Worst multiplayer launch in history?

I have an understanding of networks , the fact is is they had enough servers there would not be a problem ITS AS SIMPLE AS THAT.

Eh... clearly you don't understand at all. What is happening right now is essentially a DDOS attack on their servers. millions of people are trying to connect at once. When Anonymous, Lulsec and whoever else were launching actual DDOS attacks against actual government infrasturcture(you know, important stuff), they brought their systems down with WAY less force than is actually happening to R*. Do you have any idea how many servers would be needed to cater for the sheer millions trying to connect at the minute? Or how big the server farm room would have to be? Or how much it would cost to cool them? Maintain them? Only for a large chunk of people to emigrate over to COD in November and never come back. No you don't. You're just another cry baby who thinks he knows everything...

 

Oh and to people comparing this to COD midnight releases, COD uses peer to peer (users host the games) as opposed to servers like R* are using.

As far as for my own personal experience, yea this is the worst. I think us PS3 users will have to wait till Tuesday for an update to actually play since PSN only updates in Tuesdays.

To play devils advocate for a moment. Rockstars warning was nothing more the preemptive damage control. They made a bilion+ dollars and still wouldn't ante up for dedicated servers nor did they properly stress test their cloud service. They knew how many copies sold actual numbers not just units shipped and with that kind of information there is no well in hell they or any developer couldn't at least be half way prepared. Warning or no warning this is why they fail

I'm not defending R* but unfortunately this kind of thing is par for the course now with AAA online games. Do you really not have anything else in your life that can keep you occupied until its fixed? If not, then you've bigger problems than GTA Online not working. If you're all truly dissatisfied with the service you've paid for, then there are two things you can do.

1- Email the responsible party and complain about said service.

2- Don't buy any of their futures products if you feel that strongly about it.

With servers the only way to gain a steady medium is to launch them online and combat the doss attack man. Its not a peer to peer network like COD uses. ( Peer to Peer) is crap in the long run...hence all the game fails and disconnects even 2 years after it launches.. Not exactly true. Partly, and they admitted that they didn't want to buy enough servers to deal with the launch issues, because there would be a lot of wasted hardware after this issue died down. Why waste money when it is a temporary setback.
