Why are the Shooting Mechanics Never Good in GTA Games?

Auto aim feels like the game is holding your hand. Traditional GTA feels the same. Free aim is fiddly and not smooth.

I hate to mention it but Saints Row games have really cool aiming mechanics. You can headshot someone easily, but GTA with a super inflated budget never gets the shooting smooth. Why? I just want some precision.

Go play Saints Row then

You don't know what bad aim is unless you play GTA VC on a Smartphone.... THAT IS BAD AIM!

It's the same mechanics/engine implemented from Max Payne 3, there's nothing wrong with it. Much better improvement over GTA IV's shooting mechanics that's for sure

Buford T Justice

Because it's called Grand Theft ***AUTO*** It's a car game first and foremost. The shooting is fine for a 3rd person based car game. Free aim has abit of input lag but hopefully that will be fixed

Oh for sure it is. But it was better in MP3 still.

No sh*t, Sherlock! Thats what Max Payne 3 was all about... if the shooting mechanics werent good in MP3, the game would be sh*t. Its not the same for GTA V. GTA isnt all about shooting.

You shoulda played the whole game free aim first, then you wouldn't be such a noooob when you came online.

I get called a troll and dumbass for saying something bad. Some people should chill out. It was just an observation.

R* could vastly improve the shooting mechanics by simply getting rid of that useless auto-centre camera or at least have the option to disable it (like in red dead).

R* just infuriate me - they have the capacity to create awesome games but their design choices are just terrible. They always have to try to be different (usually for the sake of it) rather than being conventional and having a better system (i.e. is the gta online character creating system novel - YES; is it good - NO)

Please R* disable that stupid auto-centre - it ruined GTA IV and isn't much better in GTA V.

autoaim is ridiculously easy, more-so than in IV.

assisted aim is slighty better, but still an aimbot in essence

freeaim would be good, but there seems to be little "sticky-aim" and the general fps inconsistencies make it a little tricky to use

gotta agree though, the technology and visual fluidity is there for a proper manual-aim system, yet they keep porting this autoaim garbage.(i bet it's because 95% of the playerbase can't play without it)

I used auto aim exclusively until MP3. Now it feels like control is being taken away from me when it's turned on.

yeah, if it was with me i'd give it a invisible aim, and compensate with the camera angle. All to make it realistic. But i don't dislike V's aiming...

I really wish they'd copy/paste shooting from MP3.

GTA V seemed like its MP3, but hit its head halfway through development.

Sorry my man but that is possibly the most outrageous request I've read on this forum.

You seriously don't want a crosshair on screen?

Do you know many times you're going to die? :(

I love a challenge and I NEVER use auto-aim but invisible aim? That's unnecessarily hardcore Señor :/

I disagree. I once saw a game who did it sooo somothly by positioning the camera angle in such a perfect way it was awesome. I don't know what game it was because i only played a demo. I think it was The Getaway... I don't now. All i know is that it can be done.

it wasn't that hard for me to hit my targets while shooting from the hip or from behind cover. a no reticule system could work, but it would have to be an option
