Cars/Insurance & LS Customs...

I think I'm in the minority in that after a few hours yesterday I was able to get on, and yeah there are a few bugs and problems but it was always going to be expected. I've now had a good few hours in the game but there's something that is really annoying me..but there is every chance that I'm wrong.

 

First few missions in and you get to take a car to LS Customs with Simeon picking up the bill for a few minor mods. Got the insurance and tracker system so if I lose the car it is stolen, great.

 

Except shortly after taking the car for a spin I got wasted (probably by a 12 year old with better reflexes and hands genetically altered to fit an Xbox controller) and my car stolen. Not a problem I'll ring the insurance company..they even sent me a text saying if your car is stolen, give us a ring and we'll replace it.

 

Problem 1

 

There is no phone number for the insurance company (unless I'm being retarded and cant find it) so I have no way to contact them.

 

Hmm OK, not too much of a problem I'll go get me a new one. Except now (again unless I'm being an idiot) every-time I jack a car and take it to LS Customs the car is "too hot to handle".

 

Problem 2

 

I'm playing GRAND THEFT AUTO yet I can not actually steal a car change its plates and have a respray.

 

Obviously in terms of a level playing field there might be an argument for not just being able to steal a car and keep it. But if I then want to spend my cash changing its identity surely I should be able to do so - perhaps on a sliding scale so you're talking lots of cash to do this to a high end inferno or something and much less for some sh**y hatchback.

 

Taking it further it might be nice to be able to sell these 'ringers' but for now I'd be happy with actually being able to keep a car I've nicked.

 

Unless I'm doing it wrong (always a possibility)

I haven't had this at all, I can change any car to mine. You might have a bug?

Some of the higher tier of cars have trackers in them, so this may be the cause of the "Too hot to handle"

 

I have the number for the insurance.. but when some kid steals my car i get no text telling me that its stolen... so i have to rage up in a big 4x4 and smash straight into the kid who stole my car and kill him for my OWN car.. quite irritating.

I have, can't remember how but I think you have to do it either without getting the cops on you or wait a while after you steal it, you can also hunt cars for simeon for good prices too

My understanding was that the "high end" cars will have to be purchased via the internet. It seems as if you cannot make the really high end cars you steal your own!

Pretty sure you can change your car settings somewhere to where only you can drive it, only you and your friends, etc. Might be a good idea to do that first any time to own a new car.

I sold one for 3gs then brought another and they just said they don't need any more cars right now, I would like to change my default car but not sure either what to do.

I still have my original car and the phone number to the insurance is on my phone, but when I called it I got no answer. It seems kind of random if my car is around when I spawn. One time I didnt see my car till my third respawn and i thought it was gone for good and I was like oh there it is parked at the curb then while I was checking something on my phone a guy came out of nowhere ran up to my car and drove off lol

 

Anyway I guess the insurance works, just slow and when it wants to. So realistic!

Everyone is going on about "kids stealing my car" Guys... Just lock you car to friends only...Hold Back for a few seconds, press up on D-pad 3 times "Vehicle Access" - Set to whatever, friends, crew, Crew+ friends, no one etc. then GG stop crying about car stolen ^^

Okay 2 things...1.) In order to make sure no one steals your car, press the back button on tour controller..that should open the quick play menu..scroll down to where it asks who can enter your vehicle. From there you can choose no one, your friends, your friends and crew and everyone. If you choose no one then only you can enter that vehicle..given its your personal vehicle. 2.) You can take a nicked car there because I originally had a felon and traded it in for a gauntlet.

cars like corquettes and infernus etc are "too hot to handle" but some of the higher end midrange cars bring a pretty penny at LS. The G wagon Mercedes SUV gives you about $6800, the BMW 7 series style car gives you around $7900, and the Land Rover style car gives you $8600.

 

there is an insurance company number in your phone. i used it yesterday after i sank my car like Teddy Kennedy's oldsmobile, lol.

 

you pay the deductible, mine was $157 on a Sabre GT, and pick the car up at the insurance company office. i also stole mine out of impound too.

Well it does seem to be working now, dropped off a motor a LSC and got a few quid. There's obviously a cut off point somewhere as to what they'll take and what they won't, but certainly yesterday they wouldn't take anything.

 

Going to now try to 'acquire' my own motor now and see where the insurance gets me.
