You should be able to get extra swing on your deliveries depending on the humidity

Brilliant mate we didn't discuss the different conditions possible, in the summer Los Santos is more like sub continent conditions but in the winter it's more like UK conditions... I'm going to think over this one and try to work out a mechanic for selecting conditions that will please everyone, we don't want to exclude swing or spin bowlers based on weather

Do we get a car key to check how deep the cracks on the wicket are?

You do get that but if you are playing at one of the low level pitches with a bad umpire he might allow play to carry on anyway and then these cracks can be exploited by any crafty bowler of west indian heritage, we decided on having the umpire, leg umpire, and match official all played by players so the three of them will talk it out on a private voice chat and then inform the captains of their decision.

With fast bowling these cracks can be dangerous b/c the ball could unexpectedly pitch at a batsman so we'll need to factor in safety

I AM SORRY ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE VIDEO, BUT MY WEBCAM IS ABSOLUTELY RUBBISH.

Cricket is the silliest sport in existence and only England, Australia and India actively play it. Besides, no one on the face of the earth knows how to play that weird sport. Gimme baseball, rugby, basketball or football anytime.

South Africa, west indies, Pakistan, Ireland, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, Afghanistan

And all of us here know how to play it, not sure why you don't but it's much simpler than any of the sports you mentioned mate

The batsman intimidation mechanic sounds like it could be great. Fast bowlers with a skill of 80/100 or over could choose to take extra long run-ups which would fill the gauge even more on top of the taunts and once over a certain point, this could have a negative effect on the batsmans stats. Maybe after a whole over of fast bowls and no runs, the crowd could start to bang drums and taunt the batsman as well. Of course, players from the Windies should get a bonus to this.

If you get a Nelson you've got a 25 percent chance of being out on your next ball no matter what you do.

I've been putting some more thought into allowing you to model your player off the style of a specific umpire for when you are playing as a match official.

For example Billy Bowden has access to unorthodox umpiring signals and is generally a bit more of a character.

billy_bowden__cricket_umpire__crazy_look

But if you play as say Darrel Hair you have an automatic racial bias against non white players and have a +25 bonus to giving a dubious LBW to anyone from India

I'd deffo model my umpiring on Dickie Bird's, no doubt about it.

Would there be any room for a commentary box? don't forget the score board which could play like a mini game where you have to pull the right rope in order to get the score to tick over and update the over count and so on?

Another idea I'd like to see for character customization is the use of zinc in bright weather. This could reduce glare for fielders when catching and could lead to some imaginative designs by people who play GTA. We already have a makeup mechanic so this is another thing that is easily incorporated into the game.

While my team bats do we have to decide who fills in the scorebook so that we have a record of everything?

We do have room for a commentary box. Now that you mention it we'll need to include two scoring mini games - 1 simpler game for the scoreboard operator where you pull ropes at the appropriate time and are awarded cash and JP for not making mistakes - Jump the gun and the Umpire calls it 1 run short but you've already pulled the rope and you are in big trouble.

And once you rank up enough in that we move on to the official scorekeeper duty, which will unlock around level 20, and you can fill out this sheet while watching the game

ScoreSheetAltonvLymoFielding.jpg

As for adding zinc and other accessories I think it is a total must. As any aussie cricketer will tell you skin cancer is no joke and we have to put safety first when we implement cricket even in an environment such as GTA Online. Rockstar will be accountable to the MCC and the laws of the spirit of the game.

I may have already mentioned this but on top of zinc we definitely need the option or unlock to have a big red stripe down our test trousers and we should also be able to customize our bats with tape and other stuff.

And similar to the ball tampering mechanic we already discussed you can try to smuggle in tape that will fool hawkeye and hotspot but if your captain or umpire catches you (Like the guard with the stripper) you will be ejected.

Actually I made a mistake, one player from each team will have to fill out that book and after each over you have to yell to the other guy on your headset to make sure the scores match up and if not you have to argue with him via ball by ball account of the last over until you agree

All great ideas and fully implementable I reckon.

Is there any plan to include practice nets for the tail end batsmen to practice in whilst the innings is on-going?

Link to comment

The nicest facilities will have practice nets but at most matches the way i'm thinking of it you will have a guy standing like 3 feet away throwing the ball at you while you practice your forward defensive when you are the next batter in line. If you hit the ball too hard and it enters the field of play you are risking verbal abuse from the players or even the umpire, so you have to make sure you use really soft hands on the left d pad or you risk real embarrassment

I think the batsmen waiting their turn will probably be too busy with the Indian food minigame but a practice area might be nice.

Yeah, GTA Online is all about freedom to do what you want with your friends and that includes in a cricket game. If you are the type that prefers to warm up doing forward defensives or shadow shots then you are free to do that.

You are also free to chain smoke and stuff yourself with samosas while already padded up and ready to go in

Open world games are really great because they allow choices like this.

I like the idea of the bravado, spiciness, and stamina meters and you'll get to pick from a variety of indian foods such as samosa, onion bhajji, pakoras, vadas, jalebis, and et cetera and each one has pros and cons and a different dollar cost. For example if you eat too many samosas you will suffer a penalty if you have to run between the wickets a lot, so for a precision hands player it might not be good. But if you are a big guy who hits sixes all day it's fine to go in loaded up on Samosas.

Indeed. Just like how players who chain smoke will not be able to make runs as quickly, but don't become intimidated as easily because they don't care what others think. The trade offs in this game really allow for diverse ways of playing.

I think character creation should allow you to select a nationality to gain extra perks. Australians will be able to drink more beer to cool off their mouth from spicy food without getting drunk. British will be better at cleaning the ball but suffer a penalty when the sun is out. What other ideas do you have for other nationalities?

have we considered the post match end game; the one where the 2 captains have to down a pint by bashing X (on xbox) then sprint 10 yards to a single stump by hitting A, then spin around it 10 times with your forehead on the top using B and the winner is the one who doesn't fall over when trying to sprint back to the start by smashing A?

This would be a great pre-urinating on the field minigame.

I see no reason why we couldn't pick a nationality in chargen like you suggested.

South African: +10 to batting, but 10 percent chance of winding up playing for England after any fallout with your teammates or coaching staff

Sri Lankan: Extra five degrees of arm bending/straightening allowed during bowling, no penalties

Indian: Excessive appealing will not get you sent off unless its against Darrel Hair, also +10 to conning an LBW

Pakistan: +10 to all match fixing attempts and +25 percent payout on a successful fix. Often victims of run out and poor LBWS

For a post match end game I was thinking that everyone has to fist fight and the losers have to cover the pitch and pick up the marking cones and boundary rope but we could fit in a voting screen so we can choose from various end games like the pint drinking shuttle run you mentioned, i'd love to give that a whirl. Can see using both joysticks to keep yourself "steady" otherwise you fall down dizzy!

They could borrow the mechanic from Fight Night Round 2 for both of those.

The limits are endless with cricket to be honest, not like boring bloody baseball and American Football (the "ball" isn't even round so technically cannot be called a ball and it barely touches anyone's feet so in no way can it be called football).

They should also have a discount and lower level requirements to unlock and buy equipment from the Pakistani equipment suppliers. But should suffer a penalty when consuming Indian food due to the feud between the two nations.

These should also have a very high tollerance for spicy food, allowing them to fill their Bravado gauge easily. But the suffer from high prices and unlock levels for equipment due to said feud.

Excellent idea, Indians also immune to stomach trouble from the food that can impact English players and Aussies to a lesser extent, and they naturally will be ripped off by about ten percent when purchasing a bat from a Pakistani homeowners garage. A Pakistani will naturally get a 10 percent discount at the equipment dealer too.

One other thing I am considering is that all players have to pay a few dollars per piece of finger food, but Indians could get this totally free by virtue of having their wife supply the food - It could even be that having an Indian in your squad gets a certain number of free samosas that all players can enjoy. Ill think on this some more

Just remembered we'll need to factor in the Aussie/New Zealand rivalry via game mechanics also and South Africa vs Zimbabwe. I guess every team is going to need a specified rival.

It would be good if this spilled over onto the streets. Walking around wearing the Australian colours should lead to people in English colours making remarks behind the players back such as:

*COUGH, COUGH* "The Ashes," *COUGH, COUGH* "3-0," *COUGH, COUGH*

This could be apdated depending on results and could cause Cricket fuled, gang violence on the streets. Every gang could support their own team. You might even have to be careful driving through certain areas due to the increased risk of people playing Cricket in the street not moving for you or gangs of Indian children running up to your car and banging on the bodywork, forcing you to visit a car wash to remove the curry stains. Scary stuff.

I can totally see having crews and areas of Los Santos dedicated to various teams and nationalities and its fine if you want to walk around in your baggy green but it could be just like walking into the Baller's territory wearing all green. A few comments and if you bump into anyone or pull a gun out everyone lights you up.

I could also see NPCs wearing the same kit as you opening fire on anyone attacking you sort of like allies.

And we should definitely be able to specify what the interior of our car smells like and take measures to counteract it.

If I make a cricket themed crew will any of you guys join it? I think you can be in more than one crew
