social Clun account to see if it will allow me join playstation crews. Of course I will not be able to play and represent the vinewood cricket club on the play station but I would think of myself as a social member and dues paying supporter.

As The Admiral mentioned there is already a lawn mower in the game. Rockstar have also already have done a spray painting mini game in "The Warriors". The company has always had a fascination with mini games where you operate industrial equipment (think the fork lifts and other dock equipment from single player) so I think they would be interested in doing a roller. With the previous lawn mowing game in Bully it will be very easy to implement a playable groundskeeper.

I would just like to add that this is now the most popular unpinned thread in the history of GTA online forums, so the idea obviously has some real momentum.

If only they realized that they could end it at any time by simply not clicking the link that brings them to this thread.

I for one would be disappointed if this thread was closed just because some people don't understand how to leave a thread alone. Anyone who reads this thread can see, quite clearly, that the majority of people in favour of adding cricket to GTA have been nothing but polite, respectful and well mannered, even in the face of some rather rude posters. I hardly consider these to be traits of trolling.

I also don't see people crying out to close the 23 page long thread titled "Guys Who Roleplay As Girls In Games Are Weirdos." How can a thread that questions a gamers personality based on their choice of avatar have any more validity over a thread in which some cricket fans are having a well mannered and respectful conversation regarding the implementation of a sport they enjoy into a game that this forum was created for? As you can probably tell, I'm not a fan of that thread, but I don't go around demanding it to be locked, I just don't bother to contribute to it. It really is that simple.

The main reason I would like to see cricket in GTAO, other than for the enjoyment of the sport itself, is because it would make finding people who are capable of that rare trait of good sportsmanship, such as theadmiral and Jolly SWAGman (amongst others), much easier to find.

Long live the GTAO cricket thread.
