Rockstar Please change the character creation.

I like how you can have John Marston as your father, but even then your character doesn't look right. The eyes are too slim.

I wasn't going to use John as a parent. Simply because I knew everyone under the sun was going to, and I didn't want to look like everyone else. Well after messing around with it for about 10 mins and not getting a look even close to how I wanted, I gave in and selected John. The funny thing.. it didn't change a single feature with m character. At least nothing noticeable. I gave up and just wanted to play. So I just got it as close as I could and moved on. But yeah, there are original xbox titles with a better player creation tool.

I do like the attempt by Rockstar to do something different.. but it was a major fail.

Saints Row has had great customization for how many years now? And Rockstar feels like they can't just rip them off so instead they go for a system that gives you a stock face and only the smallest tweaks (going through all four Grandparents the only things that really changed were skin tone and basic proportions, and even that was just a half inch change here or there).

Really sh*tty and disappointing. Also disappointing that there is no way to alter your build. I was looking forward to making a big tough biker but the only option I have is to make a short scrawny dude with a Jason Mewes face.

I want to know why no matter what I do my guys face looks like it got ran over by a lawnmower when he was 12 and why his eyes are so dark I might as well put 0 hours a day for his sleeping pattern to make it seem realistic. Seriously I wanted to make myself for the first time in GTA, not play as a f*cking mongoloid pedophile that doesn't take showers.

I agree, Saints Row handled the character customisation brilliantly. What sounds like an interesting idea is just incredibly overcomplicated. Every grandmother looked like a meth head. I would much rather go through and change each individual charicteristic than use this sophisticated but flawed system. I could understand if your 'parents' were in the game somehow because then that would make a bit of sense but.....nah, too OTT.

If this many people have a problem then it should be changed. I laughed at first at all the complaining because I really didn't care. It took me about 45 seconds to switch through all the grandparents to find something I liked.

No, I couldn't adjust how many pimples were on my face and how many hairs come out of each mole like The Sims. My character looks about as ridiculous as every other GTA character so it works for me.

This is by far the worst character creation I have ever seen. What's the point in having your grandparents up there? Would be a lot more simple to just make changes to your character than trying to choose what your grandparents look like. Especially since the picture for your grandparents is only like an inch big. And i'm on my 52" Samsung.

Why and who came up with this stupid idea for creating a character?

I don't see how it would be ripping Saints Row off. There's plenty of games out there that offer advanced character creation. PlayStation Home, Skate, Elder Scrolls, Fallout, SmackDown! games and Mass Effect. However, what is supposed to be a huge online experience for a very popular series gives us the most half-assed and limited character creation system out there. I don't like to complain, but this system is just a load of garbage. A stupid idea and even worse executed.

This is absolutely bullsh*t! I managed to make myself from real life and I really like it. You just gotta adjust some stuff but I think this system is fantastic. Conservative whiners. 6KCi43Y.jpg

I launched GTAO a few minutes ago then quickly returned to single player.

Mom's Mother

Mom's Father

Mom's Resemblance

Dad's Mother

Dad's Father

Dad's Resemblance

Your Gender

Your Resemblance.

Bleh, too complicated. My brain exploded.

EDIT: I tried again and found a random character that I liked, I started adjusting his lifestyle settings and OMG, YOUR LIFESTYLE CHOICE AFFECT YOUR CLOTHING? :sui:

Only your starter clothing you can change it after

Yeah, I just decided to give it another go, it's not nearly as bad as people are making it sound imo. More freedom is always nice but if you read up on what character creation was gonna be I don't see why it's suddenly so bad now. It is what they said it was...choose your grandparents, choose your parents and you have a gene slider. That's what I read before launch and that's what it is, and that's much better than GTA IV's 4 or 5 character models.

The system was an interesting idea, and I believe it could have been pulled off really well, but it was just executed very poorly I feel.

Atrocious. I was able to make it to the char customization screen earlier today (as far as I got, no surprise). Just... wowzers. Complete sh*t. I have absolutely zero good things to say about it. Game companies these days skimp on the most ideal things, I swear!

For a 47" HD TV & 20/20 all around good eyesight, I had a semi-difficult time distinguishing wtf my gparents looked like. I had to look down on the parents to even get an idea. Even then, the options were few and far between (and sh*t).

It was a pain in the ass getting a 'normal' white male - they were black/hispanic most of the time. Not much freedom to choose starting outfits. The meter options in which you invest hours into is totally lame. I took points from sleep (really, sleep? dafuq?) to put into more worthy meters like crime, and my dude looked like a burnt out meth head. Could be cool for some, but totally not what I was going for.

Oh I could choose my hair and beard and choose a hair color (not that there were many of any of those). I hope in-game online has tons more choices and possibly diff colors like green or something just for variety or role playing.

Let players choose. How hard is that? How hard? Game really is starting to feel like a tooooon of hype and I totally got sucked in. Not giving up just yet though. Maybe the gameplay itself will blow me away; we'll see I guess.

What about clothing, nobody has touched on the subject. Can you buy clothing in variety and whatnot more-so than SP? If so then it can make up for a tiny bit of this horrid creator. Even if I could make my face exactly the way I wanted, but had to stick with LA-style clothes I'd be screwed even then

More so then sp? yes, but a vast majority of the clothing is just re-skins. bad ones at that.

I agree with not being able to see the Grandparents, I may not have the biggest tv, but it is decent enough of a size that I should be able to make it out, but can't see a thing =/

Also maybe you character looked like a burned out meth head because they were...you know...a burned out meth head, if you took all the hours from sleep and put them in crime what exactly did you expect :p

Was looking forward to designing my avatar. Was shocked at how terrible and underwhelming the process was.

ALL I f*ckING CARE IS BEING ASIAN

ADD A RACE FEATURE HOLY sh*t

I hope you don't mistake this for racism but I'm pretty high and I read from the bottom, thought you meant a race feature as in racing (I completely forgot what thread I was in). Then I read that all you care about is being Asian, and I thought "I'm gonna make this guy so happy when I tell him there's an Asian guy that hosts street races in single player".

Anyway, I did see a couple of grandparent options that give you Asian features, but you'd probably end up looking like every other Asian playing online. Don't know what your ancestry his, but he looked kinda South East Asian.

Well even though not being able to go online, I made some characters and even made a few decent ones.

I made one look like my friggin' maths teacher from 3 years ago. And I actually by accident could use Claude (once) as parent on the regular edition.

However, no matter what kinda woman I make, the Age isn't right. If I set it to 25 sometimes they still look like 45 (housewife with kids)
