Well done R* you have really surpassed yourself this time! Normally I am not one to moan but after waiting 5 years since GTAIV and completing GTAV story I was looking forward to playing on line today as I had some free time. Also, just because I am a new member/don’t post a lot doesn’t mean my opinions are worth any less.

 

So, I load up GTAV 3 hours ago and get on OK, create character (stupid feature so just done a random) and manage to watch intro and get dropped off in car. It then says “go to race trigger” Erm, no trigger, nothing on phone, start button doesn’t work for map (XBOX 360 by the way) so drive around a bit and NOTHING to do, no blips or waypoints or

anything.

 

OK, a glitch maybe, so I turn off, reboot, oad up a further 4 times and still nothing on line to do i.e. blips, waypoints etc and also asking me to create a character again as file is corrupt (this then happened a further 2 times)

I leave it for 30 mins, go in again, create character AGAIN and this time I don’t even get in and am kicked due to R* servers being unavailable. I am now p****d off and decide enough is enough and will try later.

 

I understand it is launch day, I understand that millions of people are trying to play, I understand games have glitches at launch that need patches and fixes but R* have NO EXCUSE - they made $1bns at launch and had time to prepare for this knowing full well demand would be astronomical - I am not impressed one bit to be honest.

 

So, the issues:

 

Lagging, poor, distorted graphics on intro scene

 

Corrupt files non stop

 

Unable to trigger game play on line

Constantly being kicked out of the game

 

…List is endless to be honest

 

Why oh why like GTAIV could we not go in and simply join races, heists, triathlons, death matches etc - were/are R* trying to be too clever? If so, they have failed I am afraid. I guess I like others will be waiting days or weeks to get playing on line as today it has simply not worked at all and from a name like R* it is a very poor showing.

 

I guess many of you have the same issues - do R* know? Have they responded to concerns and faults?

I hear ya, but when it says about the race trigger, it's automatic. your character goes to the blue maker and a black car pulls up. Then it searches for players. it's done that for me all the time, Problem is though, it can never find the Job/Activity.

Don't be a dick because people are annoyed they're not able to use a feature they paid money for. This is something that was predictable and possible. I work in networking, it's not by a long shot an unachievable feat. The reason we're having this problem is because R* underestimated how many people would get the game on launch week (which is baffling) and have had to spent the last few days desperately buying and adding new servers to their cloud. We're essentially paying for R* going in at the lowest end of the spectrum of server demand, then rushing to try and recover when they inevitably can't handle the traffic. If R* had faith that this would be a record-setting release and took a slight risk in adding enough server power to deal with that kind of demand, then we wouldn't have this issue, at least not to the point that people like myself have only seen a black screen for 15 minutes at a time as their experience of GTAO.

 

The decision was to either go towards the lower end of the scale for servers, low financial risk, high consumer risk....or put enough to deal with the highest estimated demand, high financial risk, low consumer risk.

 

They went with the latter. Understandable, but that doesn't mean that they're not open to backlash from consumers. They are well within their rights to be pissed off.

That $1bil figure is thrown around a lot, but I'd just like to point out that they only made $1bil in retail sales. Retail sales =/= profit. They don't make $60 off of each copy. That's the retail price. They make their money by selling it to retailers, and they definitely don't sell it to retailers at $60 a copy. You also have to take into account all of the expenses (the cost of making the game itself, then physically making the disks, cases, shipping costs, advertising costs, ect.). While it's entirely plausible, given how well the game is selling, that they'll make one billion in profit off of it, I doubt they have yet.

Perfect? No but this now is horrible, i expected lag and some bugs but not being able to play at all is extremely sad.

I would understand it for the first few hours but now we're half a day further and I heard NOTHING from rockstar itself, only people telling other people to stop complaining.

I do more than you I go to college for computer engineering and work a part time job while I'm sure your at YOUR parents house in the basement doing not a damn thing but sitting hear complaining to complainers, but I digress the problem I have with this situation and the one thing that gets on my nerves is false advertising. And that is what I feel like I got. The singleplayer was ok and the multiplayer is unplayable. At the very least I was hoping to create a character but I can't even do that. But f*ck it there will always be dumb people like you who know everything when it comes to defending your boyfriend rockstar and I'm fine with that go about it. Just saying as of now the game sucks and they have had more than enough time to try and come up with a solution.

Urgh, why can't people simply express a negative opinion without the fanboys coming out in force? People have every right to be annoyed, every network-required element of the game has been unusable or highly unresponsive since launch. The servers couldn't even cope with the iFruit app. I've played a fair few online games on launch, and never experienced anything close to this. FIFA14 launched this week, and that has been seamless online. Why? Because like them or hate them, EA invest in their network.

 

I love GTAV, but if FIFA14 was anything close to this, ESPECIALLY after giving themselves a 2 week grace before release their online content, that would be unacceptable. You can sit and fanboy yourself as far up the proverbial arsehole all you wish, but responding to complaints with, basically, "u mad bro, get a life" is childish and moronic. You could argue that someone that feels the need to defend a company because they like their games, blinded by whether they are actually doing a good job or not, needs to severely "get a life".
