I considered going to work late this morning (I make my own schedule) and trying to get a few hours in. Then I decided, f*ck it, not worth a couple hours with work looming and I imagine there will be issues like server stability and various bugs to work out.

 

Instead I decided to drop in here and watch the GTA Online section of the forum implode. I am quite literally laughing out loud.

 

it is quite amusing, especially when Rockstar basically delayed the online with the express purpose of letting people know a sh*tstorm was brewing:

Well. They actually did delay the game. They also did buy more servers. You can't anticipate how a server is going to handle all these people. Especially when it's being overloaded.

Still happens to all open world games. FFXIV is an MMO just came out It sold more than 1 million pre orders just on ps3 alone and it's an ps3 game you cross platform play with PC players. The servers were so clogged up they had retailers stop selling copies of the game and took it off psn/steam/digital download. Now it's fine though it's just a normal process that happens in all games like this every time. Like every single time.

Rockstar are a multi million pound company - it's their job to make the product work. We're the consumer, we don't care how hard it is.

Rockstar promised an online - they hyped it up to be amazing, with the capabilities to play with friends.

 

So far it hasn't been amazing, nor have I been able to play with friends. It is up to Rockstar to fill in their end of the deal, we paid £40 for the game, at the moment they owe us.

 

They have had years to run beta sessions and test everything, quite frankly the deal at the moment just isn't good enough for a multi million pound company.

This is just the same as any other online game's launch with high demand. Someone else cited WoW and I agree, I've remember the first week or two of WoW and other major MMO releases. I'm reminded of the scene from Jurassic Park where John Hammond rambles on about amusement parks having issues when they open every time one of these scenarios occurs lol.

 

Edit: I'm in Information Technology and Security so I understand the plight more than the average consumer who wants everything to work perfectly day one. Networks still aren't perfect. There's no omnipotent, errorless networking god out there that makes sure things work perfectly all the time. Things are controlled by other human beings and there are many factors that go into these sorts of things. Pure logic would tell the uneducated that millions of people are trying to connect to one service at one time, it's obviously not going to be smooth on the first day.

well guys what the f*ck you think.. If you have any knowledge about servers and networks you may know that no f*cking datacenter can hold such pressure.. WORLDWIDE people keep trying to connect, over and over again.. servers are out - that is NO wonder. Give it a freaking day or two and it will be all perfect.

Thats what usually happens on big launches.

 

Yeah i agree R* f*cked up with that singleplayer glicht but nobody is perfect. They made the best game on 360/3 gen consoles, what just answers the question why there are problems and why it is buggy.
