Meh... I never attack people 1st. Im usually passive. But I love people that attack me... It can lead to hours of mindless fun.

 

Passive mode or solo works fine for dealing with unwanted pests tho...

I disagree. Freemode is not deathmatch. We have deathmatches for that.

 

If you're one of the people running around shooting every random player you find - YOU'RE THE PROBLEM. Don't assume everyone wants to play that way.

Yeah, the only way to play online is an invite-only session. You can still race, deathmatch, etc., with other players, but you avoid the thing where a bunch of douchebags want to turn every session into a deathmatch with a really big map.

 

I think the white dots showing where everyone is completely ruin online free-roam. It's not even worth bothering with.

I got killed by some dumbass twice during the tutorial while the game was still trying to put me on the map. You know, the feature in SP when you switch characters and the camera view zooms out to a Google Maps type of thing?

Some douche killed me twice. I was irritated as hell. Obviously, he was already loaded up before me.

 

I'm going to go ahead and try this method, OP. I'll just invite a friend and we'll mess around in free roam while occasionally doing death matches, races and missions on the side.

Honestly just ride in the best free-roam vehicle the fully modded entity the scope of auto-aim is so small for the entity, +bullet proof back and it has awesome acceleration and probably the fastest car in the game

OT: The chaotic randomness that is free roam is where all the fun lies. You make money and level so you can use it in free roam. WTF else would be the point of an online game if it wasn't about mixing it up with everyone in a completely open arena. ITS THE ESSENCE OF GTA PEOPLE. But if you can't handle getting trolled... well then hide in an invite only corner and buy all the clothes you want.

I always start out just like the OP says, but I alternate my characters so I can sell two cars per hour, and each time I swap characters, it drops me into a free-roam sh*thole, no choice -- another piece of crap game logic that would be so simple to fix, but I think Rockstar is trying to encourage free-roam f*ckups as opposed to people playing in their own private server.

 

I could always do the extra two steps of returning to SP and then back to Invite-Only on my new character, but in fact I have gotten used to taking a look at the usual free-roam stupidity and confirming that it is still a sh*thole, which indeed it is. Typically, the way I know that the character swap session has begun, is that I hear the tank explosions and I hear a couple of seconds of racist profanity on the voice chat, while still coming down from the skyview. If I don't hear those things, I check to see if the TV audio is muted.

I got tank griefed for the first time the other day and it only happened because I tried to take him out, got killed around 11 times. Its not hard to avoid getting grieved, all you have to do is stay away from them.

I have never joined or started a private lobby, I like the excitement and unpredictability of public freeroam. Never know what might happen, and it keeps me on my feet. Don't have a crew to back me up, nor do I want/need one, no tank to call. I ask guestions first and shoot later, and I'm rated a clean player.

 

Come on guys freeroam is not bad at all, in fact there are even many deacent and kind players around. Sure, there will be a$$hole griefers around but I've had epic revenge battles that are truely memorable, and I would defo not give all that up for a lonely private lobby

Griefers are as much part of the game as the normal, civilised people. I don't grief, but without them there wouldn't be any worthwhile chases.
