I only really kill players in self defense, a few times I've shot first because they were following me, whether they intended to kill me or not I'll never know. When I kill them in defense I shoot out all four tires on their car and just drive off, it's pretty satisfying and I don't get labeled as a bad sport. Plus it can be a pain to find specific cars at times and I wouldn't want mine being blown up after I spent 2 hours trying to find it with the same cars spawning everywhere error.

 

The only thing that bugs me is that you can't play with your friends because that's kind of messed up, are they at least able to invite you manually? If they can't then it's kind of punishing them as well as you and that's over the line in my opinion. Public free roam I can understand, but private matches it should be up to the host.

The ones oyu get bad rep for are insured anyway, so what's the matter? If you find a car on the streets and drive around with it and it's a rare vehicle. Different story, but: You don't get bad sport for that, so I really don't know what all the fuss is about. Sometimes people will even get the insurance paid by the guy who destroyed it.

I'm actually not entirely sure as of yet. I read it as two real life days, but that seems somewhat excessive. Hard to say.

I'm not sure how I feel about bad sport. on one hand, this isn't GTA 4 where you basically start over in every mp game, you have assets that can be destroyed and you lose money with each death. On the other hand, this is GTA... nuff said

This is in need of desperate revision. Fair enough if you're just a regular player, but when someone puts a bounty on your head it should be disabled for that specific person IMO. It makes hunting down bounties in a fighter jet almost impossible if they're in their personal vehicles; I always end up destroying their car, collecting the bounty and consequently getting the bad sport warning from the overpowered jet bullets...

i dont know all the details but I can agree with you there. This game is practically a beta, it is massive and will need many revisions and tweaks to make it perfect, and theyve patched twice already. Expect many more. I have faith in rockstar but its gonna take a while. If they label you first time maybe thats a bit extreme anyone would agree, accidents happen. but if you are doing it constantly I think its awesome you get labeled and dumped in with others just like you. Its not like you cant play anymore, you just gotta play with people just like you, haha, enjoy!

I spent time in GTAV prison myself. I personally got a 2 day ban (real life days not game days) from playing with any friends. I cannot invite them to my lobby, they cannot invite me to theirs. We cannot play missions with non bad-sports, we cannot join private games. You are limited EXCLUSIVELY to playing with other bad sports for two days and are completely unable to play with your friends.

 

I have mixed emotions about this feature and would like to express the following to R* games:

PROS:
-Bad sports are punished for bad behavior

-Punishment doesn't limit their ability to play the game, but is definitely effective and gets the point across

-It's funny, and the Dunce cap really adds to the humor/humiliation

 

CONS:

-You designed a game thats all about robbing and killing people. People die easily and sticky bombs, explosive rockets and grenades are not necessary to kill people... they ARE however necessary to destroy vehicles, which I presume was the intent in adding them into the game. Why, then, punish players for using sticky bombs to blow up a car (their intended use)?

-You cannot tell what is a persons personal car unless it has a noticably pimped out look, so you may be guilty of this 'crime' unintentionally

-There is no 'compliment' button. I found a punch/shoot/'jerk off'/toss grenade and blow sh*t up button, but I can't find the compliment and Care Bear button. So why exactly are we being punished for being 'dicks'?

 

BIGGEST CON:

-This makes no sense. If a "bad sport" was designed for people who are being deliberate jerks, and consistently get reported by other players this would make sense. I don't even understand anybody in the forum considering it a 'dick move' to blow up someone's personal car. So you call Mors Mutual Insurance company and get a new one for $1k. BIG DEAL. Why is that a bannable offense? If you're that big of a wuss about it, leave your car in your garage... otherwise don't come crying to me that you played a violent online game with other violent online players and got a car blown up that cost you next to nothing to get back. The whole point of implementing the insurance company was so that this sort of behavior wouldn't be a big deal, so why punish people for it?

OPTIONAL FIXES:

-Make the bad sport lobby for players who are consistently reported for bad behavior

-Dramatically lower the amount of time spent in the lobby to an hour or two.

-Remove the ability to get your car back via Mors Mutual Insurance, so that you actually feel justified for being in GTAV prison (doing 2 days of hard time because someone had to call the insurance company feels like a major over-reaction, I'd like to know they have to spend 2 days earning another super car)

-Remove the bad sport lobby all together, and just give players a dunce cap for being a bad sport

I like the pro/con post above, but I think you mean Mors Mutual Insurance, Merryweather is the security company, that actually, you can call in the protect/escort/evacuate your player from hostile territory(havent tried it, dont know how fast of a response time you'll get)

Now I could have been a good little free roamer, tooted my horn and helped him get away, but he might have killed me, or worse, got in and changed the radio. So I crouched behind my car and shotgunned him in the face as he walked out the door. Much more fun.

does this happen to you if you blow up one guys car? I can agree that might be a bit extreme because although cars are nearly impossible to destroy unless you are trying to do so I would find it reasonable to give you one free chance and only punish if you did it twice in a 24 or 48 hour period or something like that. Then the casual dick gets away with it once in a while, but the griefer moron gets punished like he deserves. I wouldnt say the game is designed around robbing and killing people. while its certainly a viable option its not the core focus of the game, the core focus seems to be teamwork, working together to accomplish missions and gain more RP points however it appears you need a crew because random players in this game are retarded and dont join mission sessions or if they do they leave after one which fair enough i guess considering how little is explained to you in this beta game as you first start playing it and you want to drive around and see whats up but i wanna make money so I can buy a damn garage and no one joins or sticks around and what you can do solo is very limited so far, im lvl 9. Money rolls in slow. It may not be true but I heard that the longer the same group of people play together the more rp points or whatever you get and the faster you rank up. I havent been able to test it cause no one sticks around usually for more than 2 or 3 but it seems accurate. Playing together is essential and there are all types of missions, races, same side, or teams against other teams or deathmatch where you can kill to your hearts content without fear of punishment. If you think the main purpose of this game is to run around free roam killing people and blowing up their cars then its my opinion that you are very much mistaken and are missing the point of the game. Its far more in depth than that, and sure thats possible and some might argue fun for a minute, but its certainly not the point. And its not much fun either if you are a lvl 20 picking on a guy just starting and if such is the case you should be punished for being a dick. I think 2 days is reasonable because if it was 2 hours no one would care, log off go eat a twinkie and spank your 12 year old pud and come back and kill some more guys, lol! It has to be an attention getting punishment to curb such behavior. They could have special lobbies that people who wanna just run around killing each other in free roam instead of doing the missions and deathmatches cooperativly can join that disable the punishment feature, if you join that lobby its game on because everyone wants to cause a little mayhem now and then and its cool when your looking for it and expecting it and playing with like minded people vs just some dude thinking its funny to wax noobs over and over. I dont think there should ever be the possibility to be really 100% safe but there are those types of people out there too that just want to be friendly and play the game cooperativly without having to constantly worry about getting killed in free roam.

 

Its pretty clear this game is pretty much in beta stage and there is much balancing and fine tuning to be done, plus lots of content coming that we can only speculate about. Im guessing in a month or two its going to change radically. Right now its so new and there isnt much to do yet and its utter chaos, people are just running around exploring, killing each other and generally screwing off. Its very hard for me to find random players who are intelligent enough to join missions and progress through them to make more and more money and RP points. I think a large decent reliable crew is essential if you wanna do lots of missions with reliable people to go after ranking up and cash to buy stuff. Free roam money opportunities are pretty weak compared to the outrageous prices everything costs and you can rob every store 30 times before you can afford to buy a garage/apartment, lol! Plus you need the RP to unlock stuff so if working with the same people for 20 missions in a row helps you get it faster that dinking around in free roam then thats my goal. You have interesting points, but again you shouldn't be joining a GTAV online lobby with 15 other free-thinking players. If you want to be 'safe from death' you should probably just go back to the story mode and play single player. The whole point in multi player in games like this is the free-will aspect to do what you please. That is the point of the game. They have missions, which you can cooperate on, OR sabotage other people's efforts at robbing stores etc. The free will aspect is the point of the game, the missions are there to stimulate activity.

 

Yet again, I have to mention that the thinking that its 'bad behavior' to blow up a meaningless car is just a sensitive way to looking at online play. If you get your feelings hurt over losing a car that literally takes 30 seconds to replace you should probably stick with Lego Batman Adventures. Grand Theft Auto by its very nature implies a certain level of violent behavior and complaining about it is irony at its finest.

 

Just play the game more realistically. If you want to dig around on the cell phone internet, don't stand in an intersection in town 2 blocks from 3 other players to do it. If you were a wanted criminal in real life you wouldn't do that, so don't do it in the game. Just use common sense to avoid death. Although I don't know why you'd join an online lobby to follow traffic laws, wave at friendly passers by and avoid danger.

Its like Need For Speeds, but I had no prob with driving in 4 so It wasnt an issue if itd stayed the same. Everything else is just more realistic like actually shooting in a straight line with bullets and only spreading after a certain amount of time instead of almost instant spread.. Not that it matters for you anyway.. I'm sure you use auto-aim. Also, when you shoot out a tire the vehicle actually slides and loses control like IRL.. Planes are also unstable when flying and are affected by the wind and engines now shut off if you take too much damage.. But please, give us some examples of how the game is

Guess I just don't get where the fun is in ruining other people's car. I guess it would be funny to see someone on all four rims sparking down the road. But the cars respawn anyway. If your car gets all messed up, just switch to another Free Roam. Fixed car. Just like Quick Save in campaign.
