Getting worried about losing my character :(

I am currently level 45 with over a million dollars and have been playing pretty much non stop. Haven't had many issues except the servers going down and losing an apartment once.

 

(Anyone who posts "bullsh*t" etc can add me on xbox - "GTA CreatureUK" and check)

 

 

All I keep seeing and hearing about is people losing characters. Not just the fact they are gone for a while but actually deleted.

 

I make sure before going off I click on "Leave GTA Online" and if the server does start messing around I just come off for a few hours as I have noticed when the servers start not working things you do don't save

 

 

I am very worried my character is going to be deleted. I am always checking social club to make sure my character is still there if the server crashes, I never start the game with a temporary character. Just playing the game with the one character.

 

Most my friends have had their character deleted too but they have then made a new one which has resulted in them over writing their last character because the servers were down.

 

Is there anyone else who is worried about their character being deleted or has everybody lost their character at some point?

Lvl 41 here, have never lost my character, but i did just lose my first car.

I bought a Vacca today for 240.000 and it was delivered to my garage, i drove around, joined some lobbies, but when i came back at some point, it was nowhere to be found. So yea.. not too happy about that, made a ticket.

Which is my first actual ingame problem with gta, besides the fact that my mechanic never answers his phone anymore and my utilities have been shut down and I can't seem to find a way to pay that bill '-.-

Updated 10/6/13: We are continuing to investigate the causes of the lost progress and what can be done to minimize the impact until a permanent fix is in place. Also, we have not forgotten about the requests for restoration. We are in the process of determining the options for addressing the issues for those players who have been affected. Been playing since day two or three. Didn't lose anything. I always revert back to single player prior to quitting, so that might be why.

I started GTAO and my character was there except his image. I chose him and it went to new character, most social stats wiped.

I'm a level 52 or so with two fully souped up sports cars and I almost have enough for a better apartment. I'm pretty worried about it too, honestly. But, as you do I always take the proper pre-cautions and exit the game correctly, play for at least 20 minutes or more after purchasing anything just in case it doesn't save ect. It's one thing to lose a few hours of progress, but straight up losing your character is pretty worrying.

 

Also, judging by how often this is happening and how many posts there have been recently, i'd say it's only a matter of time/chance until it happens, I hope they patch this issue soon.

I have located the problem in my garage, it just didn't save. It's like it restored to some kind of back up. I deleted my izzi from my garage for another car and then i bought that vacca. The vacca is gone, an empty spot has taken it's place and the izzi somehow made it back into the garage... lolz...

i lost my level 34 today with the 400k apartment. i was trying to invite some friends to a mission and none of them could get in. after that my character was gone.

Good online games always seem to suffer from character/data loss issues, I knew this would be an issue eventually. I'm always on edge when going to the character select screen.

it would be great if that was the only issue, but I got stuck during the loading screen after a mission. I was looking at the clouds for a loooong time. Heh... clouds... I think Rockstar is mocking us with these.

i always go into story mode when i start up, then make sure my character is in the wheel before signing in, if it's blank press start and go fool around in the menus that have to do with GTA:O and it usually kicks in my character on the wheel, then i sign in. when i get off i always go to single player first, have had a few instances when i've had to hard reset which always scares me.

 

lost two comets, once i joined a game while i was inside the pay n spray and all ten cars from my garage vanished, the second was random. i won't buy any cars for the time being so i'm modding the fusilade

And when the hell is someone supposed to know when it's fixed? R* blows ass with communication. You can defend R* all you want, but denying that would be b.s.

 

Wouldn't the one patch that said "Most issues are taken care of" be hinting that it's okay to play? I mean, when are people supposed to know? It's stable one second, then totally falls apart the next. It's like a kid who made a broken slide for you to get on. It broke down before, but he "repaired" it.

 

You get on, trusting the person, you slide down only for it to crash on you, and you start from the bottom again, losing progress.

That would make complete sense because if it freezes during saving it is corrupting the save file which can then delete itself. If anyone has ever accidentally turned off their xbox while a game saves (on any game) and had the problem where you can't get back on that save because it's corrupted

Unless it keeps saving constantly, but if it would then we wouldn't lose the characters like this. And I'd also think that they would do some backups, or have a few saved games for one account.

Exactly.

I mean... I've studied Networking for a year and one of the first topics we had was about backing up the data, so it's pretty much the most basic thing you have to think about when planning a network.
