Loss of character. Where's the backup?

Several people lost their characters. I devoted myself particularly those 5 days to get to level 35, starting tomorrow I can only play for a short time.

I've only actually been able to play for 2 of those days- the first two I couldn't get past the tutorial and all today I've been unable to sue to them deleting my character. It's not like it's that unreasonable to have a client-side backup, considering they had it in GTA IV and RDR...

ya so we're just really waiting for R* to say this cannot happen again then we remake characters... or you remake your character now and risk it through these tough times.

Although I've lost three characters, Rockstar Social Club still shows my cumulative RP, as well as everything I've won and lost. My guess is that they will eventually figure out which characters were lost and give the lost RP and money to your current main character. Just a guess though.

Why didnt they just let you save on your hard drive a long with the cloud. That way if anything happens (like it has and will most likely happen again) then you have that save on your hard drive then sync it with the cloud when it is working. Or does that make too much sense?

Another update from Rockstar (from today):

 

"We are continuing to investigate the causes of the lost progress and what can be done to minimize the impact until a permanent fix is in place. Also, we have not forgotten about the requests for restoration. We are in the process of determining the options for addressing the issues for those players who have been affected.
