Any new content is great, and i for once like cricket :) Used to play it with friends when i was young :D I'm half Norwegian and half Pakistani, so i know a lil bit about cricket, and i sure would play it online if i could :D

Well i support this idea, but there nothing i can do too contribute apart from supporting you from the shadows :3

@People who are saying GTA is american based game, so having cricket in GTA will be wrong. Let me tell you this, USA have cricket teams, and they do play cricket in USA, it's not famous or anything, and they only have a few cricket fields, but it doesn't change the fact that cricket still exist in the US

They'd mainly have to go with the majority.

I had never known that Cricket was played here in the US until @theadmiral said something.

I don't think it is wrong to add it, just the fact that the phrase "the majority rules", applies. The Majority of the GTAO community would probably not like Cricket to be put into the game. R* produces the game in America, automatically making us American players the majority of the matter. Before @theadmiral says something like,

I respectfully disagree.

I honestly think that with the Majority Rules standard applied, R* would listen to the MAJORITY. Not some 12 year olds wanting something that doesn't suit the average American lifestyle, WHICH, is what R* was sort of aiming for in GTA V.

A nice modern look at the American lifestyle in Hollywood.

On the other hand, I would love to see Cricket in another GTA game that uses the GTAO system.

Maybe R* will set the next GTA game in the UK or something.

We will have to find out in the next 5 years or so :)

Right, because liking something that isn't popular in America makes us 12 year olds. I thought you are a good person to talk to for your first couple of posts.

Not saying that you are 12 year olds. That would make me a 12 year old because I LOVE the idea of Cricket in a GTA game. Just not this one.

Would rather have basketball, and truthfully basketball should be in.

It's no offense to OP, but let's be honest. It's a San Andreas/ LA scene. Basketball would be alot more fitting. I realized the odds of street hockey ever making it in are pretty much slim to none. So..

Why do they call it cricket? If they were trying to impress people with the name of their sport, they have failed.

Hey admiral, I've been following this thread for awhile, and reading what you and El Tel have suggested have made me really love this idea for the game. As you may know, Im a South African international and I think I can help you guys make a few tweaks... only after I get back home to South Africa though!

Loving GTAO so far, I'd love to be in the Vinewood Cricket club with you brus. I would be a great fast bowler for you guys. Also, even though its off topic: the skateboarding idea thrown earlier was great!

PS I prefer a Kookaburra because of the bounce I get in subcontinent conditions

Great to see u hear, can't believe it's actually you?

One q, how did u feel when our boy Manzoor was blowing kisses to you earlier? I'm sure you enjoyed his knock ;)

Big fan of yours though, modern day great! although i hope we do beat you in the current test :p

Thanks for the kind words guys, I dont deserve this type of praise.. As for Manzoor, he had a great knock. We are all good friends off the ground and I have great respect for the Pakistanis, we are all used to these little things that happen in the game and can shake hands on it afterwards and put it behind us. Loving Abu Dhabi so far and I know you are hoping for a Pakistani win but you'll understand if im doing my best to not let that happen, regards, DS
PS admiral, I play on the PS3, send me a pm so we can sort this out and so I can play with your crew

I'm sure you all are good friends off the field, didn't think otherwise for a sec. We all like a bit of banter on the field. Without it, how boring it would be

Good luck for the rest of the tour and hopefully with your input/contacts along with thorpe we get this GTAO cricket to materialise. Whilst i type this DS picks up the last wkt of pak innings, finally we are bowled out :D

He did say he was going to do his best to make sure Pakistan didn't win, then he goes in and does just that... LOL... How perfect. #DSLegend

One thing we haven't really fleshed out yet for GTAO cricket is how injuries will work. I'm thinking that getting hit with a bouncer can definitely 'kill' you in some cases and send you out of the game to have to pay medical bills.

A poor catch should be able to result in a jammed finger that could make catching and bowling a problem for that player for the rest of the match.

If you don't stretch you can easily cramp up and collapse in game and your teammates will need to ice you down.

If you make the huge mistake of sticking your foot out to try to stop a ball that you cannot catch, you can risk a broken ankle or bruised foot.

I'll think a bit more on this and add more information when I have a better idea of the direction we want to go with the mechanics.

Buh-bye.

Can people please stop suggesting other sports in this thread - nobody here is advocating for one sport over the other, I think I can speak on behalf of everyone involved positively in this thread by saying we are totally supportive of ALL sports making their way into GTAO. This specific thread, however, is all about cricket. If you want to start a thread on whatever other sport you wish to be included, i'm sure we'll all check it out.

Also guys tennis is only for two people in cricket you can have 11 fielding and 2 batting so that's 13 + an umpire, leg umpire and match official so its exactly 16 just like GTA Online. So I really think this is a perfect fit and it would be rather simple to design too

Well in that case baseball is the same isn't it? With it being more fitted to the culture and given that MLB is also in US

Hi everybody,

First of all, I must say: I’m not from USA or UK. English is not my mother language so you guys may see spelling or grammar errors, and for that I apologize in advance.

Last night I finished to read all the 25 pages of this thread and felt the need to register on this forum to say: THEADMIRAL, I know what you´re trying to do here, mate (hope I can call you that): altruistically, create the most AWESOME DLC that R* could put in this game. I mean, I’m not a tech genius, but what R* need to do after all the brainstorm in this thread? Ctrl+C , Ctrl+V?

I´ll not lie: my #1 sport is ice hockey (Go Kings Go), but reading this thread I must say that I fall in love with Cricket to be my #2 sport!!! There´s no fight between players (I think I can live with that), but the idea of eating spicy foods, drinking beers and urinating in the ball proves that you need big cojones to play this game!

To end this post, getting too long already, I would like to contribute with 1 idea:

– Tryouts for the Vinewood C.C.: I mean, I really want to make part (hopefully) of this Club, but I know that I´m not too familiarized with the game (yet). This project is huge, lot of players all around the world will be trying to join. Just in this thread there´s 2 pro committed already, for God’s sake!!! Each player needs to fight for your spot in the VCC! And those who didn´t make it can run water onto the field (brilliant idea!) till he earns his place on the team!

I´ll be following this thread very closely, my friend! Very closely! See you!

It's ok we are already used to that type of idiot in this thread , one more childish person won't bring down this idea .

Since jack had mentioned tryouts I'm going to flesh out all the mechanics for this today and update this thread with the systems I plan to use tonight .

One other thing besides bringing water on, someone has to buy the beer and spicy Indian finger foods, so new players will be responsible to bring this stuff to the game .

Fair!

Do you think that demanding that the players take a shower (already in the game) before buying the food is a little too much?

We all know that´s almost impossible to be in Los Santos and not be shot by others players, but I think someone with bloodstains carrying the food to the game would be a little immersion breaking!

Hi guys, I spent the entire day thinking about how to implement the tryouts system that JackCanCook came up with and I think I've done a fairly decent job but this is all open to debate and discussion. I think that when Cricket comes to GTAO, any player can show up for a casual match, but if you want to get into some of the crews that are focused on playing competitive cricket, you will need to earn your place in the first XI since there are only 11 places for grabs. It's not exactly fair, but these tough decisions will need to be made.

Bowlers:

When analyzing a new bowler, i'm going to look at a number of things, some within the bowlers control, some not. Is this bowler a fast bowler, a leg spinner, or an off-spinner? Is he right handed or left handed? Does the Vinewood Cricket Club already have an abundance of one type of bowler? These factors are beyond the players control but will play a part in any decision a captain makes.

Fast Bowlers: Are you physically fit? Can you fit enough to handle a pace bowlers long, vigorous run up and are you capable of doing this for multiple overs without injuring yourself?

Can you bowl all lengths, from Yorker to bouncer?

126813.jpg

2986497600_094d1af543.jpg

Spin Bowlers: Pace is not so important here but i'd like to see good turn on the ball regardless of pitch conditions. I'd also like to see if you have any extra balls in your repertoire (Googly, wrong'un or a top spinner for a leg spinner, or a doosra for an offspinner?

_41002445_off_break_doosra_416.gif

For all bowlers:

Can you bowl an entire over without conceding a wide ball?

_49736882_anderson.jpg

Can you bowl an entire over without conceding a no ball? All cricketers know matches are often won or lost on the extras so this is a crucially important step. If you take wickets but concede 20 wides in a match it is unacceptable.

Waqar-Surprised-on-Amir%E2%80%99s-No-Bal

If you can do all of these things, chances are you a perfect bowler for the Vinewood Cricket Club in GTAO. If you cant, you are still welcome to join the team and we will actively practice with you and get you to the level you need to be at to be in our starting 11, but the number one rule is to take responsibility for your own development. I don't want this to be too long of a post so I will update with my section for batsmen , and also my section for fielders in a short while.

For the batsmen, we're going to look at a number of things as well.

First and foremost, footwork. Cricket is all about footwork and the knees and i'm going to look for batsmen who have a proper stance and know how and when to step out on the line of the ball without leaving their crease and becoming exposed to an unscrupulous wicketkeeper throwing down the stumps.

Muralitharan_bowling_to_Adam_Gilchrist.j

I'm also going to look for a batsman who knows how to take guard properly and also how to address the umpire in a respectful manner in these circumstances. "Leg please, sir."

54750786_copy.jpg

Even though in real life, teams are separated by gender, we'll be allowing all genders to compete on the same team in GTAO cricket because it is more fair this way and because i'm somewhat biased on the matter, so male or female will not be an issue at all and we'll throw realism out the window in this one case.

chic-bat.jpg

Beyond this, we already fleshed out the shots we are going to allow in GTAO: All of them. I'll be wanting to make sure that any given batsmen can play a forward defensive, pull, hook, sweep, and is also intelligent at knowing when to leave the ball and not play it at all. I'll include a few pictures for example since I know some people here are new to the game.

Forward Defensive:

Jonathan_Trott.jpg

Pull shot:

76733.jpg

A leave:

Cody-Chetty-Leaves-121018G300.jpg

And above all else : ATTITUDE. We'll only have room for 6 or 7 specialist batsmen in our side and some people will not make the cut, so attitude as well as ability will play into this.

For now, VCC enrollment is open to all since we only have 2 members, but we will be up to 3 when Dale Steyn gets back to South Africa and joins the crew (Dale I sent you an invite BTW).. But once we get more members we'll be holding bi weekly practice sessions and will have the vice captain and captain select the squads for the weekend, so if you are not picked the first time, do not discouraged and keep working hard.

I'll update this one final time with my guide for fielder tryouts when I get a chance.

For fielding practice/tryouts in GTA Online we will start off by vigorous stretching because this is the way to prevent injures. After that we'll all line up , using hands outward on either side to determine distance from the other. One person will hit balls randomly at the line and it's up to the people there to catch the ball with TWO HANDS using proper form and to dive for the catch if necessary ensuring proper hand position so the ball does not touch the ground.

ASDA-Fielding-Practice.jpg

After this we'll turn the line verticle and push it much further out and practice long catches, 1 man at a time, where the ball is hit far into the air and the guy must run and catch it.

For the Vinewood Cricket Club (Other clubs can make their own rules) I'll want you to identify where you think your strongest position is and we'll determine who is going in the slips and who is going deep.

3856515897_31f57dfaa5_o.jpg

Pakistan-fielder-Mohammad-Hafeez-catches

You will also be able to partner up and do whatever you want with your friends as simple drills. The key here is to put in 100 percent effort , know how to dive, catch safely, and drop as few catches as possible.

paksafield670afp.jpg

I must stress that while we're looking for competent fielding from all of our members in GTA Online you must identify yourself as a specialist batsman or bowler to make our team.

Please provide any constructive feedback on the three tryout sections I've updated today hopefully Thorpedo and SteynGun can add some more drills that maybe I don't know about.
