GTA Online has a terrible community so far

I'll just put in my 2 cents here - If you're running around freemode and shooting up random people, just for fun... then you just don't get it.

 

Freemode is NOT a deathmatch! We have DEATHMATCHES for that!!

 

Should you be able to attck someone who's done something to you? Of course! It's GTA! But should that give you permission to just open fire on anyone you see? Maybe, but that's a very douche-baggy thing to do. If you go on your "rampage" in SP, you're only affecting yourself. NPC's don't care. But if you're attacking random players for no reason (players who may very well be doing something else, and have NO INTEREST in participating in your little impromptu deathmatch), you're directly affecting the enjoyment of their game. Especially becasue of the insane $2000 per death hospital bill. Some people have limited time to play these games. Losing a bunch of money everytime, because little Johnny is bored and decided to camp spawn points is not very fun.

 

It's bullying. Period. Whether it's done in the real world, or in the virtual one, it's still bullying. The fact that some people resort to it immediately as soon as they're protected by internet "anonymity" is very telling or who they are as human beings. That some people actually ENJOY the fact that they're causing others stress and frustration (as many have stated here) should be an indication to them that they have some very serious personality problems, that extend beyond videogames (Google "sociopath").

free roam is only really fun with friends, ideally a large enough group to piss off the little gangsta wannabes. There's a rare diamond out there tho, /I have made a couple of new friends, people with the crazy idea that working together thru jobs/missions is more fun than treating the game like it's just a very large deathmatch map.

 

The idiots are seen in abundance with their sarcastic resonses to this and other threads, 'People killing n GTA what a shock' type crap, as if GTA didnt have a sh*t load of other stuff to do apart from simply pouncing on people who were trying to do other stuff, i guess actual deathmatches are too f*ckin hard to organise for these morons.

 

Hopefully the bad sport thang will weed these dumb f*cks out, but I wouldn't hold out much hope, my plan is to mainly play with friends only, occasionaly I'll dip into public games, but mostly i'll leave the asocial f*ckwits to themselves.

I had one kid try to run me over, ignoring him I got in my car and tried to leave and he runs into me and TRIES to shoot me. Finally had enough and one-bombed him in the head. I play to do missions and have fun. I am much more interested in co-op than a constant Los Santos County sized death match map. However, I am reasonable and can understand how others might enjoy the rampage and don't fault them for it. So I think the community is going to be naturally split into those who enjoy the game the way I do and those who don't. Thing is, those who play as I do aren't a bother to those who like the carnage, but the reverse is not the case. I think (and hope) R* is aware of this and eventually implements an option that divides players into servers based on how they want to play, similar to how WoW servers are catagorized as PvP or PvE. You should be able to choose every time you go on line and be able to switch at will. I think this would make it a non-issue.

I find it funny about the people trying to target me saying "then go play in your own match and stop crying." If I'm not wrong didn't rockstar have big hopes that the community of GTAO would be some bad and some good and it would be a completely persistent world that you live in? They tried to capture a living breathing online world and community what kind of community is a bunch of douche bags who go around killing as if its death match just because they have the option. People are blocking stores and trying to kill you from inside, or prevent you from enjoying the game. why should I play alone or with friends, that means I'm turning my back on the community which is one of the reasons there are so many GTA Haters growing is because of the people they meet. Creating a massacre thats unplayable isnt fun. Its ruing public matches for me. why cant some people kill every now and then and their actions be varied why does it have to be a 16 player death match in ever server? To anyone that supports that idea I hope you realize you are ruining the community and many other players, I imagine the best gta online players are in private matches because of this and that limits a fun online experience where everyone just sticks in their own groups.

I just avoid the people being dicks or I lure them into a position that makes them easy to kill. Trust me, most people in this game are stupid. If they come after you in a car, go around the corner and get a shotgun ready. They will crash into the corner, trying to hit you and you can just kill them with a shotgun, costing them a nice $2000 every time they fail. If you want a break from the majority of people, the countryside (close to Paleto Bay) is usually dead.

I don't even try to play online. To me it feels like you get punished for actually trying to play any game mode apart from races.

 

Every time you die you lose money, so what's the point of playing with people who want to kill you? I'm just playing through the story in a closed session until i have enough money to buy the things i want. Once I've got everything i want to buy i can head online and actually play with other people without having to fear losing my hard earned cash.

Yeah, as a part time grifer I agree that this is a bit shallow. I hate getting out of a series of missions with a group especially a death match and then the players all spawn in the same area and start taking shots at you.

 

I mean I love a good shoot out and car chase as much as the next bloke but there needs to be a grace period so people can get their affairs in order before being subject to an attack.

I didn't think I'd ever see the day where players complain about killing or being killed in a GRAND THEFT AUTO game. Are you all serious? People too worried about saving their poxy money to buy pointless apartments, just have fun and kill people back, you never know you might actually have fun. I don't personally set out to hunt people down and kill them, but if I get close to someone I'll usually have a go, as 9 times out of 10 they'll only try to get you first anyway. I end up having more fun getting a mini-battle going against some random guy than holding up the same stores 100 times or whatever, and you can always 'escape' and join a race/deathmatch or whatever you like.

1. Victims of bullies at school are FAR more likely to turn into bullies themselves.

2. People who genuinely feel good about themselves don't need to validate their existence with a pseudo life in which they can be 'dominant'

3. Players with genuine skill or desire to attain skill will be found in organised/arranged deathmatches where opponents are prepared for the fact that someone is gonna be shooting at them, there's NO skil involved in following someone into a clothes shop and killing them while they're in a menu.

4. People aren't complaining about being killed in a deathmatch or similar, they're complainin cos no-life wannabes with wannabe gangsta complex who lack the game skill to do well in DM, and the social skills to actually make friends are validating themselves with the cheap 'thrill' of killing someone busy doing something else.

5. Only a complete f*ckin retard would think the typical griefing behaviours actually make them someone to be reckoned with or feared. It makes you a pain in the arse, nothing more.

The thing I hated about GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption is they both had terrible communities unless you met some nice folks on forums or already had friends before playing. Basically every session I have ever joined has been non-stop killing, and I fall short as one of the victims. Rockstar Failed with passive mode as I thought they would as players can still kill you by blowing you up and running you over not to mention you lose $2000 every time they do kill you. So you know what I've been doing? Private matches. Yeah, just me and my friends not losing money or worrying about trust issues. Player rep doesnt even help. Basically everyones a bad sport. I even did a mission with some folks and after it was over they all started killing eachother. I would've loved a better MMO approach with larger player counts in more friendlier, social-type dedicated servers. But for me at least, my imperssion on the GTAO community is terrible, I can't trust anyone, I dont even wanna risk making friends besides the ones I already have. I wonder what others think of the people they've met. So what's your impression on the community?

A lot of the "getting killed by players" can be easily prevented.

 

It's called AWARENESS.

 

If you see a random only a couple blocks away, it may not be a good idea to rob a store.

 

Go into DEFENSIVE mode the moment you feel in danger. ALWAYS keep a look-out for randoms and you should be fine.

 

I love the online community so far, I feel like the players with mics are usually pretty chill and easily to make friends with. I haven't had anyone turn on me yet. The silent players are casuals who are probably in a party chat and can't be trusted. I've never encountered any issues that annoyed me, because if someone actually gets a chance to kill me, I turn around and kill them over and over until they quit. Which has happened several times.
