FirstLadyofGTA
So murder, mindless destruction, bank robbing, foul language, necrophelia and everything else in GTA V is fine with you, but have a shemale in the game and suddenly you've gone to far? For f*cks sake... The important point is this is an erroneous depiction of trans people who are a marginalised group and perpetuates pernicious stereotypes. There are erroneous depictions and stereotypes throughout the whole series of minorities/certain ethnic groups and denigration of women has been a constant so why are 'trans people' or mocking them a step to far? riksterinto
This game pokes fun at almost every different kind of stereotype imaginable based on social class, gender, race, profession, etc, you name it. It's not like the transgendered community is singled out and I don't believe it was intended to do any harm. It's simply having fun with a stereotype. FYI I'm a gay man with transgendered friends and I didn't find it offensive. Especially when a group of trannies beat me up and wasted me...lol

Duly noted. But trans people are horrendously oppressed. Racism still exists in society, but it's frowned upon and generally renounced by prominent people. Transphobia on the other hand seems to be prevalent within the media, like comedians etc I understand humour isn't literal, but I do not agree with targeting a group who experience odious bigotry and derision daily for their gender. The answer to your latter point is obvious, of course people care about issues that affect them more than issues that don't. This is just a component of being human. Drakeulah
I haven't heard any black people mad about how most of the black people in the game are very ghetto, or Hispanics mad about how in the game they have a thick Hispanic accent. People get mad about EVERYTHING now. I used to work with a tranny and im sure he'd think that was humorous.

Women are half the population and are horrendously oppressed! Do transgenders get acid poured on their face/shot in the head for wanting to learn how to read, do they get raped every few minutes in so called civilized countries, do they suffer domestic abuse on the same scale as women, are they trafficked as sex slaves, are they killed for honor crimes against their modesty? I could be wrong but speaking generally I think the transgender phenomena as a civil/human rights issue is quite a new one compared to thousands/or hundreds of years of oppression of other groups. The fact that racism or sexism is frowned upon doesn't mean someone's feelings won't get hurt (just like a transgendered person's feelings according to you). I've heard some things I'd rather not have but no one is forcing me to play this game. The only thing that is obvious to me is you have shown that you care only about certain types of prejudice which I find unacceptable as much as you find an animated picture in a video game. Regardless of whether you think it's human nature it seems to me to be hypocritical (particularly if you are of a liberal mindset).

screech
There's no need for people here to be nasty to trans people. They're just trying to live. People who have plastic surgery are somewhat a bit trans. Let's try to understand and be tolerant. I'm not terribly offended by the depiction in the game. It's a joke in a context. I would not condone the abuse of anyone trans or not in the street in the real world.
Bazzad
When I was 17 I was caught on all fours, panting and wearing a dog collar (Im Trans-species BTW, the species I identify with is canine) It was awkward to say the least. Fortunately my mother didn't see or hear the porn I was watching at the same time. Oh, FYI I am not attracted to dogs, I am a dog. You are not a dog, you are mentally ill. Bigot. People like you are absolute morons. There clearly is something wrong with someone who thinks they are a dog. So instead of going out of your way to be so accepting and sticking your nose where it doesn't belong, why not help people like this seek help. Woof! Have you never heard of the Latin phrase "Cogito ergo sum"? Roughly translated it means "I think I am (a dog) therefore I am (a dog)". screech
In Greek times the gods were animal-human hybrids. So what if people want to identify as something post-human. It doesn't matter. They are still subjects who do not deserve to be abused.

The answer to your latter point is obvious, of course people care about issues that affect them more than issues that don't. This is just a component of being human. I don't think you know what oppression is. They're completely free to do what they want in America. I'm sure there are some things that are "uncomfortable" for them, and I'm sure some people don't like them for who they are. But you know what? It's not so comfortable for everyone else, either. And I'm sure there could be a day when transgender people aren't treated so badly, but it's not going to come by forcing others to walk on eggshells and shoving beliefs down people's throats. My Jewish blood runs very deep, and my people were oppressed multiple times over thousands of years. And I mean actually oppressed... not just that they felt "a little unwelcome." But you know what? I don't care when people make Jew jokes, nor do I go demanding recognition and sympathy. Know why? Everyone could write a sob story about their identity if they wanted to. The difference is that the rest of us realize that it's part of life.

Fizzlepop531
It's a game that makes fun of everyone and everything. Get over yourselves. Yes there are problems for Transgender folk in real life, and that sucks for them. But this game insults everything. A transgender person should have been more offended if they were not made fun of. nickstemoeilijk
Edward-Is-A-Flunky45
Hillarious, needs more. As a gay man with several trans friends I'm absolutely fine with this, as would my trans friends be. I have a sense of humour, my friends have a sense of humour and so do Rockstar apparently. This series is full of satire, I couldn't understand if people were offended by it. But don't you think targeting a group that is severely marginalised is indefensible? There's two ways seeing this Rockstar is showing the reality OR Rockstar is doing a hateful speech. I'd take the first option. Dan Houser is known for ambition in his stories and for showing the american reality. Not hateful speech. The thing is that most people doesn't understand art correctly sometimes and jump into conclusions. I'm not gay, I'm straight, I have so much respect for people who are gay, transsexual, lesbian as I have a lot of friends like this. And I know how they feel about it. I saw this as a way of showing the reality of these people, on how they feel. Remember when in GTA 3 the workers around that construction site in Staton Island were all singing YMCA ? This is one example. Forgot to say about this, but in GTA Online you can put make ups in a male character ^^ Really looks like a drag queen, I made one look like Boy George, really funny. No matter the group, if you defend one group for being "attacked" (I use that word VERY loosely here) in GTA you have to defend all groups. Seriously people, its all in good fun, Rockstar means nothing by it, people just get too offended. If anyone is getting offended by this, just stop and aim your anger at people hitting the group with actual hate, not just joke hate. jptawok
We were just talking about transgendered people in another thread. After a little poking around, look what I found: https://twitter.com/carolynmichelle A transgendered video game reviewer that approves of GTA and its antics. My fellow liberals really need to stop getting hurt on behalf of others, especially when they're not even hurt to begin with. The people rabble rousing on this aren't even transgendered. you little cryptofascist! Just thought I'd add on that you completely mis-used this word and/or mis-labeled me. Try again.
