Even with server issues, I give props to Rockstar!

Yeah, yeah, I know there are millions of cry babies complaining up a storm about how they can't get into GTA online on launch day and I am in the same boat. I havent gotten in yet after a whole day of trying. I see so many posts about "They had 2 weeks!", "They have $1 billion from sales, they are taking the money and running", and "Why didnt they add more servers after knowing how many copies they sold?".

how do you know they didnt buy more servers? Or started working on this since launch day? Servers arent like your HP computer at home where you turn it on and "tahdah" it works. So much programming needs to be put into place so they can all work together, plus the insane amount of security they need to add to each server (I assure you they dont just use windows firewall and buy a copy of Norton Antivirus from a store).

Anyhow, My reasoning to why im giving props to Rockstar is the fact that they released a post last week saying that there may be issues with launch and they are new at this sort of gaming and they may have bugs. How can you not respect a company for openly admitting that they arent the best of the best and something and for even giving a pre-warning of issues that may come up? Take EA for example....they would NEVER say anything like this. EA has too big of an ego and I honestly think that company is more the type that would not care as much how a launch goes and their response would be more like "Yeah or servers are down, your just going to have to wait, we know what we're doing because we are the best at what we do".

Rockstar ALWAYS cared about their fans!!! They took all the feedback from GTAlV and made this masterpiece of a game. They delayed the release of the game to make sure it was of the right caliber instead of just releasing it "unpolished" just to make their money faster.

I admit, i was disappointed that I couldnt play online yesterday but damn, it wasnt enough to ruin my day. Stuff happens, they are working on it. Anyone who thinks they dont care and not making a big enough effort is an idiot.

Loyalty, reputation, and being honest with your customers is what makes any company rise or fail. Rockstar 100% knows that and Just think of this....I'm sure there are dozens of R* employees that have been working over 30 hours while being away from their own families and personal life just to make sure you can get online as quick as possible. That's the problem with his modern society...no compassion and understanding!!!

Keep up the amazing work Rockstar! I know you are working hard and If it takes me 2 weeks to get online, thats ok with me because I do own other video games to play in the meantime.

I was lucky and got on for almost 6 hours yesterday (Xbox between 6PM and 12PM BST.) I met up with my friend and we robbed stores together. We met up with two other randoms and screwed up a 24/7 job. It was lots of fun.

 

It's a game of epic highs and lots of lows too. Not perfect (even with a lucky stable session) but it has the potential to be utterly amazing. Can't wait for it to stabilise but after one (6 hour) glimpse, I want to play it again.

I have had 3 sessions of about 6-8 hours and have instantly joined them and my friends easily joined my game so its been running great for me.

I personally think the people that are whining are the people who are having problems. once there game starts going smooth they are going to come back and change their mind.

I got to play for a couple hours after release before it crapped out on me and have not been able to get back in since, but while i was able to play, i was really enjoying myself. The fact they did pre-warn us that it would be most likely full of problems ment i went in with very little expectations, and was happy to just generaly run around and get a "early" feel for it. Seeing how alot of the features worked, taking time searching for a good solid first car, trying to plan out how i was going to go about playing once it was more stable, and not at risk of losing progress earned etc.

 

Yea, they could of done a little more in prep for release im sure, but hey, we were warned, and for the first 18 hours, were told they are working very hard trying to get people online and had a fair bit of contact from R*.

 

Wouldnt mind some sort of update as its been 10+ hours since they have said anything, but i guess we should take that as they are too busy trying to find solutions to what could possibly be a million causes.

 

I would stay away from trying to log in, but the "oh oh oh, but what if it works this time" in me wont let me as a general rule. Its alot of fun, and cant wait to get back in

Agreed. They didn't know what they were up against until their sales numbers came in and then they made the announcement that they need more servers and could be a rocky start for launch. No one could predict those types of record breaking numbers. I'm not sure if a lot of people here understand the general transition of a game with this much digital information AND on top of that, unexpectedly selling enough units that it made more money than ANY movie, DVD, CD or any other game has ever had. I mean, I knew this would end up being a problem after I heard that they sold that much. People really should've have figured there would be launch issues even before R* announced their would be.

The point is that when you buy a product you expect it to f*cking work. The fact that its software in this case shouldnt matter.( the fact that they release half assed products these days, on a disc with the intention to patch all the flaws out of it at a later juncture is rediculous! Half the games will be unplayable this way a couple of generations down the line.)

 

People claim Rockstar is off the hook because they warned us about initial problems. This doesnt fly tho. Because they gave the warning about GTA:O having bugs, way after the original games release date! Everyone allready had the disc on their shelve!

 

Lets say you rent an appartment. Sign the papers , pay the deposit. And when you first open the front door you notice there's no plumbing installed, no electricity and they didnt put glass in the windows. > beep beep< a text message from the landlord; "Oh btw you might notice some sh*t missing, we are working on resolving the issue."

And there you are.

 

Its ok to atleast complain when you are being f*cked in the ass unwillingly.

I feel they gave us warning and told us we would be in for a world of sh*t from the start. The game is great. When you actually get to play online kt is great. Just give it a while. I feel like all the whiners are A: jobless people who have too much time. B: people with jobs who took time off. C: kids that took these days off school (smack your parents) or stoners who have nothing better to do with their lives. Just wait a damn minute while they get this fixed. They didnt run off with your money. They have to pay their investors and all the people who would of lost out if this game flopped. As for servers, if you ever hosted through an online service (godaddy) youd know that it takes a while for them to get off their butt and actually setup what you need. Yes they had 2 weeks but that isn't enough time to load up enough servers to accommodate 13+ millions people with the exact same software. Just hold the hell up. Get a job and work it. The time will pass by faster with you not checking every 5 seconds to see if you can enjoy being a newb.

Actually releasing a unpolished game is exactly what they have done. If the problems online are caused by lack of servers then Rockstar have no-one but themselves to blame, they know what demand for the game is like.

See, unlike most 15 year old kids on here with their testosterone levels all rising and sh*t, I could care less.

 

Then again, I didn't take a day off from work or anything it's just not that big of a deal.

 

What I'm frustrated at, is they shouldv'e just released online on launch day. Regardless of how many people bought the game, it's probably safe to say they'd have like 50% less traffic on their servers because most people check out single player first. If this was CoD it would be different, but the story in this is the first thing that comes up, and once you start playing you get lost in it.

 

Also, I really hate when companies decide what we should do with our money. I mean, when you put at least $60 for a game it should be complete. I would have split time between story and multiplayer but because they say we should check out story first that's what we have to do.

 

It's not like this was a free update, it was ON the disc and was just unlocked via update.

 

But all in all I'd be safe to say I'd bet this would have been a lot less stressful on everyone if it was released on the 17th and not yesterday.

So this is where all the people with brains have been hiding. I was starting to lose faith in humanity. Kids today just have this underlying sense of entitlement, they think the world owes them big. I see alot of parallels between alot of these moaning posters and Michael's son in the game. Well done Rockstar with your darkly humorous view of the world I think you've been proved right.
