So I spent about 10 hours today playing and got to level 10. Had about $50,000 including the $25,000 purchased garage (basically made by FARMING stores and selling cars once the COOL DOWN is over). It's gone. All gone. I make sure it auto saves, put my car in the garage and log out to eat lunch. I come back and it's gone.

 

I've given my patience to this, you can see it in my posts, I've even defended it. But I've never seen hours and days of progress eliminated in a second for what seems to be no reason. I've played coutless mmos both in beta and on launch day and I've honestly never seen something like this. This isn't just a server issue at this point, it's simply poorly managed. These people have no idea what they're doing at Rockstar.

 

You can literally purchase the absolute worst MMO on the market and, at the very least, your progress will be saved - even on launch day. This is really just becoming unacceptable, even for a Free To Play game.

I love how people are complaining about losing sh*t in-game when it's been said thousands of times on countless threads that the cloud servers are not working correctly. I still haven't even got passed the tutorial race, get some perspective, buddy.

That's cool, when you do get in game, sit there and play it for 10-12 hours. Log out and have some lunch and come back to it all being gone. Then we can see who needs some perspective. I'd rather have not played at all at this point rather than put up with all the crap I had to for it all to be gone.

What, did you not read my response at all? Rockstar has warned players that the cloud servers are extremely unstable right now, so loss of your character isn't uncommon. You knew it could happen, and you wasted your time anyway. That isn't anyone's fault but your own. So, this entire thread is pretty much just a "rub my back pls" thread to get some sympathy.

I think he's saying that you're a bit stupid for doing what you did. You knew the cloud servers were down, you knew they were working on it, and you knew there were bugs/glitches, but you continued to play, for 10 hours, might I add. If I said, "Hey, the brakes on my car aren't working too well, but I'm going to fix them up tomorrow." and you go out and take it for a spin before it's fixed and die, whose fault is it?

I knew this was going to be a problem. How? Because Rockstar has no experience in "mmo" style online games/launches. I mean look at Blizzard Entertainment. It took them yeeeeears to get their sh*t together for expansion and major patch launches; and even then there are still some hiccups. What did everyone expect with Rockstar? I sure had zero hope. I laughed at all the people who would say they took vacation/sick days etc from work and school. To myself, I knew that I wouldn't be playing this for a while. I don't want to try until the major problems get ironed out. No I'm not a know-it-all or anything, just simply had a good feeling it would be a very unfortunate launch for many. Cheers to the minority it worked for.

One the plus side if you do a bit of research you'll notice that by doing nothing it is possible your character will return.

 

I have had the exact same issue today. Except mine disappeared when I attempted to change session.

 

Don't create a new character, just do something else for a couple of hours & then see if your char returns later.

the only reason i am not this pissed off is because i more or less expected it it happen... still crushingly dissappointing to have to start over untill it comes back... if it comes back.....

 

 

at least i can re-create my character with ease since i wrote down the Gparent combo

I've played MMOs that rolled back after crashing, but yeah, I don't remember experiencing character removal.

 

To be honest, the biggest mistake Rockstar made is that they didn't treat GTAO like an MMO.

What I mean by that is, that they should have hosted public beta sessions before the launch. They would have time to avoid all this mess.
