Downloaded the game update and tried to access online from pause menu. Got "Your gamer profile does not have the correct permissions to access GTA online"

Currently have Xbox Live free Silver membership. Is gold membership necessary to play the game?

If I wanted sarcasm, I'd talk to my 6 year old nephew.

 

These are the kinds of attitudes why I don't care to play online multiplayer. Yes I'm a PC gamer. No I don't like gaming on consoles.--and especially multiplayer.

 

I've NEVER had the need to play any GTA games online until V---where R* decided to shaft single players without KY Jelly for online. So I'm completely illiterate as to how the online features work with V.

 

Consequently, I have no [email protected] clue if my game was setup right to access online--because I've never had the need to do so until now.

 

But ironically thanks for all the wonderful feedback! [/sarcam]

Yeah, Xbox you paying a subcription to essentially play GTA online.

 

Welcome to the wonderful world of Microsoft it's a 'free' game mode though included with GTA V.

nope its free. but you need to throw money at the screen whenever you buy weapons or clothes.

I haven't had to change my silver membership when IV multi came out, so I assumed V would be just as accessible from the in game phone.

 

Looks like my greatest fears are now being realized and R* has apparently decided to go the way of the EA Borg. I'm now slowly realizing what fun micro transactions will end up being for gaming online in the future >,<

i dont have gold membership yet im able to play online(my cousin has gold and his acount is on our xbox, but i know his gold doesnt go to ours)

Why to be a bunch of assholes when the OP asked a simple question. #1 reason I can't stand online gaming. Bunch of nerds who spend way too much time in front the tv. So they believe everyone does the same.

None of the 360s games (with the exception of a couple MMOs) can be played without a gold membership. So yes, you need gold for GTA Online.
