Player highlighted in red?

While I was playing last night I noticed a player on the minimap that was highlighted in red, like your friends are in blue. I'm not sure what that means, was he a target of some sort? Also, is there an easy way to run through different coop missions with the same group? It seems like the playslist options are all competitive and you can't choose coop ones unless you back out to free roam and invite people individually. Am I missing something there?
