Is character loss the main remaining problem?

If so, its time for me to start playing I think. Since I understand the main causes of character loss (I hope).

 

If you go to play and cloud servers are down your character will appear to be lost but it isn't, you just can't see it right now. Do not create a new character in the same slot or you will lose the one you had.

 

If you play while the cloud is down, nothing you do will count. Next time you play your character/progress will be gone because it was only a temporary character. It never truly existed.

 

Some sort of synchronisation between HD and cloud would help with a lot of this but I believe they're focussed on cloud only saves to try and minimise hack-based cheating.

That is the only problem with this game.

 

Other than that I was having some of the best gaming experiences last night and the day before when my lvl 39 still had all its cool stuff.

Pretty much the main problem at the moment, yes.

 

If you don't want to lose progress along the way, don't make a character yet. Those things you posted still don't prevent your character from being deleted. Seemed to work for a few people, but not everybody.

Game's top notch AAA as far as I'm concerned. The character wipes are the major 800 pound gorilla problem absolutely. Losing a character is the most basic and complete loss there is.

 

After that, there's serious tweaks needed, but the very foundation is uncertain at this point.

My main problem is that I'm losing progress. Got to rank 23 with 400k last night and logged on today with rank 19 with 139k. Two-three times before that I worked from 100k to 200k and lost that. I'm making sure it saves and even restarting my console and it's fine, but after a few hours my stuff is gone.

How am I supposed to know if I'm playing while "the cloud" is down? And if the cloud was down, how would I even play?

Sweet, thanks guys/gals. I'll only get short stints so there won't be much progress to lose....I just want to avoid staring at the tutorial race loading screen for an hour.

The main remaining problem is often online tends to sh*t out on you or freezing, as well as char deletion.

Guess that doesn't matter either. The chance of total character deletion is still present. Happened to me today, along with thousands others. If you have not started playing online, I wouldn't start untill there is some guarantee you won't lose it all. I did nothing wrong, made sure everything was saved two days ago, now everything is gone.

So if you don't want your character deleted don't make a new one? can i just say that's complete sh*t because i made only one character, got him to 13, had some decent cash in the bank, had a nice car in my garage, yesterday its all gone, on the rockstar social club site it shows 0 character.

 

so in other words, all that time and effort put into online mode and for what? jack f*cking sh*t.

It's the biggest, but GTA Online has a slew of issues. Much of which is terrible design.

my friend just lost his rank 75 guy.. Rockstar better be able to give him another dude that high since he has achvs. to prove he was that high..

Matchmaking timing out for several hours a day is quite a big one, too. Of course none of that matters if you don't have a character in the first place.

They are at least aware now and working on it, check the update from 1 hour ago, but this should have been their priority for Update 2.0 to be honest. For me yes it is the main problem, but to be fair I haven't even got that far to see any other problems the highest I have got is 20+ before poof.

it is the main problem aside from boosters which I mean come on they found a way past the patch to boost. never lost my character but I have lost some small amounts of cash no more than 10K so im good.

boosting meaning the 9k mission or actually spending hours grinding racing to lvl up? if you dont play 8 hrs a day, then dont complain.

The character deletion is a huge problem. Most people could live with the occasional timeout or game freeze but to put hours and hours into a charcter to lose it is the biggest problem. R* does need to fix this issue before any other IMO.

I know it feels like that's gonna help, but be prepared for some bitter dissapointment in the event your character is actually gone.

By "Don't play" I mean create a new character once the problem is fixed.

How can you lose a character without even playing? He meant dont play as in don't create a character at all
