You seriously expected their servers to handle 5+ MILLION people logging in at once? GTAF can't even handle a thousand without dying on us.

1) Billion copies? So they got like $60 billion from the game's sales?

2) Cool, cry more.

3) "Rockstar couldn't f*cking make it sure that millions of people can play at the same time! I am disappointed, R*!"

The Hylander

Personally I want to agree with you but 2 weeks in a way is not enough time to get servers for over 1billion people

It's frustratingly annoying sure..

But if you never want to buy another product from from Rockstar that's good for you i guess.

When the hell will kids understand that its not just stacking servers on top of eachother, there is no technology today that could handle THAT amount of pressure from connecting users, im sure even the ISP servers are completely toast.

Could they have done a better job? Sure.

Could they have gotten better hardware to cope with this amount of people? Hell no.

they didnt sell a billion copies, unless the copies were $1 each.

more servers is a terrible fix too. Day 1 is the bussiest day, so most likely to cause issues, if they buy all these extra servers you expect, then after a week or so they become totally redundant because the number of active players drops drastically.

find something else to do and keep an eye on the rockstar twitter and other peolpes posts to find out if its working rather than wasting your life trying to get on all day

This shouldn't even be an issue.. R* had more than enough time to prepare for this. They spent 5 years making the game + $265 mil & they can't even get the simplest things right. Oh & did I forget to mention the delay.. f*ck R* & all you sensitive GTA fan boys that defend them no matter what the circumstance.

The only thing they could've done differently is open it up by timezones, but even then, eventually problems would occur. Companies that sell way less have these same issues online, so surely a company that unexpectedly sells 1billion dollars worth of games in 2 days will have some serious issues with an online launch. Which is why they told you all to bare with them because they needed more servers days ago. Relax fellas, stay calm lol.

CoD sells 6 million copies in it's first 24 hours & the servers run absolutey fine. The fact that R* made us wait 2 extra weeks for the Online to launch & we can't even play it is stupid.

If you read some articles you should see that rockstar expected these kind of problems due to the fact they sold more copies the first 24 hours than they could dream of, they beat the previous record holder with 300+ million more copies sold.

I've worked with servers and databases and most of the time when overload occurs it's not that easy to just go down to the store and pick up a new one... I don't know if rockstar put together their servers by themself or buy them from companies like Dell (which is a huge provider when it comes to servers). Either way 2 weeks to set up thousands of servers on various locations around the globe is simply quite hard of a task.

They probably had to rent new server halls, make deals with ISPs and lots of various logistic problems on top of the new hardware and setting those up.

If they didn't want people to play online they wouldn't of introduced it and believe it or not, they're losing money every second due to no microtransactions being done.

Releasing an MMO is overall a nightmare and all companies struggle the first few days or so when going from beta to release because it's hard to anticipate the work load when dealing with lots of servers and huge amount of people trying to access them at the same time, you've bound to come across problems.

I'm not defending rockstar, I think the information flow could of been better however It's kind of hard to blame them for not having enough servers when this game broke all sort of previous records.

A lot of the people here forget this game was up for Pre-Order last Novemeber to release in the Spring of 2013. Rockstar delayed it to 3 days before the start of Fall. They then delay the single most important feature, ONLINE, for two more weeks. It's funny how anyone justifies this as if Pre-Orders started a couple of months ago, as if Rockstar didn't have 5-6 extra months from the original release time-frame, with another two weeks added right after. If this was any other company they'd be shutting down tomorrow, but because it's Rockstar you all want to defend and ride them.

It wouldn't be as bad if they released it in different timezones. In pissed off because I waited two weeks to play online and it's finally here, and I can't even play. I would have rather waited for my timezone to get Gta:O even if it was at 10pm at night! At least it wouldn't be half as bad as it is now! 5yrs and they can't do one simple thing.

selling $360 worth of a game with significantly smaller maps with less interactive features is nothing compared to selling nearly $2billion worth of a game with the largest city wide map and multiple interactive features lol. Again, why are people surprised when R* said the servers WILL be an issue...? As soon as they made the announcement, I said "okay cool, good to know now" even though I figured it would be an issue as soon as I heard how much they sold. I'm talking to other adults I know and we all pretty much knew it would be ridiculous the first day or so to play online. It should not be a surprise to anyone really that's an adult at least, but I know I'm talking to plenty of kids on here.

Rockstar should hire you since you know everything about servers. What would be the firat thing you do to ensure this problem doesn't happen. As someone who works with this sh*t, its not as easy as you would thibk, technologybjust isnt there yet.

Also threw in the fact that CoD resolves around online gaming and they've been on it for quite some time. When releasing a new game they already have all the servers, they just have to put on the new game, maybe do some small expanding and so on. They don't really have to start from scratch.

You obviously don't get the point, the amount of time they had to get this particular issue sorted out was easily over half a year. Once they saw Pre-Order numbers leading up to Spring, the original release time-frame, they could've easily anticipated what they had on their hands. They didn't just wake up 3 days after the game release to come to the realization they sold over $1 billion worth of games. Rockstar produces the game, they know how many units they're pushing to a store. If they couldn't handle the capacity, they shouldn't have pushed out as many units as they have.

While I share the same sentiment as TC to a lesser extent (I'm going to be really skeptical about their products in the future due to their focus on online instead of single player), I don't get the complaints about not being able to log on. You guys will surely get your chance eventually, all you really need to do is have patience.

Out of all the complaints I've seen for the game, this seems like the most immature one.
