I think this is wrong because when I travel to Canberra everyone drinks XXXX in the pubs. But i'm not Australian so I wont argue. We just need something authentic in GTAO for cricket.

Well if on 3 trips over there and nightly pub visits everyone is from Queensland that would be very odd. But it is possible. Maybe we can give a choice of lagers, or just make up some Lager for GTAO . Like invent a brand name like Pisswasser but different. So we can have an authentic Australian cricket experience without having to get into all these details. The key is that it is a lager really.

 

We should add the Geelong cats to GTAO also but that is another thread

Im from NSW. Sydney to be exact. No AFL here either (there is but not really). Why would you come to australia and then spend your time in Canberra? its a boring hole of a place.

 

Seriously if you come to australia again stay somewhere on the coast. im told the gold coast (Queensland) is great for tourists. and if you stayed there you could take a road trip down to byron (the top of NSW).

If its a free trip and everything is comped, well thats awesome then. tell them you want to come between the 2-5 of january. This is when summernats is held in Canberra, then you will see some real bogan behaviour. I wouldn't recomend going to this event as a lone chick in fact i wouldn't recomend a chick going without a bodygaurd actually now that i think about it.

What is the max amount of players allowed in a deathmatch/race/parachute jump allowed? Wouldn't adding Cricket also make lobbies have to expand their numbers? Also, how easy will it be to fill a lobby of that size? Or can Cricket be play with fewer players? Because from what I understand, both teams are 11 men, 11 men each team?

The max is 16 and it works out perfectly ( we went over this earlier in the thread.) 11 fielders, 2 batsmen = 13, + 1 umpire, 1 leg umpire, and 1 match official which equals 16. The batsmen who are waiting to come in act as spectators until it is their turn to bat.

 

 

 

 

Has any one suggested the possibility of letting a player take the role of third umpire and implementing a decision review system?

 

A player could sit in a room with a television with a good view of the game area (let's say in the maze bank complex since the consensus seems to be having the game area near there somewhere). If the umpire finds a decision too difficult they could refer the decision to the third umpire, who would then have the ability to review the footage of the last delivery on the television (similar to weasel news) and call whether the batter is out. Players could challenge an umpires decision if they believe it is wrong and refer to the third umpire,who could the review the footage and if necessary overturn the decision. Of course there would be a limit on the amount of challenges in an innings to add that extra tactical dimension.

We definitely have discussed at length how all the umpires (bowlers end, leg , and third match official) will be played by players. There was an argument earlier about using hawkeye and snicko because players of Indian nationality may refuse to play and we don't want the BCCI causing problems for cricket in GTAO. For example, to signal six runs, you push both sticks up.

 

I would like to see hawkeye and snicko for one reason - On the actual field, i'm more inclined to go with the honour system. But judging how people act and play in GTAO I can totally see players lying about nicks and appealing excessively for dubious LBWs. I'm not sure if we would have to pay that guy in Australia a license fee to use Hawkeye / Hotspot but i'm sure it wouldn't be much.

 

We'll need a speed camera also so that if any Aussie bowler exceeds 90mph, England stops trying and collapses immediately. The rule of thumb that any delivery faster than the number of pages in their "What we are allowed to eat" book (83 pages) will immediately take wickets.

Speaking of Indian Cricket and the third umpire, I would like to suggest another possible location for cricket matches within GTA Online. The landing strip in Sandy Shores would be a great area. Sure the dirt ground won't be reminding any one of Lords but it does remind me of street cricket played on dirt pitches in the slums of India (where Cricket is probably at it's most popular) . What initially attracted me to the area is it has a great location for a third umpire or scorer's box. Next to the hangar is a small room containing two televisions that can only be accessed by ladder. The room has a good view of the surrounding area and is very similar to scorers boxes located in regional grounds ( in Australia at least). Sure the area would not be as ideal as say the maze bank but Im being realistic. While I think it's inevitable that Rockstar will eventually implement cricket I'm not sure they will go to the extent of redesigning the map and we may have to amek do with existing infrastructure. If this does end of being the case I think this box would be perfect for a third umpire. I have taken pics and will post later.

We can use the dirt pitch at Sandy Shores to reflect Indian, Sri Lankan, Pakistani, and West Indian wickets, the type of wicket where your car key can fall into the crack and a pace bowler turns into a leg spinner by hitting the crack and causing unpredictable spin. I really love your idea about the commentary box at the Sandy Shores Airfield. We can use that to review all hawkeye, snicko, and hotspot systems. Obviously if we are playing at the green field near michaels (Lords) we can have decision review from the Maze Bank building.

 

I'm thinking we can use the grass strip near Vespucci Beach for the Gabba and MCG where we will get a bit more purchase for fast bowlers.

 

I was thinking about including regional food for the drinks breaks at each different venue.

 

Sandy Shores: Samosas, Onion Bhajji, etc.

 

Vespucci Beach: Pie Floaters, Chiko Rolls, and lager.

 

Maze Bank: Steak Sarnie, various pies (all of low quality)

 

Also i'm thinking we may include DRS anyway and forget about the BCCI and any indian player who wants to object to it, because in this game (as discussed) we cannot rely on the honour system and have no other choice.

 

We should be including various sledging and bonuses for it. If you are Australian and have a ridiculous moustache you should have +1 to unsettling opponents and causing them to leave the series early with clinical depression. If you are English your sledging will not be as good but the drunken Barmy Army will give you an advantage. If you are Indian everyone will be holding up Sachin Tendulkar signs even if he is not playing. Any thoughts? This obviously needs to be fleshed out more.

I have to say these are some of the best ideas I have ever heard.

 

For the sledging I propose you have a chance of being heard by the match officials depending on how loud/offensive your sledges are. The louder or more offensive the sledges are the greater the effect on opposition players but you will also run a higher risk of being caught. If your caught you will be fined a percentage of the pay out you get from completing the cricket job.

Crowd interaction having an effect is a great idea too. Be great having a beach ball being bounced around the crowd. Could have a bonus game for those in the crowd where you have to co operate to keep the beach ball away from a NPC security guard who tries to pop the ball. You could be rewarded RP for successfully starting a Mexican wave.

 

On the food side I think there's some real merit in your ideas. VB would probably be the best beer for Australia as it's crickets major sponsor. Rockstar would probably name it something generic like kangaroo lager. There could be a challenge when your team is flying to a ground to play a match to beat David boon's record of 52 beers on the flight.

 

Like the idea of bonuses based on appearance. Rockstar could release different hair styles and beards through a DLC. As well as Australian mustaches you could include crazy West Indian fast bowler hair cuts, extremely ugly wrap around sun glasses and the Monty panasar beard. Pads, helmets and other protective gear as clothing should also be included, but that goes without saying.

First photo is from outside, the second from inside the box. You will notice a shed below in the first picture. There is also a hanger out of shot to the right. All those saying that cricket isn't popular with the GTA player base probably don't think that vans are a popular vehicle online either. If you take the time to look, the threads that have had the most comments ever are:- this thread, the thread devoted to the BF surfer and a thread on how to boost RP on criminal records. I think it's more than a co-incidence that another beach themed van was introduced in the DLC and rockstar reduced the benefits from races to discourage boosting. I'm quite confident we will see cricket introduced very soon based on this pattern

As I said all you have to do is look at the comment counts to see it's pretty obvious rockstar is making changes to the game based on the popularity of threads on this forum (change to reduce race RP - most popular thread is one how to boost RP in criminal records, introduced new beach themed van - third most popular thread is BF surfer appreciation). Based on this pattern I think we can expect to see some cricket DLC, as this thread is the second most commented on in the online forum

Some really great content here. We can base the sledging mechanic off of the strip club touching mechanic in single player. You can verbally abuse players on the microphone and their disadvantage increases but if Aleem Dar hears you he will sanction you 25 percent of your match fee ($ and RP/JP in GTAO). For example if you tell a player to get ready for a broken f*cking arm, or verbally abuse an England player about having clinical depression, you will gain an advantage but if you get caught you will look bad.

 

If you punch an England batsmen in a bar and then grow a ridiculous moustache you will also have an advantage against them but risk a 25 percent match fee penalty, so it is sort of giving up a bit of reward for gaining an edge over your opponents.

 

I really love your idea about a West Indian fast bowler haircut, it could have a groove down it if really short or if we are going for the true Indo-Trinidadian look we can add the gelled Ravi Rampaul to GTA Online.

 

 

With that haircut and a 90MPH delivery I don't see how anyone would stand much of a chance. We can include the Monty Panesar beard, and also add a mechanic for urinating on bouncers after being ejected from the strip club for harassing the women too much. I'd really like to see a Merv Hughes mo added as well and the ability to take out insurance on it through Mors Mutual.

 

The more I see of your pics at Sandy Shores, the more I think it should be just mildly tweaked and turned into GTAO's main field/wicket. The hangar is perfect for drinking, urinating, and eating spicy snacks. The wicket should provide a bit of purchase for fast bowlers as well as turn for subcontinent style bowlers. The cracks in the dirt turf will add unpredictability. With a match official using hawkeye , snicko, and hotspot up in that tower surely we will get most decisions right.

 

For everyone calling this retarded and saying it is never going to happen i'd just suggest you move on. Many people like you have hated on many popular ideas over the years. For example, saying the world is round. You guys are the same who would be saying "Time and time again it has been proven that it is flat and you all are retarded."

 

There is no need to be upset that you see a good idea gaining momentum. If you don't like it , just step out of the way and let the majority who support it discuss it and move on. Lastly, i'd like to talk to Rockstar about paying Kookaburra just a small amount to license using their balls in this game. I think we can all agree that even though you get less overs out of it, it is a better ball and we do want reverse swing to be included in GTAO cricket.

But that is about the only argument those who are against implementing cricket have "f*ck Cricket, I don't personally like it" when hundreds of reasons on how it would improve online have been put forward in this thread. If you don't like this topic, that's fine, but there is no need for you to call for threads to be locked just because they don't interest you. If it doesn't interest you, you can always stay away.

 

Edit: Take a look at DMC14 for an example. This time yesterday DMC14 was in the same position as you are Steve, and was arguing against this feature. It seems DMC14 is mature enough to approach things with an open mind however and having thought about the issue it appears that they have re-considered and now support cricket. Maybe you should approach the topic with this level of maturity and consider things instead of just calling for a thread to be locked because it doesn't personally interest you.

But yeah cricket reeeeeally wouldn't fit in, but i would have a go.

I don't have any problems with cricket or a cricket game mode, but it's pretty obvious it won't be added to GTA V, at least not by Rockstar. Here's why:

 

1. The game takes place in Southern California, not Britain or India. Almost no one plays cricket in this part of the country, especially when there is a beach nearby. I live in SoCal, so take my word for it. They would add sports relative to the environment to enhance immersion, so volleyball, bowling, and ping pong are all likely to be added.

 

2. Why cricket? It's an odd sport in terms of popularity in North America, so there's no reason it should make an appearance in this America-esque video game. Basically the same reason as point 1.

 

3. There are no cricket/baseball fields anywhere on the map, and I doubt Rockstar would edit the map just for this one game mode. And don't say you can play cricket anywhere, because even though that may be true in real life, I doubt that would be true for this game.

 

The only realistic way of getting cricket into the game is if in a year or two Rockstar actually follows up on their statement that they might make additional maps for the game, with at least one of those maps being a Commonwealth-influenced country. In that case, cricket would be a sensible sport to add in place of, say, golf.

Why the fck would you resurrect such a terrible thread. Admiral i am most certain you are one of those dudes from Family Guy with the monacles and undescernable accents sipping tea like a true poof. People from North America have no idea how cricket is played or what the rules are...yet you think they will add it to a game about LA...moron. this thread makes me want to punch babies and I am sure someone has contracted aids as a direct result.
