Updated 10/6/13: We are continuing to investigate the causes of the lost progress and what can be done to minimize the impact until a permanent fix is in place. Also, we have not forgotten about the requests for restoration. We are in the process of determining the options for addressing the issues for those players who have been affected. Update:

 

Updated 6PM ET 10/6/13: We experienced some instability on PlayStation 3 around 11:00 AM ET and service was restored at 12:30 PM ET. Another issue was seen on both platforms just before 4:00 PM ET and was resolved shortly after. We have not forgotten about players who reported (and who continue to report) issues with lost characters, items, apartments, cars, or in-game money. 7 days to fix a damn save file... and still no clear answer. It`s beginning to be slightly annoying at this point.

That's because they have to avoid saying things they aren't 110% sure about because people take everything as a promise

kinda feel a bit better that i mite get my 40lvl char back, im not restarting , funny thing is i really carefull and switch single player to save, and when i try to go and it says cloud is down i always say no and go back to single player till its up, still lost it.

RDR had the character information saved client-side, I don't see what's so wrong about it that they couldn't do it for GTA:O. If they can release another update to allow that, it'd probably fix these issues. (Speaking of which, how incompetent does a company have to be to need to release two updates within a week?)

Their update makes me worried they're still not sure what the exact issue is.. Hopefully this isn't gonna take many more days :/

If they were to give details and a time and for some reason weren't able to reach it then these forums would go up in even more flames. let them work on it without bitching

Honestly, I do feel way better when Rockstar updates us like that. It calms me down and lets me know they are working on it.

 

I used to play League of Legends, and that was something RIOT was always good at. They would have someone spend 2 minutes to quickly update everyone on their Announcement page and everyone would feel better. They did this constantly.

 

I mean, what effort does it take to have someone just go on their twitter or Support page really quick, login, and type "We are doing x and x, and looking into x and such. Currently, there are issues with x and y also, and we're looking into this as well. Stay tuned"

Clearly they don't know what's wrong or how long it's going to take to fIx. Even if they did know approx how long, I don't blame them for not saying because if it takes them 2 minutes longer than the estimate, people would still throw tantrums.

Same sh*t different day. They can stick their updates up their arses at this point. They're completely clueless and will never restore anyone's progress or characters.

The thing with bugs and issues are, you don't always know how long it'll take until you actually find each issue. There is no point in says '2 days' or '3 days' because it could become '4 days' and then you have people going OMG THEY SAID IT WOULD BE TODAY!!!! I R GONNA DIE.

 

That's why you don't get time estimates from game companies anymore, unless it's at least in the test stage.

It'll be out as soon as it's ready.

 

Anyway, the most important thing in that update was they showed restoration was something they're seriously looking at (rather than ignoring it, like most companies would).

Actually they kind of did at the very beginning. They said the reason characters were suddenly missing was because the cloud server you are connected to hasn't been fully synced with your progress and that trying later your character should be there.

 

What i think is causing characters to get removed completely is that the system is not syncing properly, so instead of the server that has your characters syncing onto the server that doesn't, it syncs the server without your characters onto the one that does which is causing your progress to get removed completely. There is that, and the fact that you may very well be connecting to the server that doesn't have your characters yet making it appear they are gone when in reality they are not, and the mistake some people are making is starting a new character and with it being the newest one for that slot it causes your real character to get removed.

 

I could be completely wrong, but that seems the most logical explanation for the issue.

If i worked for Rockstar i wouldn't give a time/ date on a definitive fix either. Saying "Oh this will be solved fully by Tuesday" Then not having it solved, would create even more backlash.

It makes me feel a little better, but still people will be progressing along in the game ahead of me. It's going to feel a quite unfair being so many hours behind in progress and experience compared to everyone who hasn't been affected. Even more so if my character can't be saved.

 

I've barely been able to get on since it was release as it is, and when I do, crap like this happens. Microsoft must be thanking their lucky stars that GTA5 was delayed for so long. If this fantastic advertisement for cloud gaming had happened before E3, there'd be absolutely no Xbox One pre-orders.
