This is how me and a few friends got it working this morning

When the intro screen loads up Dashboard it, load the game up again but this time go to Solo Session in the online menu.

The intro will load up and you will be put in a race just with Lamar.

WHAT IF IT DOESNT PUT ME IN A RECE WITH LAMAR, IT JUST LOADING WITH CITY IN BACKGROUND, SHOULD I WAIT OR WAHT ? HOW DOES IT LOOK TO PUT ME INTO RACE, THERE IS A GUY WHO BRINGS A CAR AND THEN BACKGROUND CITY AND LOADING .... JUST FREEZE

I might have been lucky... but it worked! I also restarted the game and my character is there. Seems to work... for now.

As soon as the back of the Vinewood sign showed up. But don't bother trying, everyone's loosing characters again (me too).

when did you dashboard?

 

You are better switching characters so it saves. dashboarding it may lose your character. This is after you pass the race

yeah that is what i though so too.

sh*t... didnt work for me.

 

 

one time I could walk around those cars, lamar was sitting in one, i coudnt get in to any car.

I launched an online solo session but I'm stuck on the race loading and I see other players avatars...

 

Damn this is annoying.

It worked for me, finished the race but now I get stuck there. Only thing I can do is dashboard and when I do that my character gets deleted. Done this 4 times now.

i can tell u from myself that i deleted both characters (or not, the game itself delete it and i just created one)

I just tried this, and if you dashboard as the intro is starting then it just deletes your character and you have to do it all again so...

mine character didnt get deleted when i dashboarded it. Wait till you can see yourself on the plane. perhaps that will help. thats what i did

Lads I know it's not going to work for everyone but like you I had been trying and trying since tuesday and this is the way we all got it working.

This worked for me, kind of.

 

I created my character, started the first mission, and got stuck on the launching session screen.

 

Dashboarded, and started the game up in story mode, then selected solo play from the online menu.

 

This let me play the race vs just Lamar, but after that I could run around and do jobs, see other players etc.

 

It was quite fun. Played a deathmatch against some guy who kept running me over outside the hospital!, played a mission with a crew member I happened to bump into.

 

That was 3 hours ago. Now, I go back to the game and my character is gone, and I have to start over.

 

I think I'm going to leave online alone until I hear from Rockstar that all issues are sorted. Need to get the last 6% in singleplayer anyway.

These fixes don't do anything. People just get lucky and assume whatever they just did fixed the issue. You're just as likely to get in by repeatedly dashboarding and going back in as you are trying to delete your character, redownload the update, etc. There is no reliable way to get past the race.

 

P.S. I really wish we could get an update. It's been like 24 hours since they said anything at all, and even then it wasn't helpful.
