Rockstars Official Post on loss of characters and data, finally..

Anyone have a idea if it's even possible for R* to restore characters?

 

Some people claim R* told them on the phone that they're "working on it".

 

I'm guessing they can't, they just know that damn near everyone will abandon the game the moment they say that.

I still have my save from yesterday and everything works smooth as a whistle for me, I'm on ps3 though, I think Xbox might be having these issues a lot now for some reason

Not even close to the biggest game ever. Maybe in terms of sales but for things to do its not at all .

 

Either way , no response from R* for 8 hours now. Not impressed in the slightest bit. At least they said they are trying to restore lost money , levels and characters. I'm sure i'd have passed lvl 37 by now but screw that ill wait for them to fix this non sense. Even though games for gold sucks nuts I've been playing this new game they gave us for free ...Clash of heros, its not too bad. The bf4 beta sucks dong on console and the pc version is completely packed so I cant even find a game.

I just don't get it. I mean if you've been playing with your character for days, then all of a sudden the game freezes or its stuck loading or whatever, you have no choice but to reboot. Of course it wouldn't save any recent changes but you still have the last save. Why the f*ck does it not load it from the last save? I've lost 4 characters already, spent literally all afternoon and night yesterday leveling up my 4th character, I get on today and all seems good. Took a nap this afternoon, wake up and my character has gone for a motherf*cking stroll to neverland. f*ck this sh*t man!

 

Last night was the best night I had on GTA:O

Had a great time with my friends and the lobbies and matches were actually full of people. Only to have it all gone the very next day, again, for the 4th time.

I feel ur pain.... the same thing just happened to me 2 hrs ago.... but luckily its my first time.

If Rockstar uses incremental backups, yes.

If rockstar uses split volume raids (yes, but they wouldnt do the work)

If neither of those, they could individually modify each save back to its original place (but they'll never do that either because they couldn't give a single f*ck)

This is what I see when I go to my account on Social Club. Some progress was saved like my money spent, total races and deathmatches, but that's it. Everything else is missing.

It is possible to restore our characters but they'd have to do a server roll back which could lose a lot of people progress as well.

yeah...i couldn't be more annoyed with rockstar right now. what a failure of a launch.

 

Even the Story mode was broken, and they never released a Day 1 patch like most companies do. When I say story mode was broken, I mean, cars disappear in garages and you can't save them. So i Never even bothered with the cool modding and saving cars stuff.

The comment from Rockstar is mildly comforting, if only because they seem to be making a nebulous suggestion that lost progress may be restored in "the future". Better than nothing, I guess.

 

I ended up losing an 80k apartment, but my progress has luckily otherwise been unscathed (knock on wood). To think some folks have lost much more, I can imagine the frustration. But I think we can at least take comfort in knowing that Rockstar is aware that the issue has a very real impact on the bottom line, profit. To build the MP game design around "persistence" and progression, only to have progression vanish seemingly at random; is a situation which is going to crush their pay to play angle if it isn't dealt with swiftly.

 

That this game hasn't been abandoned en masse is a testament to the quality of most of what's in the GTAV package. If this were a lesser game it'd be dead on arrival. But make no mistake that customer loyalty carefully earned over the last 15 years or so is hemorrhaging at the moment.

 

For the record, I do not intend to purchase anything in game of value (apartments, vehicles, etc) until the pay for funny money scheme goes live. Not because I intend to purchase GTA$ (I don't), but because I think it will represent the most meaningful sign that Rockstar has achieved confidence in their back end.

Posted in another thread but i'll repost it here.

 

I restarted my xbox and went to single player.

Sat there for a moment and the orange ring came up (Loading you profile stats or some sh*t)

Pushed down on the D-Pad - My character appeared after about a second.

Didn't want to select it in case my rank was reset, so I went to the Character selection first to verify it was all there.

When I loaded the character menu, it was gone again.

5 days is a life time in online launch terms. Also, Rockstar delayed this launch a week or two, they would have had the sale figures by then and would have been fully aware that their servers could not handle it, so why didn't they delay it again?

 

I think people are right to bitch and moan, and Rockstar rightfully deserve a lot of flak.

UPDATE JUST Came out i downloaded it played then my game was lagging then i lost conection i got back it sed rockstar servers down so i sed great this again finaly it worked take note i was lv 12 i looked at my charceters they where gone so itryed again then it sed i had one my old one it was 12 like i sed then it sed i was 1 so i went to the game thinking it was mess up but it sed i was 1 so maybe its a good idea to f*cking fix that sugstion dont lose connection mite happen to u to so be carfull happy gta v playing see u later and f*cking fix that rockstar

mmm coming from a guy named smoke dat.... yeah, were the kids. You're not whoopin anything first off and secondly if you got your sh*t erased you'd be pissed too. Dont act like youd just brush it off.. Goto work for weeks straight, get a day off and spend it playing a wicked game. Then have it all disappear. Stop talking like an idiot. They had 2 weeks to test this. They didnt. Not even a beta for Collector edition people or anything. Its their fault and they know it. Depending on how long it will take to get things working again they might have to cancel servers because people wont stick around for long.

 

Exactly. Defiance was a great game. But it didnt work and how many people are playing that now ? A thousand? maybe. What about the best FPS to date... Homefront. Servers sucked dong so bad everyone left it. It would have been THQs saving grace if they didnt f*ck it up so bad.

But there is no reason for itis what most are trying to get at. It's not like this is their first time making a multiplayer game, look at RDR, that was successful. All they had to do for this was set it up so millions of little pricks can play along with the other few thousand of us. Lol
