does gta online have a story?

so i know i read theres 500 missions, but im wondering if it has like any sort of story, like better missions, im not expecting like single player but i dont like mulitplayer games cuz they are usualy so boring

 

im hoping it has like some sort of story with half decent nmissions at least? or are they all just the go there kill that, no story of ctuscenes, i know in the begining there a few cutscenes with lamar, is there many more at all?

eh, I was kinda wanting to know the same thing, but since I'm a level 12 now I can kinda tell you YES, and no... The missions don't have much of a cut scene or dialogue to them as of yet. But as you rank higher, you will unlock cut scenes, but they aren't "missions". Example being, when you rank to level 10 Lester will call you, and a L will appear on the map. When you arrive to his house, there will be a cutscene explaining how you can set a bounty on other players. With that said, as of now there really isn't a definite story to online. It's mainly just what you make of it. I hope this helps!

You're new to Los Santos, you're LifeInvader friends with Lamar. You've moved here and Lamar will pick you up from the airport. He's hooking you up to be "in the game" in LS. That's pretty much the story, and you'll meet and work for various people in the LS area.

ah damn thats pretty dissapointing to me, i was hoping for some decent missions, im sure ill still have a bit of fun in it, but with no interesting stuff to do, i get bored quick. oh well, it started good as you got a bit of story with lamar but i guess that was just the introduction, was hoping for a seperate story then all the side activities

 

i wish they just didnt bother with online and just concentrated on single player. just my opinion though as i know theres loads of people who enjoy multiplayer.

lol wat? no love story with lamar, YOUVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME, all i wanted was to take lamar on an interesting love story, nah i was thinking youre usual gta type story, lol i just get bored to quick with these ever lasting mmo type missions, they dont interest me at all

 

my expectations for gta online were all wrong, i thought it was its own game, like single player but online, and loads of side stuff to do when not on a main missions

Whatever you do online IS your story.

It has a basic structure of you trying to make a name for yourself in Los Santos. You do drug deals, protect people, kill people, steal cars. Again, it is not linear as that would just seem like you are forced one way.

 

Were you expecting a similar story to SP? Because that would be hard to implement as an online.

 

It is an open-ended plot. Which is good so you can't really say "I beat GTA:O 100%"

yeah i wasnt expecting anything quite as good as single player, but yeah that was what i was thinking it was going to be, i thought it would be a seperate story then all the side activities would be like youre standard mmo type crappy quests, that you do over and over and over.

Yea cause playing single player is so original and the stories of gta where you are a crminal doing missions is so f*cking original. Basically you arent good at online and you want something easier, which is what single player is. I fyou want a story go fwatcha f*cking movie. I want a game thats awesome to play online, with competitive play, and this is. Single player is for stupid people who wanna play a dumbass black plastic box instead of real people. Makes no f*ckin sense at all. f*ck a story, i want to play the game.

I guess technically speaking it kind of does have a storyline. Never really got that far into it, but essentially it's kind of like GTA 4's system of working your way up in the criminal underworld.
