It's been a while since I have posted on this thread as I have been rather busy with my coaching duties for the English One Day International Squad, but I just wanted to let you all know that I have been following this thread very closely and have been hugely impressed with both the sheer innovative genius of some of the ideas I have heard and with the passion of all you GTAOnline/Cricket fans out there.

I have been playing a fair bit of GTAonline this past week and while I have enjoyed participating in various Races/Deathmatches I have to admit that I will be playing this game a LOT more when the cricket is added.

Initially I was hoping to contribute with some ideas on adding mechanics and features to this game, but I have been slightly humbled by the obvious level of technical expertise regarding game development that has been displayed in this thread. Leave the mechanics to the experts on this forum and the capable guys at Rockstar I say!!

I would also like to express my genuine admiration for theadmiral regarding the way he has handled the vitriolic abuse that has been directed at him by some of the less mature members of this forum. Believe me, I have been sledged by the best of them during my career. Glenn McGrath in particular was very harsh at times and frequently accused me of doing things with Nasser Hussain that would make you blush.

I am just saying I know how hard it can be to concentrate and focus on achieving something great when insults and snide comments are being thrown your way. Just keep turning the other cheek to all those haters out there and concentrate on what we all know is important....adding the beautiful game of cricket to GTA Online.

What an inspirational post. While my cricketing career is no where near what yours was, I've heard every sledge in the book and am accustomed to keeping my cool under pressure. It is just one skill that cricket (in real life, or GTAO) can bring to a person - The ability to stay focused when everyone is trying to get you to think about something else. Thank you for stopping in again, it is great to have someone like you on board with this project.

I've seen some videos of Glenn Mcgrath at his best (or worst) and i'd like to see this type of sledging in GTAO Cricket, but only at the risk of getting caught on the stump mic and fined. I know in your time the technology was not good enough to pick all of this stuff up.

I AM SORRY ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE VIDEO, BUT MY WEBCAM IS ABSOLUTELY RUBBISH.

Man the f*ck up and stop whining about sledging.

We want it in GTAO cricket but just a risk of getting caught and fined, like what happened to Michael Clarke recently. I'm not bothered by a bit of banter, it is good for developing focus. Calm down m8

Some really great content here. We can base the sledging mechanic off of the strip club touching mechanic in single player. You can verbally abuse players on the microphone and their disadvantage increases but if Aleem Dar hears you he will sanction you 25 percent of your match fee ($ and RP/JP in GTAO). For example if you tell a player to get ready for a broken f*cking arm, or verbally abuse an England player about having clinical depression, you will gain an advantage but if you get caught you will look bad.

If you punch an England batsmen in a bar and then grow a ridiculous moustache you will also have an advantage against them but risk a 25 percent match fee penalty, so it is sort of giving up a bit of reward for gaining an edge over your opponents.

I really love your idea about a West Indian fast bowler haircut, it could have a groove down it if really short or if we are going for the true Indo-Trinidadian look we can add the gelled Ravi Rampaul to GTA Online.

Ravi-Rampaul_5.jpg

With that haircut and a 90MPH delivery I don't see how anyone would stand much of a chance. We can include the Monty Panesar beard, and also add a mechanic for urinating on bouncers after being ejected from the strip club for harassing the women too much. I'd really like to see a Merv Hughes mo added as well and the ability to take out insurance on it through Mors Mutual.

The more I see of your pics at Sandy Shores, the more I think it should be just mildly tweaked and turned into GTAO's main field/wicket. The hangar is perfect for drinking, urinating, and eating spicy snacks. The wicket should provide a bit of purchase for fast bowlers as well as turn for subcontinent style bowlers. The cracks in the dirt turf will add unpredictability. With a match official using hawkeye , snicko, and hotspot up in that tower surely we will get most decisions right.

For everyone calling this retarded and saying it is never going to happen i'd just suggest you move on. Many people like you have hated on many popular ideas over the years. For example, saying the world is round. You guys are the same who would be saying "Time and time again it has been proven that it is flat and you all are retarded."

There is no need to be upset that you see a good idea gaining momentum. If you don't like it , just step out of the way and let the majority who support it discuss it and move on. I know for a fact that Rockstar, Dale Steyn, and Graham Thorpe are all following this thread actively so trust me that you are in the minority even if you are a bit more vocal.

Lastly, i'd like to talk to Rockstar about paying Kookaburra just a small amount to license using their balls in this game. I think we can all agree that even though you get less overs out of it, it is a better ball and we do want reverse swing to be included in GTAO cricket.

Wow Admiral,

These are some quite exciting ideas. I admit that I had trouble getting to sleep last night thinking about all the possibilities for the game. Got a lot going through my head right now but I'll try and put some thoughts down.

1. I'm loving the idea of the sledging mechanic. As well as using the stripper touching system from single player I think we can also borrow from the police's viewing cone mechanics. Using your examples let's say the captain of your team team sledges the opposition by saying "get ready for a f*cking broken arm" and is heard by the any officials (using strip club mechanic), the umpires will be on guard for sledging. The umpires will then have a vision cone that shows up in the fielding side's mini-map, similar to when police are looking for you when wanted. If you then want to taunt the opposition about their depression you will need to ensure you are out of the umpires viewing cone while doing so or face a 25% match fee.

2. I'm really liking the facial hair and other customisation ideas. For mustache growth I'd like to see a mechanic where the style of mo evolves over time. An example would be if your player was Australian your mo would start off ridiculous and a little sleazy looking and would only give you a sledging bonus if you punch an English player in a bar. If you keep the mo it will evolve over time before eventually becoming the glorious merv moustache(which gives +3 sledging and a bonus back stretch character action). I don't think you should be able to rock a moe like merve's without committing, should be at least one in game year to get there. Should apply same mechanic to stylish hair like Ravi's.

3. Food idea is great. For an authentic in ground experience all food you expect to be hot (like the previously mentioned poor quality pies at the maze bank oval) should be served cold and all beer hot.

4. I'm sure rockstar will contact kookaburra regarding balls. Given the momentum the cricket idea is having I wouldn't be surprised if rockstar contacts all major cricketing suppliers and pays royalties to give player a choice on different gear. Would be interesting to see different styles of balls used in various conditions.

Thoughts?

Edit: 70s cricket hair would also be a great addition. I still also think the beer drinking challenge on a flight to a game has merit. Whoever drinks the most beers on the flight to the game gets a sledging bonus and if you manage to beat David Boon's record you should get an achievement.

Further to my last post here are some of the 70's cricket styles i would like included, of course these should also be insurable by mors mutual (I'd hate for something to happen to my luscious locks). Rockstar should also these options are 100% unglitch/unhackable (along with the gelled Ravi and especially the merv moe). I don't mind people glitching pink tanks that shoot chrome adders instead of shells, but to see someone walking around with a merv mo and Afro without earning it would really upset me.

I'm thinking of a system where, for example, you'd need to take 100 wickets before you can wear a Merv Mo. It definitely needs to be earned, and is a privilege , not a right.

I'd like to see "The Richie" added as well, not sure about how to unlock it. Possibly by having the perfect leg spin delivery for a number of overs.

Richie-Benaud_0.jpg

The Geoffrey could be added if you are a high scoring player but very selfish and score at such a slow rate that your own team decides to run you out.

article-1063733-02D5192800000578-692_468

I'd also like to spend a bit more time fleshing out the ball tampering mechanics. Anyone can try simple maneuvers like rubbing it in the dirt or picking at the seam, but if you want to tamper balls like a South African by rubbing them on hidden zippers in your trousers, you definitely will need to earn it and unlock it.

I AM SORRY ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE VIDEO, BUT MY WEBCAM IS ABSOLUTELY RUBBISH.

go back to the old avatar admiral, that new one is scary with the pedo tash!

Normally I don't buckle to popular opinons, but I have received so many complaints about it that I've brought the old one back.

R* ought to use the Ashes Cricket 2013 code. They can't make it worse....can they?

They could use this, I actually like the run up and delivery mechanics in it, but I think what we have built here actually is quite a bit better than what is in Ashes 2013 and is more suited for the GTAO environment. For example, you cant make your own cricketer in that, and there is no drinking or eating. (Or smoking)

As said, i like the idea...but now your customising a car without even owning one.

Unlocking a beard, third umpire, drinks, Ritchie? You don't need that sh*t, getting cricket itself should be your priority, not pimping out something that doesn't exist.

I get you're excited, but by putting so many ideas into this, you're making the project significantly more complicated, cluttered and unnecessary that it's no surprise you are being dismissed.

Basics - a bowler, batter, fields man, A.I umpires, a small stand for the crowd, game mechanics - done.

If you get this, then start with the idea of adding playable umpires, then get excited about new add-ons.

All you're doing now is describing a game that is strictly suited for a dedicated cricket game, it's shouldn't need to be a hugely significant side-activity when most people won't buy it.

Respectfully disagree all you want, most people, no matter the location, won't bother with a huge cricket package...small, simple, done.

Great work, just pull back a bit.

It's not really adding anything that doesn't exist already. Unlock shirts as tattoos from head shots , paint from races or stunt jumps, why not hairstyles, facial hair, and cricket clothes from cricket achievements ? We want to give the casuals a reason to play it until the bug bites and they get addicted after learning the rules and understanding how great cricket is.

WHAT THE f*ck

That's like saying you like Bieber due to one good song (which there are none)

Just remembered a good sledge I heard last summer during a midweek match from my captain after i'd bowled a maiden (with all of them swings and misses) - "Oi!! Batsman??!! d'you think if he bowls you a piano next time he's on you'd be able to play that??!!"

Was well funny at the time!!

Liking all these ideas, especially getting into how the tampering mechanic will work. I'll throw out a few a quick ideas. I'll give my full thoughts when I can get to a computer to easier post examples (and type easier than a phone)

1. The mechanic for damage to cars could possibly be applied to cricket balls for ball tampering or general wear to the ball over time. The ball could have different damage areas similar to when different panels on the car are damaged. If you do a simple manoeuvre such as (your examples) rubbing the ball in the dirt it would have a similar effect to the balls integrity to maybe punching a car would to it's. If you manage to unlock the hidden South African zipper it would be a similar effect to the ball as a heavy sniper rifle would to a car.

2. I'd be a proud owner of any of those haircuts. Your unlock ideas I agree with except for "The Ritchie". I think while a great cricketer Ritchie is best know for services to commentary and think the unlock should reflect that. The third umpire could quite easily commentate without their duties being effected. Maybe saying "morning everyone" as commentator 25 times at the start of the days or 100 "marvelous crickets that" after good play play will unlock "the Ritchie".

3. Glad we agree the merv moe is a privilege not a right. I noticed you changed your picture back from merve saying you were bending to public pressure. If that wasn't really the case and you really changed the picture back cause you think you haven't earned a merv moe I have to say I disagree completely. For your service to cricket on this thread I for one think you have more than earned the privilege to wear a merv.

Hey i'm not saying it's not a good idea, let's just put that out there.

What i am saying however, that you should have the basics down and delivered before saying "well this would be cool, oh and this too"...

As for Ritchie being in it, hells to the no in all possible ways.

I'd rather drive a car into a tree than listen to his stories of cricket in the 50s if he were a commentator or in it at all..

Seriously, the commentators here kill the game sooooooooooooo much that it's almost unbearable, so no sh*tty sayings please.

No one is suggesting Ritchie be in the game (that is a good suggestion though, having him as an NPC) just unlocking "The Ritchie" hair style.

No offence but if you don't have intelligence to appreciate Ritchie I'm going to treat your posts on cricket accordingly. I do like your idea of Ritchie as a NPC though.

If i don't have the intelligence? How could that not be taken in a non-offensive way?

Did i question his ability to have played well in the day?

There's rumbling BS (Slats and the crew), and then there's Ritchie's rumbling, if you can't handle an idol taking the piss, you live with your head too far up.

You guys are so touchy at any criticism of this idea, calm the f*ck down.

Your right intelligence was completely the wrong wrong and I'm sorry. What I meant what was if you can't appreciate Ritchie's subtle charms i don't think we will ever see see completely eye to eye on cricket matters. Slat's and co have their appeal but I suppose I'm a traditionalist. Sorry again.

I do really like your suggestion that Ritchie as an NPC. It's one of the better suggestions I've seen put forward I think. Maybe he could give some cricket related missions.

Not a prob.

Ritchie speaks from experience and is more than capable of having an opinion formed by that, there's no question at all. But hearing how he bowled Larry out in 1957 by a googlie down leg stump is not everyone's thing (that's an example and just to make a point).

But hey, experience was important then, now it's just a case of pulling people out of a matchstick box.

Cricket related missions :D

I'm keen to hear your suggestions to this, and that's not sarcasm.

Here's something for ya - my dad spoke to someone who knows someone in regional cricket who knows someone in state cricket who knows someone who knows a selector, and he was saying that once you're picked for the big team, it's very difficult to get out/replaced. Once you're in, they don't like looking... - hence why you have (imo) the current sh*tty side we do now.

Have you guys ever heard Richie talk about a proper grip for a leg spinner? I think we should have him as the tutorial coach for GTAO Cricket, showing you the mechanics and throwing in some wise quips about form. As Richie always says "Develop a good leg break, it will take you 3-5 years to do it. And then bowl it 90 percent of the time."

A batting cage could be done similar to the baseball in gta4.

A grenade instead of the ball with targets to hit? :D

Why did you bump this you silly Villa muppet

Your insult has left me devastated, How could you say such a hurtful thing? :D

First thing I thought of saying

It's taken some time, but I have found it in my heart to forgive you.

Don't let the insults bring you down. It is part and parcel of being a GTAO cricketer. I'm glad you have forgiven the haters.

DEIDICATE THE TIME TO MATERING SPIN BOWLING. Have you guys ever heard Richie talk about a proper grip for a leg spinner? Sorry for my tardiness in replying. I have been absorbed with the Ashes. Ritchie as a tutorial coach would be great. It should definitely take your player 3 - 5 years to learn how to properly bowl a leg break but I would be open to this being in game years rather than real life years as I know some people that play gta would be too impatient to dedicate this time to the art of spin bowling.

I'm liking your examples of different possible careers paths and perks depending on your characters nationality and specialisation. For example if you are a Pakistani player who admits to ball tampering you will have a chance to become a high ranking politician after backing a military coup on your retirement from the game. If you are an overweight Australian spin bowler who frequently cheats on his wife you have a chance to escape sanction for failing a drug test by blaming your mother but will have the disadvantage of your character's face being changed into a lifeless plastic mask like this:

shane-warne-297x202.jpg

To all those doubting the validity of the sledging mechanic I suggest your read some coverage of the last Ashes test at Adelaide. The English are quite scared of Mitchell Johnson and it is have a massive impact on their performance. I think GTA online cricket needs to reflect this. I must admit I would be quite scared seeing this face glaring at me from the bowlers end :

What are your thoughts on developing a bouncer mechanic? I think this would need to be tied into the sledging and intimidation mechanics.

I agree that is very hard to be dropped from a side once in the team. We will need to be vigilant to ensure this type of cronyism isn't introduced to GTA online cricket to ensure the best players are always selected for sides. That could be another path for those not wishing to play but still be involved to go down and some gamers could become specialised selectors.

I will need to do a little bit more thinking on cricket related side missions. I will get back to you after I have put my (baggy-green) thinking cap on.

Bouncers will be a fundamental part of Cricket in GTA Online. Batsmen will need to keep alert and know when to duck , sway, or attempt a hook when facing a bouncer. Mitchell Johnson's mo will definitely be added.

It is going to be hard to make certain that cronyism is not involved in GTAO Cricket because we are not going to be ruled by any governing body and Rockstar has it's hands full with all the other hacks and problems the game is facing. We will to a certain extent need to trust that everyone will be honest with each other and only select players for their team off of merit rather than family connections, politics, money, or whatever else.

JollySwagman's idea about taking a special career path as a selector could work , especially since we've already built up and established a mechanic for allowing players to pursue a career as umpires.

I AM SORRY ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE VIDEO, BUT MY WEBCAM IS ABSOLUTELY RUBBISH.
