I agree with what someone else said, need more water sports... maybe Parasailing would have been fun.
Use the lasso from Red dead, attatch to a boat while using a parachute and be able to shoot boats durring missions.. haha

I'd rather see baseball (biased as it is my favorite sport) and basketball before they add in any other sport. Baseball i can see why they cant due to the amount of players needed, but basketball? come on you can play anywhere from solo, 1v1,2v2, etc. it seems perfect for online IMO

Cricket isn't for everyone I understand that you might not like it but as you can see from this thread the mechanics are all already in the game so it wouldn't hurt you any. Just like if you don't enjoy parachute missions, you don't have to do them. There is really no reason to keep it out

Love this thread, admiral and el tel are my new favourite posters. It's great how people keep chiming in with cricket sucks, honestly guys watch some T20 cricket to ease you in and you'd love it like we do. They even have commercial breaks every few minutes just like US sports so you don't have to concentrate for too long.

Ok enough debating the validity of cricket as a sport, it is the worlds second most popular sport and here to stay so that is not up for debate.

 

Back to in game mechanics for GTA Online Cricket,

 

Do you guys think bouncers should cause damage if you get hit in the ribs over and over or even in the head? Such as missing a pull shot or mistiming it, or leaving a ball that's heading right at you. I think if you take a few of these you may need to get pulled out of the attack in game and get reduced to 50 percent health to account for the bruised ribs or concussion from the head shot.

Another superb idea. It could be nice if the injuries casued less accuracy and strength to the batsman and if he keeps taking damage, then he (or her) would be forced to retire.

I like the sound of this, except of course the 'boring,' part.

 

It could even be that you have to react faster in your swing because your reaction time is "dulled" by the loss of focus. We all know when you get hit with a bouncer you think another one is coming so it takes you longer to play the right shot since you are preoccupied.

 

And I would pay 24.99 for that DLC but I'd really want some detail put into the spicy foods

 

Another idea would be to add a sky sports feed into the in game television so we can watch matches in game and also we could watch other players playing the game from our safehouses.

 

One of the best ideas yet. How did we take 5 pages to think of that? It seems so obvious. For 24.99 I would want a lot of choice between different Indian foods with varying levels of spice that could have interesting effects on your character such as more visible sweat and perhaps even a cutscene of your character drinking lots of lager to cool his mouth and rushing to the toilet when he has overdone it.

 

You all do realize this is a joke, right? This whole thread is 11 pages of satire, isn't it? I refuse to accept that people are dumb enough to believe that Rockstar would add in a niche sport with maybe a hundred players in all of real life LA. Anyone who thinks that adding in a mini game of strategically eating spicy food is of... subpar intelligence, I suppose.

Well, just read through this thread and I have to say, it's pretty obvious that this will never come to GTA in a million years. Some avid Cricket fans are clearly desperate for it but even they must know deep down it won't happen. Several reason why.

 

 

Well if you go on what is most American obviously cricket doesn't fit but this is a game for the whole world and if you take worldwide supporters Football (Soccer) and Cricket are easily the #1 sports in the world

 

You really can't use that as a reason! The majority of cricket playing nations are the kind that will no doubt have very low GTAV sales (Pakistan, India, Kenya? [lol]), the only 2 which probably have a massive number of GTA players are England and Australia, and even then Cricket is only the 8th most played sport in England and 7th in Australia. Since the majority of GTA is made up of Americans and other non-cricket playing nations it REALLY wouldn't be "for the whole world", not by a longshot.

 

Reading through all these ideas the game seems to be massively reliant on everyone using a headset, I don't think you realise how many players don't use headsets, most lobbies I'm in I'll be lucky to see more than 2 or 3 guys on headsets while the other 10+ haven't. Then you have the issue of getting 16 players who are up for a game, I struggle to see half full lobbies for races/deathmatches, what makes you think Cricket will be popular enough to gain 16 players at a time, especially when you've already excluded the 70% of players who don't use headsets, how many of the remaining 30% will be interested in Cricket or even know how to play?

 

The reason darts is in the game is probably because it is incredibly basic and straight-forward, I guess the reason tennis and golf are in is because a lot of GTA takes place amongst the rich folks scene, whom those sports are very popular with, add to that there is something about tennis and golf games that people find very addictive (hence the ever popular Tiger Woods PGA tour, and the countless tennis games which come out every year). I couldn't name you 1 cricket game and I've been playing video games since I was a little kid.

 

 

Dozens of people have commented on this thread, I can count the number who genuinely think this is a good idea on 1 hand, the rest are almost all TOTALLY against the idea. And obviously the people who like Cricket would have commented whereas most of the people against wouldn't have even bothered commenting. So even still, the already overwhelming ratio here of against:for is way more generous than it even should be.

I don't see why not? We don't shoot cops in the head either but we do that in GTA. It's just a fantasy game and it would be fun so we shouldn't let realism get in the way. Tennis isn't exactly popular either

Not that I condone this but, Theres more people who shoot cops in the head a day in America than there are people that play cricket in America.

I know but this game isn't made for Americans even though it is set there. I mean why not just ban everyone from outside the US from playing it if its supposed to be like a real America.... Just because the game is set in LA doesn't mean we have to exclude every other world culture from the development of the game... And as I said, i'll wager more people in LA Play cricket than run triathalons, just dip into the indian and Pakistani expat community and it's huge even in the united states trust me.

 

I wouldn't know if people in LA play more cricket then run triathlons but I would bet on triathlons...never seen a televised game of cricket but have see triathlons on the tv guide all the time. Mate its not popular in the US with white americans but Indians, Pakistanis, Brits, and people from the Caribbean Islands all play it every weekend in every major city in the country you just need to open your eyes. America isn't all about white americans anymore.

 

I live in St. Louis which might not be the biggest but it is a Major City and I have never seen a game of cricket break out in a park EVER.....not once in my whole life, Nor do they sell cricket paraphernalia in any of the sporting goods stores. I'm not trying to down talk or talk sh*t on your sport of choice, I just don't think it would make sence in GTA which is based on an American city and based on American things. Now I leave this topic with a big "GO CARDINALS" that's my town's MLB team in the playoffs now for the eleventh time in 14 years.

I was just thinking about another cool minigame for when a batsmen hits a half century or a ton and the crowd applauds, the batter must face each section of the crowd and raise his bat in the allotted amount of time to gain a RP/JP bonus and if he fails to do this or do it well he may be branded as a poor sport and lumped with other bad cricketers (chuckers, tamperers, stuart broads, etc)
