Slipstreaming: Punishing Skilled Players

More realism does not mean more fun. There should not be slipstreaming in a multi-player race. It does not reward skill. If you were rammed by another car in real life, then you would get knocked out. Do you want that in the game too? In real life, you can't move your car when you are in mid air and you can't magically flip your car over if you are upside down. Should we remove these things from the game to make it more realistic?

It most certainly does reward skill, if you know how it works and how to use it is an advantage. It is not some magic win card that makes you get instant wins. It requires speed control, and handling ability, to even pull off. Hitting the car in front of you slows you down, the point is to get just behind the lead car so you are almost touching, then matching the speed. This allows you to break out, and have a little extra in the throttle to over take on a stretch, or to pull ahead by under breaking into a corner and using the extra force of the broken slip stream to help pull you around the corner then having a little extra in the tank to push the out corner at a higher speed than your opponent.

On the flip side setting up a slipstream on an opponent from the lead spot can be used to reduce their handling, known hairpin coming up, force a slip stream before the corner to reduce the rear drivers effective handling and before the corner starts, break it and watch him miss the corner...or be required to brake harder than you going into resulting in you coming through the corner either in a retained position, or slightly ahead.

Slip stream are a highly effective tool in many types of racing, and those who can manipulate the skill set of drafting will be better off. Saying it requires no skill is pretty moronic, it requires a lot of skill and understanding to effectively pull off.

Also:

In real life you can move your car in the air. simply shifting yours and passengers weight around will cause the car to tilt in that direction, just the same as it does in GTA. Its actually pretty realistic as well, once you start moving the vehicle in one direction in the game it is harder to pull it back to the other direction. In real life this would be similar based on the weight of the vehicle and of course wind resistance pushing down on any "lower" angled parts of the car making it harder to pull those up as the added wind resistance helps push that part of the car down faster.

Cars flipping back over after being rolled however isn't real, but I wouldn't care if they couldn't be flipped back over, heck I wouldn't care if they started on fire and blew up like in GTA 3, mostly because it is a small part of the game. Then again it is probably done so the game doesn't need to recall id's of objects that are just upside down cars, less redundant objects in the memory make for more objects that are useful.

But hey 1/2 aint bad. I suggest stop whining about an aspect that has been in racing games for over 20 years, and I strongly suggest you go download a Kyle Petty SNES Rom, or Go grab GT 5 and learn how to drive in the NASCAR school. Then come back to GTA 5 and realize that Slip stream or drafting is actually a very useful skill to poses.

I think slipstreaming basically promotes you to be in 2nd place near the end. If someone is right behind you with just the final stretch of a race you're screwed. They'll just whip right by you.

Hey moron, guess what. Slipstreaming was implemented as a way to level out the good from the bad, so a level 50 doesn't demolish a level 5 every single time. You should probably spend 12 seconds googling it first before created a useless thread.

A level 50 should demolish a level 5 every single time, if he's better. Otherwise what would the point be of being good at the game? There's an option to invite players of a similar skill level.

I HATE R* approach to bad players since GTA 4 online.

Let them suffer.. If they f*ckin suck they f*ckin suck. They should have to deal with it.. Not punish the people who actually do play well.

From auto aim to this new catch up bullsh*t in races,, It makes no sense.

Turn your auto aim off in single player you scrub.

It has been confirmed by a lot of people here that turning off assisted aim in SP only joins you with free aim players. If you weren't such a baddie in SP you wouldn't have to experience that.

I don't use auto aim you dip sh*t... But keep running your mouth tho. As if it matters.

Well you ahve it on or whoever you are joining to play with does. Only have played one room of auto aim and that was with my friend who played auto aim in SP.

So, you are either full of sh*t or your friend is playing with auto aim.

Your wrong there. I cannot seem to get in a free aim game. I hate auto-aim and have never used it in SP. Can you explain that then?
