Question: My online character, rank, items, apartments, and/or cash are suddenly missing. How can I get them back?

Answer: We have received reports from some players who experienced losing characters, progress, items, and/or in-game cash during the first few days after release. We are working diligently to identify and correct the causes for these losses, as well as to establish how best to restore any lost progress and value. If you would like to receive an automatic email notification as soon as there is more information about this, please log into the Support Site and click Subscribe at the top of this page. You do not need to do anything else, and you can continue playing in the meantime.

Note: When the Rockstar Cloud Services are unavailable, you are given the option to still play online on disc-based content (rather than R* Cloud content). You are asked to confirm before entering Multiplayer whether you would like to play on a temporary character, without the ability to save. If you confirm this option, please note that none of your old characters will be available for that play session, and the temporary character you create will not be saved. If you want to make sure the characters you create are saved, you should not proceed into GTA Online when the R* Cloud Servers are unavailable. Even if the services come back up while you are playing on a temporary character, that temporary character will not save -- you would need to return to Single Player and re-enter GTA Online to load your non-temporary characters and resume playing with the ability to save progress.

Note: When exiting GTA Online, please pause the game and choose to return to Single Player. This will trigger a save and ensure that progress since the last auto-save is recorded. If you purchase items and immediately power the console off or exit through console system menus, those items may not be saved.

Except that that's a load of crap, because I lost my characters when my game was turned off. Haven't created any "temporary" characters - if I get a Cloud offline message, I just back the f*ck up,.

 

Oh and I did that whole "Force a save" sh*t before I switched off for the night. It's also pile of crap.

Rockstar has become teetered dangerously on the edge of falling into the mud with EA on this one.

 

My character is gone, he was on the social page, then I refresh..gone now.

 

Now I can connect and I'd have to make a new character, since my pal is gone.

This is the 3rd time i lost my Character,

 

LVL 17 and loads of $$$$ and a nice apartment GONE!

 

I'm not feeling in a good mood right now either.

 

I also never got any message saying the severs are down or Auto save won't work etc.

 

It took me ages non-stop to get to that LVL and now i'm have to start from square 1 again?

 

If they can't get this backup system to work, Then i'm not setting a foot on GTAOnline again. Sick of working hard on something for hours and then losing it because of the crappy severs.

Their cloud servers should be Rockstar's main priority. I just lost my rank 8 character and $78,000. I'm not that pissed, but it's still bitter.

 

Should I make a new character or is there a changes it might come back?

I emailed GTA Online (as you all should) that for this extremely poor MP launch that everyone who has lost something should be compensated once the servers are in order and everyone should get a free money pack of at least 50,000 or so to make up for 90% of the player base losing something and losing emotional time and even possibly causing bodily harm after such events take place in the real world.

 

I recommend that everyone partition to the email that every player regardless of any ocassion should be entitled a free cash pack (possibly one free purchase on the DLC section for the buyable currency).

How could they have properly tested it? This was the biggest game release EVER, it was unprecedented, they're charting new waters, give it a few days.

Some people claim R* told them on the phone that they're "working on it".

 

I'm guessing they can't, they just know that damn near everyone will abandon the game the moment they say that.

Well, I've been playing it all night with a couple of friends, it's awesome, you're constantly getting new stuff thrown at you, there's so much going on, just be patient, biggest game EVER remember.
