I'm still unable to connect at all, that's a whole day it's been saying the cloud is down. But I have plenty of fun in single player so hey ho.

You know what's the thing that kinda pisses ME off?

 

They patched up the Violent Duct mission that people played alot for quick money. Their update reduced the payoff.

 

Sure, maybe it was overpowered, but they really had something more important to fix than that...

 

That is what makes them seem moneyhungry the most, as they're trying to prevent farming.. Probably because they want people to buy their gta dollars

They might also want to prevent people from breaking the money balance in the game. What's the point of playing online to raise money if you've unlocked everything because you used a cheap trick? People always find an exploit and break great games because they are ignorant. I agree with their decision in patching that up.

They patched it on ps3. You are no longer able to replay mission that you successfully pass. The REPLAY button is disabled after you pass the job.

My character only ever went missing once (though that was my original, who I created when the servers were down so I assume that the cloud couldn't save it in the first place).

Then again I don't try very often as things seem to get messed up for people who check on it often.

 

IMO, all the characters are still here, just the cloud is all screwed up.

DO NOT create a new character (in any slot really) as it seems to mess up your cloud!

 

I think the cloud is overwriting your old save with the new save that you have say an empty slot one and a new slot two rather than just saving slot two! I think this may be why characters go missing, because it overwrites your old slot with a new empty one because it can't find one for you this time but you save to the cloud.

I've been playing on ps3 all day long, and the cloud and servers seem great. Progress has been saving. Not many bugs. I wonder why it keeps telling you the cloud is down.

My character wasn't there when I went to play yesterday, nor today. Made a character on slot 2 just to make sure online was working (it was, just my 1st character on slot 1 is gone). NO mention of cloud whatsoever.

My bank was empty yesterday, but refilled today, so I had some hope, but nope.

Still. Fingers crossed until I get a message/article from Rockstar explaining things.

My old character gone. My new character in second slot has been perfect all day, except his picture isnt on Social. GTAO has been fine for me all day and evening,

I have no clue, but a friend of mines been on all day also. I generally just stick to private games with friends since no matter what you put in the game, it's going to be filled with young whipper snappers that just want to kill you for the fun. It's a real shame because it's one of the best games I've ever played.

So has anyone who's lost a character gotten it back (and I mean people who lost it since the update, I know they were disappearing and reappearing during launch week)? I'm insanely frustrated by Rockstar's lack of communication with the community on these issues. I'd like them to definitively say either A) Our sh*t is gone, sorry B) Our sh*t is recoverable or C) We have no f*cking idea, but here's what you can/can't do.

 

I want to play and I'd be fine making a temp character, but not if it's going to override any chance of having my character restored. 2 days with no new info is depressing.

Sounds like an overly sensitive mic, I've been in a few games where there's just constant dead air sound. I'd ask the other people in your game if they hear something like that. This happens a lot with the super ultra gaming headsets from what I've heard.

Same thing money shows but ask to create new character ..... .Thought the newest patch would fix just about all MAJOR problems...guess not. Sorry btw, meant to edit not quote and make a double post. All I know is when I was excited to play Sunday morning I looked like this lol

Can I just ask if all the people who are losing their characters are losing them after their first save? Is it just something that's happening because the cloud was down when you first saved so you had nothing to come back to, or is it something else? I just want to know if my character's safe. I've played him about three times now and apart from a glitch where his appearance completely changed (luckily not to anything to hideous) I've had no problems. As long as I save when the cloud is up will he be safe... or do you think there is still a risk that he'll dissapear?

When online on my xbox i cannot seem to see any shops apart from ammunation on the map. Is this an issue for everyone?

Updated 10/8/13: If you have previously created a character but see an empty character selection screen when entering GTA Online, please back out to GTAV Story Mode and try re-entering GTA Online through the pause menu (repeat or wait until Rockstar cloud servers are back up). Do not create a new character in the empty slot where your character should be.

Whenever games come out, there is going to be issues. R* mentioned that before the release. They knew it was going to be chaotic, maybe not to this extent, but it happened. They are working to get most of the major issues resolved in an effective manner.

 

I'm a casual gamer that works in the IT field. There are a million things that can be tested before a big platform goes live and R* ironed out many of these before the official release. Although, when you break records in sales and then have a successful marketing team to promote an Online experience, then get hammered by Millions of people connecting in a short amount of time, things will go wrong.

 

There is no better problem finder than the general public. We love to find things that are wrong with everything, and when you have a few million people doing it, they tend to find them faster than the few...hundredish... that were trying to find them prior to the release.

 

The main thing is... R* has done such a good job in quality of gaming experiences in the past, and this launch has been rough to say the least. They will get it straight, and it will take time. We'll get the additional content and fun experience we want from the missions later as they get through the technical overload/difficulties that have been hit with over the last week.

 

My best advice to all... is play the game like my 12 yr old son. Him and his buddies have been flying helios, crashing cars, having boxing matches on the beaches, and getting in cross-city battles with random people from all over the world and having a blast doing it.

 

Enjoy the game now... work for levels and perks later. Consider this time of uncertainty as a sandbox time to find the fun ways to do things, and then do things the "right" way later on a permanent character when you have learned and aren't a noob. This is the time to be a noob and have fun... because the character may not be there the next time you log in.

 

Once things are stable... then take 4 hours to create a character and do the missions the right way and don't screw up as much.

Very good post, I'm involved with IT and a lot of testing as well, although I think they released a product that wasn't ready for release yet I really disagree with all those whining posts here. Enjoy the game for now is the main thing, there will always be teething issues.
