killahmatic
V. Why? Because most of my favorite features/vehicles of past GTA's have been brought back & made better than ever. I wont judge others who liked San Andreas more, but for me its more than obvious which game is better. NYC PATROL
It's definitely my favorite GTA to date. However it also has the most bugs I've ever experienced in any GTA. Which is a shame. I have a major car spawning bug in my two SP campaign saves.(Same type of cars keep spawning over and over) And then the GTA O issues (character disappearance, things not saving etc.) It really is unfortunate this game is having all these problems BUT when all is working well it really is a great piece of work. So much detail. Edited October 7, 2013 by NYC PATROL Jacob-B
BMW Sterling
I would have to say GTA 5 is the best one in my opinion. The online has its problems but give it a couple weeks until everything is straightened out. But in my opinion, yes GTA 5 is the best. It has the most problems but it so has the most positives. Jacob-B
1. San Andreas Based off nostalgia alone, it's my favorite, i just have too many fond memories with it, I've put more hours into San Andreas than any other video game. 2. GTA V I'd probably say GTA V is the BEST GTA game to date, it takes all the features from previous GTA's and even previous Rockstar titles like Red Dead Redemption and Max Payne 3 and expands on them, i get the online is being absolutely horrendous but when ever Rockstar get's it to work, i'll be ecstatic, GTA V is GOTY 3. Vice City Vice City was the first GTA, I've played and it took me a while to actually complete it because i was very young, I haven't played Vice City in years and would love to play it again and i'm hoping for the next GTA that Rockstar will make it in Vice City. 4. GTA IV Oh how i remember the hype for GTA IV like it was just yesterday, I understand all the criticism that GTA IV gets but i love the gritty dark feeling and story, Niko is one of the best protagonists and his story is phenomenal 5. GTA III I might get flack for posting GTA 3 so low but i still f*cking love it, it was difficult as hell and took me forever to complete but boy did i feel accomplished when i finally did! This game redefined the open world genre.
brothan323
GTA V and like most of the world thinks, it's the BEST GAME of all time. What other game provides this type of experience at this scale? And with a captivating story to go along with it. What other game provides you this freedom and in such a detailed and rich environment? $1 billion in sales, nothing to discuss. lots more games, and they do it better....you are the biggest fanyboy on this site. And sales mean JACK f*ckING sh*t, rhianna has sold more albums then led zeppelin. By your logic rhianna is MUCH more talented than led zeppelin....your a f*cking tool kid ps san andreas is the best and will always be the best Edited October 7, 2013 by brothan323
ArcherTheGreat
In my opinion there's no point in comparing the different games other than in terms of misc content such as customization and properties and pastime activties etc. They're all different in their own ways. GTA III was an introduction to the criminal theme that the series would come to be recognized as, GTA Vice City aimed to bring back the 80's vibe, delivered flawlessly by a fictional Miami and era-appropriate situations such as drug trafficking. GTA San Andreas was heavily focused on the ghetto life, the gang life etc. and thus brought us the city of Los Santos in 1992 and with San Fierro and Las Venturas as bonuses to end off that generation of consoles. The activities in SA were very time-appropriate too, such as low-riders, rampant gang wars, and the 1992 riots. GTA IV did something different, and followed the perception of a newcomer to the USA. Niko's an immigrant haunted by his past life as a mercenary and is viewing Liberty City (New York) as a likely place to prosper. The way the game portrayed New York makes us see the city in Niko's eyes... Not a prospering city of business and trade, but rather an underbelly of satirical capitalism and criminal underworlds. In that sense, the game is a milestone in the series journey despite its lack of extra content GTA V, I'm still exploring, there's so much stuff to do. It's all based on money and nothing but money, so everything in the game will be tied to it.
Proletariat
GTA Vice City. Can't f*ck with that bitches. Ok maybe GTA V can. But definitely not GTA SA.

golf wang
Right now, it's a toss up between San Andreas and V for me. Honestly, GTA V is the BEST game I've played in years. I just love everything about it! I was so surprised when I saw so much criticism on this site (a supposed "fan" site), because the game is truly an amazing piece of work. The map is awesome, huge, and extremely detailed and diverse with plenty of things going on. I also love the new mechanics and UI (better shooting, driving, flying, weapon wheel, etc). The only things San Andreas has over V (in my opinion) are the soundtrack, the flamethrower and chainsaw, and maybe the storyline. GTA V is just such a huge and diverse game. I could be scuba diving one minute, then mountain biking, then having a shootout with the Ballas in Davis, and then golfing in Rockford Hills! It also has great car customization, random events, a great selection of clothing, scuba diving, and a SUBMARINE . To properly to say GTA V is the best GTA I've played though will take a few years. While I am certain it will stand the test of time, I think I need a few years to really decide if it's the best GTA I've played.
White Hot Speed
V. SA was only more fun to me because I was a kid then. All games were more fun as a kid. Now SA is just nostalgia. If I had to choose between the two, SA wouldn't stand a chance.

Algonquin Assassin
GTA IV. I was playing it yesterday and despite GTA V looking better there's just something about GTA IV I love and I knew it wasn't going to be gone with GTA V being the newest GTA. Unlike some people I like that it's barebones and concentrates on essentials than just having features for the sake of having them. Also Niko will never be topped in my eyes. GTA V is next and VC to round out my top three. SA can fight it out with the stories GTAs for the minor positions for all I care.

redx165
Favorite: GTA SA: Why? When I first played this game I was blow a way. Fun missions, LOTS of content, 3 CITIES, Lots of guns, better gunplay then III and VC. This is one of the few games I put the most time playing. Second Favorite: GTA III: This is the game I fell in love with. If it wasn't for GTA III I wouldn't even be playing GTA. One of the best games ever made. Cops were a challenge. This is tied with GTA V Second Favorite: GTA V: Way better controls, the world is beautiful but I feel its lacking a bigger town. Countryside seems pointless to go out after beating the story. Fun missions. The MP seems fun. The problem with this game are the cops. They are annoying, they need the spawning patch. Helicopters spawn way too fast. The other problem is the online issue. Losing money, characters, and stats.
TheWarzoneXL
GTA IV because of the story and the characters. Still love GTA V though.
stockwiz
So what's are people's favorite game of the modern era? For me it's skyrim for PC since the modding community is so big and has done so much.. almost bigger than the game itself. The very first time I played san andreas I went and got all my gang territory upgraded not knowing that it would be lost and I'd be kicked into the countryside and betrayed.. I remember being irritated when that happened... but I love that game. Have not played V yet so I cannot make a statement.
shawt22
Looks like i'm the only one, but my favorite is GTA III. Why? I guess it's because it"s the first open world game I played, and it set the standards for open world games.
sivaG
Haven't played V yet(PC Gamer). I would say IV is the best GTA I've ever played because I love the gritty nature of Liberty City and it is the first GTA to be set in an HD universe. DatDudeDB
GTA V The characters are actually interesting, the 3 character switch is genius, the world of los santos is beautifully detailed, gta online is fun, just alot good going for it. JonnJonnz
GTA San Andreas -Storyline and characters that you really felt attached to -Content -Map -Radio Stations GTA V could be the best GTA ever but they cut a lot of content from SP to create GTA online which is a major letdown. Games like GTA were much better when online multiplayer wasn't around
-inVADER-
It is still Vice City for me. Here is why : * Vice City itself. The city looked stunning, the atmosphere was amazing. It felt so good to just be there, especially at night. The dangerous areas were indeed dangerous, there were random, crazy gun battles in the streets in wars between rival gangs. * Tommy Vercetti was a brilliant protagonist. He had such a ruthless character combined with a murderous instinct, no-nonsense attitude and some dark humor. Other supporting characters were epic and memorable also. * The storyline was excellent. There was not one part of the storyline that was boring, too long and drawn-out. I was gripped from the beginning to the end. The missions were just pure fun and fireworks, and that final showdown at the mansion was the perfect end to such a great story. * The theme was great too. Rising to the top of the VC underworld felt so good, I really felt like I was the supreme crime boss of the city. The drug business, Hispanic drug cartels, Mafia, gangs, shady businessmen, corrupt politicians, and gang wars all added greatly to it, it was perfect GTA material. * I loved the huge variety of gameplay. You could buy and own business and properties, make money from them, you could rob stores for money, and still do other stuff like assassinations, minor side activities and side missions. Plus there was that major bank job too. No other GTA has yet to offer such a wide variety of stuff like that relative to it's size like Vice City. 1:Vice City for me too . No one can beat Tommy Vercetti coolness. I think even Rockstar can't realise ,what they achieved with creating this character ! 2:IV is close second. 3:III . 4:V end San Andreas make the bottom. vivalavendredi
Slowthrill
1. Gta5 Best game ever of the series. With a very good story, and 3 protagonists. Very awesome physics and perfect tweaking of euphoria engine.. Massive improved audio and Nice choice of musical exp.. Insane feeling of a vibrant living city, with yr moves in the story intervening deep into normal los Santos. And then throw everything fans liked alot from the onder series and voilà gta 5! 2. Gta Back in the floppy 386 days this game made my whole school talk for the first time in history the Same way about smth new unknown. I mean, people made money by copying this weird unknown game on floppy's like crazy, asking 5 euro per game and selling more then a thousand copys in 3 days.... Crazy stuff. And it kept yelling me back to my dads pc.. Even though i was a KID playing outside every day... Best nostalgic game ever, still now! 3. Vice city The story did it for me and all the movies woven into the story, city... My 3 most favourite movies are scarface, carlitos way and donnie brasco. I never knew that combining these and rockstars mind could give such a brilliant pièce of gaming.. And it proves to me that they are as much of an al pacino fan as me, brilliant! vivalavendredi
GTA: Vice City - It's set in the 80s. I grew up in the 80s. I love the 80s. - It features music from the 80s - Nightlife - Lots of new features and vehicles - if not the most, when compared to it's predecessor - Great story - Funny characters - Did I mention that it's set in the 80s? Listed best to worst GTA so far (in it's time!): - VC - IV (plus EFLC) - III - V - SA Edited October 7, 2013 by vivalavendredi

King Kapone
Vice City will most likely never be topped for me personally. Everything about it was just perfect. Story, characters, music, environment, everything. GTA 3 is a very close second with that said and while San Andreas was great fun, I did have a blast playing IV. Liberty City fully realized in HD was something to truly behold. Maybe it's because I'm from the NY area originally but I had experiences playing IV that I just haven't had in V. Maybe I'm growing out of GTA?
