Car impound broken ?

Are the gates at the car impound supposed to open ? Because everytime I try and get my car back I have to jump over a fence, except when i'm in my car the gates won't open and I can't get it out. Surely i'm not expected to lift it out with a heli...?

Yeah but the gates won't open when I turn up and they won't open when I try and drive out with the car. The only way for me is to heli lift it out.

Yeah dude you have to steal it. They won't open the gates for you... Except when you're leaving for some reason.

This might sound stupid but did you try to put the car really close to the gates? Also did u try both of them?

Try killing the guard if you havnt done so. I used the gate near the guard station.

Yeah, you just have to pull really close to the gate from the inside. It'll open.

if you steal your car back the gates do open they just take a few seconds

yea they only open when you try to leave, but mine took like a min to open so I ended up getting four stars, luckily it opened before I died and I managed to get away.

I drove close enough to the gates that I was practically touching them, that didn't work so I rammed into them. I tried for like 2 or 3 minutes on 4 different times and they wouldn't open on the way out.

Restarted the game and it's working fine now... weird, must be a bug.

The gates won't open, best way imo is to park a car or get one of your mates to park near a pillar of the gates and jump over that way, waiting for the guard to go through the door opening is better yet. Gates will open from the inside mind you.

this. When I first had to steal it back the gate didn't open untill i about rammed into it. I nearly died

Well, we do have an influx of new players thanks to GTA V being free on the Epic Store so necroing threads from 2013 or 2014 whose info is still relevant today can be useful.
