Worst multiplayer launch in history?

Simcity was 10 million times worst than this. You HAD to be online for that, even playing singleplayer.

thoughts? did you not read rockstars warning that there will be problems on launch? they warned everyone before launch. so no its not the worst

Sim City, Diablo III and i'll think there's more, 1 day with problems is not long for a big launch.

It's probably up there...at least in recent times, but but I'm not sure.

R* definitely wins the worst character creation tool though.

If they knew before launch does that mean we can expect a long wait until everything is good?

Hell yeah. Spend some of that money on some decent servers, R*. The servers they have now, they bought those at a f*cking yard sale for a fiver

If you think about it like this: This is the true open beta test; you won't be too offended by it. It just sucks for the months leading up to this we were under the collective impression that Oct 1st was launch day, not the launch of the beta test. I'll take what I can get, whenever I can (eventually) get it.

I'll give it a week before anything changes , I don't even think it's an overload problem , just rockstar failed with this game, I would have waited 1 maybe 2 years for them to have just scrapped current gen release and just gone for next gen gta v would have been seriously better

SlappyPwnsAss

This is normal for such a big game like this to have problems with multiplayer on launch day

As far as for my own personal experience, yea this is the worst. I think us PS3 users will have to wait till Tuesday for an update to actually play since PSN only updates in Tuesdays.

16 Million people bought the game.

That is more than World of Warcraft has ever had.

World of Warcraft is said to be the largest multiplayer game ever made.

Soooo, with that known, think about the amount of stress on that network.

If you know how networking actually works, you would understand why this is actually expected.

If you ask me, they should have had regional launches. 1 day apart for each. They would have ensured a much smoother launch.

I have an understanding of networks , the fact is is they had enough servers there would not be a problem ITS AS SIMPLE AS THAT.

Failed is an exaggeration.

Though I do agree that they should have waited for Next Gen. However, I guess the next GTA will be on the next consoles, and will be leaps and bounds better than this.

however, the online issue has nothing to do with this generation of consoles. It's just the sheer volume of users trying to join sessions at the same time.

Not exactly true. Partly, and they admitted that they didn't want to buy enough servers to deal with the launch issues, because there would be a lot of wasted hardware after this issue died down. Why waste money when it is a temporary setback.

Imagine you're the man in charge of budgeting at R*. Do you give the networking team another 10m to boost the servers up to 2m capacity? Knowing full well that in less than a month, peak population won't crest 100k daily.

Could they fix this by adding more hardware? Sure. Is it a wise financial decision? No way.

Eh... clearly you don't understand at all. What is happening right now is essentially a DDOS attack on their servers. millions of people are trying to connect at once. When Anonymous, Lulsec and whoever else were launching actual DDOS attacks against actual government infrasturcture(you know, important stuff), they brought their systems down with WAY less force than is actually happening to R*. Do you have any idea how many servers would be needed to cater for the sheer millions trying to connect at the minute? Or how big the server farm room would have to be? Or how much it would cost to cool them? Maintain them? Only for a large chunk of people to emigrate over to COD in November and never come back. No you don't. You're just another cry baby who thinks he knows everything...

Oh and to people comparing this to COD midnight releases, COD uses peer to peer (users host the games) as opposed to servers like R* are using.

One hundred percent agreed with this. Had GTA V made you play online all the time then yes it's possible it could rival SimCity. That said, I still play SimCity and the core of the game is still broken beyond belief. GTA V on the other hand is just a server issue, not a broken game.
