GTA Online Screenshots: Show Your Character (Part 1)

Finally took the plunge - figured that should the weird 'skin texture swapping' glitch strike, I can either resort to the workaround (after all, I'm not planning on using novelty contacts any time soon), or I imagine R* will implement a system to counter the effects if/when they fix it (if they know what's good for them... :miranda: ).

Bit jarring, getting used to the upgraded textures and how they affect your characters (not to mention the improved way that teeth/eyes work), but fortunately, the various preset values for the feature/appearance settings allow minor tweaks to be made without turning your character into a freakish caricature. Decided to do a minor tweak on my 'virtual self' to give a more true-to-life result - set brow from 'standard' to 'prominent', and took the cheekbones from 'standard' to 'soft' (or whatever it is). Also, fixed the eyes from brown (?!?) to 'ocean blue' - much better! - ...only to render the whole thing moot by whacking my trademark helmet/shades combo back on (which has the amusing side-effect of giving 1st-person view a permanent dark filter).

After - mugshot:

...and in the garage, using my trusty MW Mesa as a backdrop:

CP7mJ5pU-Ee7MLBbbpXUWw_0_0.jpg

...yeah, that'll do. Now for Kelly - only minor tweak was to give her a slimmer jaw (from 'standard' to 'round'), since her face ended up looking a bit puffy from the upgrade. Also tweaked her heritage - turns out she's basically both the short-haired Asian parents, with the sliders set all the way to 'Mom' resemblance. Good to know, should I have to fix anything if a glitch hits.

Mugshot first - did she learn her lesson about 'not blinking/making a derp-face when the camera clicks'? Did she f***... :facedesk:

Also, particularly worth noting if you used any of the preset make-up options on old-gen - this time, just using one of the eyeliner options like 'smoky black' won't produced the same result, unless you also pair it with a matching blusher/lipstick combo. Also, if you want to mitigate the 'pores' appearance of the basic 'clean skin' texture, shove on a blusher set to the same rough colour as your character's skin tone, and then set it to 50% opacity - hey, presto, DIY concealer! ;)

Did that, along with a bit of tidying of the eyebrows, and finished off by smacking into a telegraph pole while parachuting (hence the grazed chin) - here's the finished article...

Glad to see my characters survived unscathed - now that initial panic's out of the way, I can get on with enjoying the insane level of detail of new-gen GTAO - and the crippling effect of first-person mode on my previously-respectable driving skills (barrel rolls - the horror!! :panic:)...

Is it me, or are character's mouths often too close to their noses?

Probably just you. Sometimes I get that same feeling or similar feelings because I'm really nitpicky about characters I create (not so much with characters other people create; I tend to reserve judgment when it comes to others' creations), when usually it's either only slightly off or just normal.

EDIT: Yup. Even now, I'm looking at these characters' mouths and am wondering if their mouths are too close to their noses. Though maybe it's the fact that it's late and I need to sleep. And maybe it's the same for you. Or maybe the faces actually are distorted in some way. Honestly, though, I think that the character models received a massive improvement when they transferred over to the next generation, even if their authors don't like their new looks or went and changed their looks completely. And there's been plenty of good showcases of the variety you can put in the characters, from the more subtle differences to the wild and crazy ones.

Zoots Remuvah

Bit of a homage to Enki Bilal..

And a first attempt at a country girl-ish look...

(bit of a rush job that I'll probably rework later though tbh..)

My first post as a member!

I saw earlier that there was a guy who was roleplaying the Miami Vice era. I've been doing the same thing:

This is one of the major differences between males and females so you have to get it right.

After reading this, I am still very hesitant on transferring this one over. I shutter to think what she may end up looking like.

What all did you end up doing to get your female looking as it did on last gen?

Honestly, it's pretty good on next gen. Its kinda like last gen in terms of what makeup you use has a pretty big effect on appearance. I think the skin is more realistic looking and has far more detail now. But basically, just pick a good foundation/blusher that matches your skin tone well. I added a tiny bit (like 10%) of rosy cheeks to my character to give her a slight little more character in her face. But basically, anything you do on the next gen creator should be minor tweaks and subtle little changes to your character if you want them looking similar to last gen.

Here is how my characters on main account turned out;

Primary character

Secondary character

I'm not completely satisfied, and it seems that my characters have been deteriorated, which means they are not worthy to be shown in the forum anymore. Too bad that Bad Sport status (256 days) did transfer too, and not all multiplayer achievements did unlock for me such as "Off The Plane", but the "Above The Law" etc did unlock. This means I must restart GTAO by deleting an character if I want to unlock all the achievements again. Stupid Rockstar Games.

I honestly didn't recognize my character when initially transferring. Even when I re-applied the bronzer eye shadow that I used on last-gen, it didn't look the same. I ended up using one of the ruby black eye shadows and increased the opacity. Then I used an angled blush with a slightly rosier color than her skin w/ 50% opacity. Finally, I used a lip-tone gloss on her lips.

I would also suggest to some transferring for the first time, use the side profile a lot, because your character will look much different from the side. You definitely want to even it out from all angles.

I like the primary character on OG and NG better... second one didn't turned out bad. Well it's up to you to see what to do... they are you creations!

Any reason why my female character has aged since taking her to the barbers? Something to do with contact lenses? Anyway of going back to the character creator when I already have two characters?

I don't understand this aging glitch people are talking about. Is it just wrinkles, or what is it that you're seeing? And to answer your question, you need at least one free slot open to do the character appearance glitch.

Edit: Try some of these tips I found on the R*s support page. People are saying that it occurs when you use the colored contacts. One person even said if they cost under $12000, they will age your skin.

I have solved the achievement issue so there is no need to delete any of them. And the camera angle, sunlight, and player mood is essential in order to be looking good on the photos, and i'm not a good photographer.

And my second character is identical to "Cmdr_Shepherd" female character, I do remember this from before I did take an break from forum. If I was going to delete an character then this character would be targeted.
