I don't understand the deathmatch radar/blip system

I will be sneaking around the map and suddenly I will become visible on the radar for apparently no reason, yet other times I can be shooting without a suppressor and still remain hidden. Most of the time it also makes me visible on the radar straight after spawning and it takes a minute or two for my blip to go grey again. It seems really random, is it broken or is it supposed to be this bad?

Played some more and I'm convinced this is broken. It seems to work as it should in LTS games but in deathmatch it just seems completely random. I can be stood perfectly still with nobody in sight but my blip will suddenly become visible despite me not making any noise.

Not trying to bump my own thread but this is the first result on google for this sort of thing so I thought I should give an update (plus I can't seem to edit my posts on mobile). I've finally realised what the problem is: blip colours in TDM are reversed for some reason, so your blip is blue when youre hidden and changes to grey when you become visible. Whereas in regular DM it starts white and changes to red when you have been spotted. It's slightly different in LTS too; your blip is grey when hidden and blue when visible. Really confusing having it different for each game mode.

Does my head in no option to have blips set to all like gta 4. Just the option would've been nice
