Why the fck would you resurrect such a terrible thread. Admiral i am most certain you are one of those dudes from Family Guy with the monacles and undescernable accents sipping tea like a true poof. People from North America have no idea how cricket is played or what the rules are...yet you think they will add it to a game about LA...moron. this thread makes me want to punch babies and I am sure someone has contracted aids as a direct result.

Wow so many people let their goat get got so easily.

I don't have any problems with cricket or a cricket game mode, but it's pretty obvious it won't be added to GTA V, at least not by Rockstar. Here's why:

1. The game takes place in Southern California, not Britain or India. Almost no one plays cricket in this part of the country, especially when there is a beach nearby. I live in SoCal, so take my word for it. They would add sports relative to the environment to enhance immersion, so volleyball, bowling, and ping pong are all likely to be added.

2. Why cricket? It's an odd sport in terms of popularity in North America, so there's no reason it should make an appearance in this America-esque video game. Basically the same reason as point 1.

3. There are no cricket/baseball fields anywhere on the map, and I doubt Rockstar would edit the map just for this one game mode. And don't say you can play cricket anywhere, because even though that may be true in real life, I doubt that would be true for this game.

The only realistic way of getting cricket into the game is if in a year or two Rockstar actually follows up on their statement that they might make additional maps for the game, with at least one of those maps being a Commonwealth-influenced country. In that case, cricket would be a sensible sport to add in place of, say, golf.

1) You are wrong, cricket is played all over the US including in Southern California. Please google "Compton Cricket Club", and that is just one example of cricket being played in the real Los Angeles out of many. Also, mentioning Britian and India is a bit out of order because you are leaving out Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Bangladesh, all the West Indies nations, Sri Lanka, etc and that is just the big nations. I live in the United States in a major city on the east coast and I can tell you that cricket is played very heavily. It is probable that you just do not have your eyes open to it since you are ignorant about the game.

2) It is the second most popular sport in the world.

3) We have already discussed at length where cricket will be played on the map, multiple locations. Please read the thread before commenting.

And for everyone else saying that this is a terrible idea, or insulting me, or saying that this thread has caused AIDS, please just move along. You don't need to throw your toys out the pram because some people are discussing a very good idea that you personally feel is not to your tastes. I avoid lots of threads on this forum that I dislike and I would suggest that you do the same instead of making yourself look like an immature child by tossing around insults at a bunch of people who are just having fun brainstorming brilliant ideas about adding the game they love, to another game they love.

Does anyone know the rules of cricket? I've played it all my life, all i know is to hit the ball and run, or bowl it at someone... Apart from that, some gangster over there and myself know about as much as each other.

Los Santos = Los Angeles.

There is no such sport in America.

Oh yeaaaah?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compton_Cricket_Club

The Compton Cricket Club (CCC), or the "Homies and the Popz", is a cricket club based in Compton, Los Angeles County, California, USA. The CCC is the only all American-born exhibition cricket team. The CCC has toured to the UK 4 times (last time in 2001) and most recently to Australia in February 2011.

That was just used as an expression, i should've said "that's stumps" instead. :D

I'm glad that some intelligent people are finally backing me up on the fact that it is played all over the USA including Los Angeles. So it is perfect for gtao. What is sad is that some "Americans" on this forum are totally ignorant of what goes on in their own country. Talk about sheltered. What is next? An Aussie saying there are no kangaroos? An Irish person saying there are no potatoes or Guinness?

Cricket is as American as apple pie .

HELLS TO THE f*ck NO!!! That sh*t sport would be beyond out of place in san andreas!

EDIT: @Admiral: Apple Pie is not actually an American invention... So yeah, your statement is as accurate it gets.

Why cricket? Its like the most boring sport on the planet. Sorry let me correct that, universe*.

I beg to differ. Golf is infinitely more boring than Cricket. And some say chess is a sport, that's boring to watch. And lawn bowls sends many a person to sleep.

Am I finally going to learn how to play cricket through GTAO ? Many are those that tried to explain me the rules, but all it sounds like is a lame version of baseball. Which is already lame.

American therefore doesn't get sarcasm. Do you even know logic?

Abusive, also, "As American as apple pie" is an American saying, not something that indicates apple pie is actually American. Please grow up.

It's nothing like Baseball. The players don't prance around in tights chewing bubblegum!

This is a pretty simple video that explains the game reasonably well.

I could add irony to the list too if you'd like. I find it ironic that in trying to defend America's reputation of not understanding sarcasm, you failed to spot the sarcasm in my post. I can't tell your location from your profile but because you failed to spot both irony and sarcasm, I'd have to conclude that you are most definitely from America.

as much as I crave variety in the game (and wouldn't mind playing this, jai lai, bocce or croquet), I'd have to agree with you on this one.

Are you kidding? Cricket has so much more depth than baseball. You are just speaking about your personal tastes, not commonly accepted reality. Also, cricket is far more suited to the mechanics in GTAO.

The only time I watch cricket is the world cup... preferably when the English are getting their assess handed to them by Pakistan or Jamaicans.

Anyhow, my assessment stands. Despite it's depth, cricket IS 1D baseball. And inclement weather--a mandatory requirement by Murphy's Law--only prolongs watching this torture.

Some really great content here. We can base the sledging mechanic off of the strip club touching mechanic in single player. You can verbally abuse players on the microphone and their disadvantage increases but if Aleem Dar hears you he will sanction you 25 percent of your match fee ($ and RP/JP in GTAO). For example if you tell a player to get ready for a broken f*cking arm, or verbally abuse an England player about having clinical depression, you will gain an advantage but if you get caught you will look bad.

If you punch an England batsmen in a bar and then grow a ridiculous moustache you will also have an advantage against them but risk a 25 percent match fee penalty, so it is sort of giving up a bit of reward for gaining an edge over your opponents.

I really love your idea about a West Indian fast bowler haircut, it could have a groove down it if really short or if we are going for the true Indo-Trinidadian look we can add the gelled Ravi Rampaul to GTA Online.

Ravi-Rampaul_5.jpg

With that haircut and a 90MPH delivery I don't see how anyone would stand much of a chance. We can include the Monty Panesar beard, and also add a mechanic for urinating on bouncers after being ejected from the strip club for harassing the women too much. I'd really like to see a Merv Hughes mo added as well and the ability to take out insurance on it through Mors Mutual.

The more I see of your pics at Sandy Shores, the more I think it should be just mildly tweaked and turned into GTAO's main field/wicket. The hangar is perfect for drinking, urinating, and eating spicy snacks. The wicket should provide a bit of purchase for fast bowlers as well as turn for subcontinent style bowlers. The cracks in the dirt turf will add unpredictability. With a match official using hawkeye , snicko, and hotspot up in that tower surely we will get most decisions right.

For everyone calling this retarded and saying it is never going to happen i'd just suggest you move on. Many people like you have hated on many popular ideas over the years. For example, saying the world is round. You guys are the same who would be saying "Time and time again it has been proven that it is flat and you all are retarded."

There is no need to be upset that you see a good idea gaining momentum. If you don't like it , just step out of the way and let the majority who support it discuss it and move on. I know for a fact that Rockstar, Dale Steyn, and Graham Thorpe are all following this thread actively so trust me that you are in the minority even if you are a bit more vocal.

Lastly, i'd like to talk to Rockstar about paying Kookaburra just a small amount to license using their balls in this game. I think we can all agree that even though you get less overs out of it, it is a better ball and we do want reverse swing to be included in GTAO cricket.

Wow Admiral,

These are some quite exciting ideas. I admit that I had trouble getting to sleep last night thinking about all the possibilities for the game. Got a lot going through my head right now but I'll try and put some thoughts down.

1. I'm loving the idea of the sledging mechanic. As well as using the stripper touching system from single player I think we can also borrow from the police's viewing cone mechanics. Using your examples let's say the captain of your team team sledges the opposition by saying "get ready for a f*cking broken arm" and is heard by the any officials (using strip club mechanic), the umpires will be on guard for sledging. The umpires will then have a vision cone that shows up in the fielding side's mini-map, similar to when police are looking for you when wanted. If you then want to taunt the opposition about their depression you will need to ensure you are out of the umpires viewing cone while doing so or face a 25% match fee.

2. I'm really liking the facial hair and other customisation ideas. For mustache growth I'd like to see a mechanic where the style of mo evolves over time. An example would be if your player was Australian your mo would start off ridiculous and a little sleazy looking and would only give you a sledging bonus if you punch an English player in a bar. If you keep the mo it will evolve over time before eventually becoming the glorious merv moustache(which gives +3 sledging and a bonus back stretch character action). I don't think you should be able to rock a moe like merve's without committing, should be at least one in game year to get there. Should apply same mechanic to stylish hair like Ravi's.

3. Food idea is great. For an authentic in ground experience all food you expect to be hot (like the previously mentioned poor quality pies at the maze bank oval) should be served cold and all beer hot.

4. I'm sure rockstar will contact kookaburra regarding balls. Given the momentum the cricket idea is having I wouldn't be surprised if rockstar contacts all major cricketing suppliers and pays royalties to give player a choice on different gear. Would be interesting to see different styles of balls used in various conditions.

Thoughts?

Edit: 70s cricket hair would also be a great addition. I still also think the beer drinking challenge on a flight to a game has merit. Whoever drinks the most beers on the flight to the game gets a sledging bonus and if you manage to beat David Boon's record you should get an achievement.
