I believe cloud is down, at least for me it is. Downloaded patch this morning, played online flawlessly for a few hours. Logged out, and returned a couple hours later to find my character missing. Also missing in the character wheel. Posted this issue on R* support page, some dude named Brad emailed me back confirming that it is most likely the cloud being down. Sucks.

That is most likely because cloud servers being down (Considering people are complaining about them at this very moment)

So people have trouble getting in, or can't reach their character at this moment.

I can't even enter GTA online at all because my PS3 freezes when i try. Hope this helped.

About 10 minutes ago the game failed to load a shooting range mission. I quit game and reloaded to find my character deleted.

don't panic it's not actually "Deleted" let me try to explain really short for people who get confused.

Your character is saved on the "cloud servers" of rockstar, which are servers where data like your character data is stored, if the server is down, or really slow. You might have trouble "reaching" your character because you can't connect to the cloud servers. no panic, dont make a new character because that might overwrite yours. just try again later.

On PS3- since I heard about the update I decided to try it out.

 

I got on faster, still lost my character so I created a new one, lots of people were online in the tutorial but I raced Lamar one on one. When I had to buy some clothes, I was online with a lot of other people. However, there was a lot of glitching I've never seen before. flashing NPCs and players. I tried to steal a car and the animation to throw the npc out didn't work. Anyway, I finished the last tutorial and went into free roam. saved my character and left (because the room was full of a**holes killing each other). I had trouble switching rooms but finally got into a few okay and played the game for a while.

 

I then joined a deathmatch and it turned out to be the tutorial deathmatch. I figured I would stay and help out. When the deathmatch was over I tried to go on to another mission instead of free roam but it didn't work and I ran into several issues trying to get back into the room. I finally get back into the room and Lamar calls to give me the same Rob a store mission that was in the tutorial. It seems like accepting the tutorial deathmatch knocked me back into the tutorial. The stores were gone and it was limited.

 

I lost my car with the free customizations on it. Tracking and everything is gone so basically I really was knocked back into the tutorial mode but I also got the missions to repo cars so it's a strange limbo right now. I did rob the store, I gladly did not lose any of my money so the car is the only thing I have lost so far. Later tonight I'll get on...if I can and hunt for a new main car. Sadly I don't think I'll get any free customs again. If I lose this character I won't be surprised nor mad cause I'm not really doing much with her but testing this update.

i was able to really experience the game the first time today. so happy in the first place. but then in the evening my character got deleted. i am about to quit this sh*t until it works properly. not hating rockstar but that was frustating as f*ck.

For all those people that keep saying that there person was deleted you NEED to read this.

Your persons isnt being deleted. They is being saved somewhere to the rockstar's internal data server. When they turn off their server it gives the appearance that the peoples that you made was deleted but they wasn't. So when they turn it back on your guy will maybe come back and you will have all your stuff again! And if sometimes it seems like your guy got erased but you still had all your moneys its because rockstar turned it off and then turned it back on really quick by accident and you just happened to turn off your system at the exact same time. So don't worry about anything, I know a lot about computer mainframes and all that kind of stuff. This is actually a VERY common problem and all the people complaining about it must have never used a computer before.

Thanks. I clicked on the blank character to confirm my character wasn't simply hidden, and backed out before I created a new one. I wonder if this will overwrite my old character.

Xbox : I got in.alert cloud is off / create a temp char that won't be saved, skiped tutorial and cutscene. Quick loading ( like when switching char in SP, about 5 secs ) Spawned in the air, 10 feet above the ground. Free roam. No possible mode online to join. No rubs to do. But 16 people online roaming killing each other and dealing with the cops.

If you want to get a point across, don't make the mistakes that this person made:

 

A) Don't type it all out in caps. You appear childish. (Wild guess... 14ish... 15ish??? And I'm not blasting on teenagers who care, because there are smart teenagers. But this one... wow )

B) If you aren't being childish and are trying to get your point across (while using all caps), please at least spell things correctly. I understand that some might not know the proper use of a semicolon or even a comma. But at least try!

C) If you do anything remotely like this poster has done, then never say "In my opinion..." because it does not matter! You ruined it straight from the get-go.

 

Believe it or not, "rosy", I am not trying to dig at you. But I think it is a shame that the uneducated spend their time playing games when they should clearly be studying up their English.

Friend of mine did the tut. Mission that way and restarted the game to go into avreak lobby with his character.

I too am in the same boat as you. Been trying every fix and possible way to get online since release to no avail.

ONCE it allowed me to join in with a temp character but was too excited when I finally connected, back out to try my character to hang out in the parking lot again.

can I get a link to where R* states this is indeed what the problem is? because unless we got something like that, all you just said is pure conjecture based on logic.

 

For all we know, some characters come back, while others get corrupted, and all that is left are stats/etc.

 

now, judging by the social club stats page, it retained my wins in golf/tennis, and my banked/earned/spent cash, but everything else is "0", which leads me to hope my character is still swimming through the void of wires, harddrives and signals we call the internet, unable to contact me directly, but able to cry out just loud enough to say "I'M STILL HERE!".

 

That said, stop assuming R* has their s**t together, and getting other peoples hopes up. Truth is, we just don't know.

It would be good if that were that case but the autosaving of the cloud is still f*cked. Yes literally just now it did reload my character after it went down BUT with half my money and 2 ranks lower. Basically the work 5 or so hours of gaming i did the cloud was not autosaving my stats as they updated. Glad its not completey back to square one like has happened to a friend of mine but still very annoyed.

Found a problem, that if you fail to have anyone join a mission you host and you decide to leave that mission, the game will freeze up. This is the first time it has happened.
