I've tried countless times to get onto GTA:O, the furthest i've gotten is the introductory cutscene and i cant do the first mission, i saw people had this issue but there seems to be people playing right now, so, are the servers actually starting to function?

Nope. Just woke up and did my download of the file. Came back into the game and switched to my online character via the wheel and it just froze on a black screen. So I said f*ck it, I'm going to smoke.

You need to hit the pause menu and go to the Online tab and select solo or invite only session, so far Im unable to get into the servers with other players

Well it works, kinda..

 

The problem for me is that i can't start that first race, there is no race trigger o.O

I can free roam and rob stores with my crew, doing the missions is glitched. As soon as the mission starts it will also end picking a random team the winner without them doing anything.

I got on right when it released on xbox and played for the last 4 hours. I think it stopped working, I finally got a message the servers were down and I didn't even retry after that.
